Hyderabad, November 03: The Telugu Shakti has demanded the Governor Mr E.S.L Narasimhan to immediately dismiss the government headed by Mr K Rosaiah, as it has failed to control the Telangana protagonists from indulging in unruly actions during the A P Formation day celebrations.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, the Telugu Shakti president, Mr B.V. Ram said that there was no objection for some people demanding separation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.

Soharabuddin Case: Shah Submits Passport in Court

Ahmedabad, November 03: Former Gujarat minister Amit Shah, accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, on Tuesday submitted his passport in the special CBI court here and said he would visit religious places while being out of the state.

His lawyer Mitesh Amin has informed the court of chief judicial magistrate, A Y Dave that his client would be available at Gujarat Bhavan in New Delhi, if needed.

While Shah has been asked to remain out of Gujarat by the Supreme court, he would be visiting various religious places across the country, he told the court.

Rosaiah to meet Ramesh to discuss Andhra dam project

New Delhi, November 03: Andra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who is in New Delhi to attend the AICC meeting, is expected to meet Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh on the 11,000 crore rupee-Polavaram dam project.

The environment ministry has sent a notice to the Andhra Pradesh government asking it to explain in 10 days why the clearance for the project should not be withdrawn since the conditions on which it was granted had been violated.

Auto driver set ablaze traffic cop

Mumbai, November 03: A traffic police constable, who was set on fire by an enraged auto rickshaw driver after the policeman booked him for violating traffic rules, died in the wee hours Wednesday.

Anil Aitodekar, the traffic constable, had taken action against the 22-year-old auto rickshaw driver Mahendra Kevat for not following traffic norms in Vasai in neighbouring Thane district.

Enraged over this, Kevat went to the constable later and poured kerosene and set him ablaze on the road.

Sensex recovers by 175 points in early trade

Mumbai, November 03: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today recovered by over 175 points in early trade on buying by funds in frontline shares amid strong global cues.

The 30-share index rose by 175.23 points, or 0.86 per cent to 20,520.92 points with all the sectoral indices trading in the positive territory. The index had lost about 10 points in the previous session after RBI hiked key short-term lending and borrowing rates by 25 basis points.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 48.95 points, or 0.80 per cent, to 6,167.95 points.

Train derails in Bihar, no casualties

Lakhisarai, November 03: Rail traffic was disrupted when a parcel van of Howrah-New Delhi Janata Express derailed near Bhalua station in Jhajha-Kiul section of East Central Railway, officials said here today.

The New Delhi-bound train, coming from Howrah, was about to pass Bhalua station between Jamui and Bananpur stations in the section, when it hit a buffalo, they said.

The parcel van, fourth from the engine, got derailed due to the impact, Chief Public Relations Officer (CRPO) of ECR Dilip Kumar told.

Madrid, November 03: A 10-year-old girl has given birth in southern Spain and authorities are evaluating whether to let her and her family retain custody of the baby, an official said. The baby was born last week in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, said Micaela Navarro, the Andalusia region’s social affairs minister.

Andhra faces cyclone threat, 20 killed in rains

Hyderabad, November 03: Andhra Pradesh is facing the threat of a cyclonic storm while heavy rains in the coastal region have claimed 20 lives and damaged crops in over 100,000 hectares, officials said Tuesday.

Nearly 400,000 people were affected, dozens of villages and residential areas in several towns remained inundated as rains under the influence of a trough of low pressure over Bay of Bengal and vigorous northeast monsoon caused havoc in north and south coastal districts.

Rome, November 04: Italians spent 400 million euros on flowers to place on the graves of family and friends Tuesday, All Souls Day, or Day of the Dead, according to a report by Coldiretti, an Italian agriculture trade group.

People from the overwhelmingly Catholic country will mostly pay between 1.5 euros and 15 euros for flowers to honour their loved ones, the report said.

The chrysanthemum is the preferred flower for the Catholic holiday, while daisies are also common.

100 people dead in Baghdad explosions

Baghdad, November 03: More than 100 people were killed and at least 200 injured in a series of car bombings, suicide bombings and explosions from improvised devices that rocked the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Tuesday evening, security sources and witnesses said.

The blasts — 21 in all — targeted cafes, restaurants and popular markets. Eleven of them were car bombs and attacks by suicide bombers, witnesses told.

Police rushed to close all roads leading to the sites of the explosions as the sound of ambulances wailed throughout the city.

Indo-American Nikki Haley will be South Carolina governor

Washington, November 03: Republican Nikki Haley, daughter of Sikh immigrant parents from Amritsar, will be the new governor of South Carolina state after she defeated her Democratic rival Vincent Sheheen in a close race.

The results in Tuesday’s election show Haley with 51 percent of the votes to Sheheen’s 47 percent with 75 percent of precincts reporting.

She’ll be the first woman chief executive of the state and America’s second Indian-American governor after Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, also a Republican, who became the first with his election three years ago.

New eruption at Indonesian volcano

Mount Merapi, November 03: Indonesia’s most dangerous volcano is once again sending searing gas clouds and burning rocks down its scorched flanks.

No casualties were reported in Mount Merapi’s latest blasts on Wednesday, which came as Indonesia struggled to respond to an earthquake-generated tsunami that devastated a remote chain of islands last week.

Thousands of people living along Merapi’s slopes have been evacuated to government-run camps well away from the base.
