Babri Masjid demolition anniversary nears, security beefed up

Hyderabad, December 4: With December 6, the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition looming near, tight security arrangements are being put in place in the city. City police commissioner A K Khan told this.

He visited old city here on Friday and spoke to media.

City police commissioner told that prohibitory orders would be imposed in the city from December 5 to 7 and any organization would neither be allowed to conduct public meeting, rally and speeches nor permitted to celebrate joyfulness or grief.

Iraqi bombs kill 7 Iranian pilgrims

Baghdad, December 04: Several people, including seven Iranians pilgrims, have been killed and dozens more injured in bomb attacks across Baghdad, Iraqi security officials say.

The first incident occurred in the Kadhimiya district of Baghdad on Saturday when a car bomb and other explosives targeted Iranian pilgrims. The attack claimed lives of five people and left at least 18 others wounded, Reuters quoted Iraqi security sources as saying.

Narendra Modi arrives in Hyderabad on a two day visit

Islamabad, December 04: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari had dismissed a suggestion by then US Ambassador Anne Patterson that Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud was responsible for Benazir Bhutto’s death, saying he was “just a pawn” in the process, according to a WikiLeaks expose.

Zardari said he was not very much interested in who the sniper was or exactly how Benazir was killed. This was not as important as finding out who financed the killing, and who were the “hands behind” it.

Germans more negative towards Muslims than others

Berlin, December 04: Only about one third of Germans think positively of their Muslim neighbours, a much lower proportion than in other western European countries, according to a new poll.

In contrast, 62 percent of Dutch and 56 percent of French people responding to the TNS Emnid survey indicated they had positive attitudes towards Muslims.

Detlef Pollack, a Muenster University sociologist who led the study, attributed Germans’ views to their lack of contact with Muslims compared to people in other nations surveyed.

The first surgery at the Presbyterian Hospital extracted the clot and corrected the disc. Days later, Saudi officials said Abdullah was walking again and that the operation had been successful.

US adds less jobs in a sluggish economy

Washington, December 04: A sluggish US economy added just 39,000 jobs in November while the unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent, tempering hopes of a quick recovery from its worse slowdown in decades.

The numbers marked a major slowdown from October, when US employers added an upwardly revised 172,000 jobs, the Labour Department job report released Friday said.

CNNMoney.com said November’s numbers fell short of the 150,000 gain that economists surveyed by it were expecting.

Pakistan cleric offers reward to kill Christian woman

Islamabad, December 04: A cleric in Pakistan has offered a reward of Rs.500,000 to anyone who kills a Christian woman sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet Mohammed.

“I will give Rs.500,000 to a person who will kill Aasia,” said Maulana Yousaf Qureshi, the prayer leader of the historic Mohabbat Khan Masjid in Peshawar.

He made the remarks during a rally of the Jamaat-e-Islami party Friday to protest against calls for amendments in the controversial blasphemy law and Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer’s efforts to have the woman pardoned, reports Daily Times.
