BJP launches protest against Omar for accession remark

Srinagar, November 02: The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) here Tuesday called for a ‘sustained’ agitation against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his ‘uncalled for’ remarks on the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India.

The party has called for ‘Jammu bandh’ or shutdown Nov 8, when the seat of the state government shifts to winter capital Jammu. It has planned a calendar of protests against the chief minister.

270 Mandals Hit In Rain Havoc In Coastal Region

Hyderabad, November 02: The toll in the torrential rains in the coastal Andhra region has risen to 16 and standing crop in 99,730 hectare was damaged in seven districts.

Disclosing this to mediapersons in the Secretariat on Tuesday, the Disaster Management Commissioner, Mr T Radha, said that the depression over Bay of Bengal caused heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coastal districts. The rains left a trail of destruction in 270 mandals, including 53 mandals in East Godavari, 43 in Visakhapatnam, 45 in West Godavari, 20 in Nellore, 39 in Krishna and 27 mandals in Vizianagaram district.

Security guard allegedly commits suicide

Hyderabad, November 02: A security guard is suspected to have committed suicide by hanging himself. It is said that Sailu 45 of Shahmeerpet was a watchman at Patel Market.

Besides being a watchman he used to work as a plumber in a building that is under construction. According to police sources Sailu was under stress due to family troubles and often seemed to be mentally worried during work. Owing to which it is believed that he might have hanged himself dejected with the family troubles.

Dodging scams, Congress targets RSS

New Delhi, November 02: Attempting to shift focus from the slew of scandals ailing the party, the Congress on Tuesday, Nov 2 accused the RSS and its allies of indulging in terror activities.

“Recent revelations through detailed investigations have exposed the true character of the RSS and its sister organisations. The investigations indicate the involvement of its members in terrorist activities,” Pranab Mukherjee said while addressing the AICC meet at the Talkatora Stadium.

The party meet came on the occasion of the party’s 125th anniversary.

Additional user charges from Nov. 8 at Shamsabad airport

Hyderabad, November 02: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport will now collect the additional user charges from passengers from November 8 and not November 1 as decided earlier.

It was stated in a press note by GHIAL that the user charges have been increased with Rs. 100 for domestic airlines and Rs. 875 for International airlines which will be imposed from November 8.

The amount will be collected at the airport from those passengers who have not been charged the same as a part of the ticket issued to them by the airlines or agents.

Iran, Saudi officials discuss ties

Riyadh, November 02: Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal says interaction between Tehran and Riyadh is vital in the face of developments in the region and the Muslim world.

The remarks were made during a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Middle East affairs Mohammad Reza Sheibani in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on Monday, IRNA reported.

Ayodhya verdict does not condone Babri demolition: Sonia

New Delhi, November 02: The Allahabad High Court’s verdict on the Ayodhya dispute did not condone the demolition of the Babri Masjid, Congress president Sondia Gandhi said Tuesday while asserting that the perpetrators must be “brought to justice”.

“The judgment in no way condones the demolition of the Babri Masjid,” Gandhi said at a meeting of the All India Congress Committee here Tuesday.

“It was shameful, criminal act. Perpetrators should be brought to justice,” she said.

New Delhi, November 02: Yash Raj Films (YRF) has described as untrue reports that southern superstar Rajnikanth might feature in a key role in action-adventure film Dhoom 3.

“An article in a trade publication suggests that Mr. Rajnikanth may be approached for a pivotal role in Dhoom 3. While Yash Raj Films has the utmost respect for the actor, the truth is that no such plans have been made,” Rafiq Gangjee, vice president (Marketing and Communications), YRF, said in a press statement.

“The script is still under finalisation and all casting will be done post that,” he added.

Girl poisoned to death for honour

Rayachoti, November 02: In what could be yet another case of honour killing in the state, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly poisoned to death by her father for her love affair with a youth. The girl’s body was found buried in a graveyard close to her residence in Rayachoti in Kadapa district on Monday.

Following a tip-off, the police rushed to the graveyard and exhumed the body. The victim was identified as Rupa, daughter of Sivarama Chari, 50, a head master in the zilla parishad high school in Devapatla village in Sandepalli mandal.

Mumbai, November 02: Govinda’s daughter Narmada Ahuja, whose debut film has been delayed, says the script has been finalised and the project will hit the production stage early next year.

“The status of that project is we have finalised the script. Everything is done and we are now working on it. Most probably the first schedule of the film will go on the floor in January or maximum February,” Narmada, 20, told IANS.

The daughter of Bollywood’s popular funny man Govinda, Narmada too will start her acting journey with a romantic comedy.

Lohan reconnects with old friends in rehab

London, November 02: Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan is trying to reconnect with her old friends from the rehabilitation centre.

The troubled actress, who is currently in a court-ordered rehabilitation stay at the Betty Ford Clinic in California until early January 2011, is said to be using her two-hour weekly internet usage time to reconnect with her friends, who tried to tell her about her problem with excessive drinking and drug taking.

“At the moment she is finding it tough being in rehab and she misses her friends and family,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying.

Dubai’s non-oil trade reaches $102 bn

Dubai, November 02: Dubai’s non-oil trade has reached 377 billion dirhams (about $102 billion) in the first eight months of this year, up 18 percent, compared to the figure in the same period last year.

Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Dubai Customs Director General, said the strategic location as well as flexible and competitive set of legislations contributed to the rise in the trade.

He said Dubai’s direct exports scored the highest growth rate in the past five years, exceeding up to 44 billion dirhams by August 2010 with a growth rate of 39 percent.

Pak-Afghan trade deal to be challenged in court

Islamabad, November 02: The government of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province will challenge in court a deal on the transit of goods between Afghanistan and Pakistan, saying it will only benefit India and Afghanistan.

The Chamber of Commerce and Trade president, Usman Bashir Bilor, said the agreement is against the interest of Pakistan and would only benefit India and Afghanistan, the Online news agency reported Monday.
