Monument for Al Qaeda victims to be built in Iraq

Baghdad, November 28: A council in an Iraqi province has proposed the creation of a museum and setting up of a monument to victims of Al Qaeda in a building that was used as a prison for people kidnapped by the terrorist outfit, an official said.

Though the idea for the museum came from the owner of the building, whose family left the house and moved to Jordan after the war in Iraq in 2003, a provincial administration official of Diyala province said copies of the victims’ documents and instruments used by Al Qaeda to torture them will be given to the museum in Baqubah city.

Asaram Bapu’s Ashram demolished in gujarat‎

Gandhinagar, November 28: Revenue authorities Saturday demolished certain encroachments of the ashram of spiritual leader Asaram Bapu in Bhairavi village of Navsari district in south Gujarat.

The ashram was officially allocated 10 acres of land but it later encroached on another six acres of adjoining land and went on to construct a hall and a cowshed.

The villagers objected to this and drew the attention of the government which issued a notice to the ashram to vacate the land in question three years back.

Court orders FIR against Geelani, Arundhati and others

New Delhi, November 28: A local court ordered registration of an FIR against Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and writer-activist Arundhati Roy on charges of sedition for their alleged anti-India statements.

According to the complainant Roy, Geelani and others who participated in an anti-India campaign and a seminar in the heart of the National Capital on October 21, made objectionable remarks over Kashmir’s integration with India.

Mecca Masjid Blast: CBI Begins Quizzing Asimanand

Hyderabad, November 28: The CBI began interrogation of Swami Asimanand, an accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid bomb blast case, after taking him into their custody from Chanchalguda Central Prison here, official sources said.

After the XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court here had yesterday remanded Asimanand in seven days police custody. He was today handed over to the CBI officials for further interrogation, they said.

Man dies after trying to save dog

London, November 28: A man has died after jumping into an icy river in Lancashire in an attempt to save his pet springer spaniel.

The 49-year-old man plunged into the River Lune at Halton but got into difficulties himself and died in hospital after being rescued.

Coastguard rescue teams, an RAF rescue helicopter, an inshore lifeboat and hovercraft and fire service water rescue experts were all called out.

Liverpool Coastguards urged people to call in experts to rescue animals.
