Wikileaks’ Latest Includes 3,038 Cables from Delhi

New Delhi, November 29: Of the quarter million top secret US documents released by the whistleblower website Wikileaks, as many as 3,038 classified cables are from the US Embassy in New Delhi.

The documents are being published by several media outlets across the globe today, despite repeated insistence from the US that it may put at risk many lives.

Ahead of the release of these documents, the State Department had reached out to India warning it about the impending release.

Technical snag disrupts Metro line for an hour

New Delhi,November 29:For the second time in nine days, thousands of commuters were stranded Sunday evening as services on Delhi Metro’s Gurgaon-Jahangirpuri line were disrupted for an hour due to a technical snag, a Metro official said. The fault was rectified and the services resumed at 10.36 p.m.

A Metro official told IANS that the fault was due to a problem in the overhead electric wires near the Sultanpur Metro Station and the disruption occurred at around 9.30 p.m., the official said

KVP Ramachandra Rao resigns as advisor to AP Govt

Hyderabad, November 28: Rajya Sabha MP K V P Ramachandra Rao tonight stepped down as advisor to the Andhra Pradesh Government, minutes after new Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy sought the resignation of advisors appointed by late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Kiran Reddy announced in New Delhi that he would ask state Chief Secretary S V Prasad to seek the resignation of the advisors, whose role have been highly controversial in the last six years, at least two of them sent in their resignations.

1998 n-tests gave parity to Pak: Jaswant Singh

New Delhi, November 28: Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh, known for toeing a different line from that of his party on several issues, today said India’s nuclear tests in 1998 during the NDA regime gave a “parity” to Pakistan that it had always sought.

“The question that troubles us is that the 1998 nuclear tests by India conferred a kind of parity to Pakistan that it had always sought,” Singh said at a seminar at IIC here today.

Explaining further, the former External Affairs Minister said this parity had come about as the “deterrent quotient” had been altered after the nuclear tests.

Govt should resolve Parliament deadlock: Venkaiah

Hyderabad, November 28: Asserting that the BJP would continue to insist on a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum allocation issue, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said it is the government’s responsibility to resolve the stalemate in Parliament.

“The government is adamant on JPC. Adamance and arrogance are not helpful in democracy. Better the ruling party accept the JPC and end this stalemate. The ruling party alone will be held responsible for the present stalemate if it continues beyond tomorrow,” Naidu told reporters here.

Haryana to set up human rights commission

Chandigarh, November 28: Haryana will soon set up a human rights commission, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Sunday.

The process to constitute the commission was in progress, Hooda told reporters after a function at Jagadhri town, 120 km from here.

The Haryana government had earlier maintained that there was no need of a human rights commission in the state.

The chief minister had earlier maintained that enough mechanisms were available in the existing laws to deal with situations and that there was no need for a human rights commission.

Advani to visit Bhopal tomorrow

Bhopal, November 28: BJP veteran L K Advani is among a host of senior party leaders coming here tomorrow to take part in Karyakarta Gaurav Diwas Sammelan to mark Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s five years in office.

“Advani today gave his consent to the state unit to attend the function at the Jamboree maiden,” Madhya Pradesh BJP President Prabhat Jha told reporters.

Abducted person released by Maoists

Latehar (Jharkhand), November 28: Maoists today released a person, who was abducted for being involved in construction of a building to be used as a police station, police said here.

“Maoists set him free after the police cornered them at a place near Barwadih,” Superintendent of Police Kuldip Diwedi told newsmen here.

The person was abducted for working in the construction of a police station in Latehar’s Barwadih, he said.

Man arrested for trying to molest an airhostess

Kolkata, November 28: One person was today arrested for allegedly trying to molest an airhostess on board in a Kolkata-bound flight from Bangkok.

Surajit Deb (50) was arrested after he allegedly tried to molest an airhostess when she refused to serve him further drinks, police said.

Deb, a businessman, was coming from Bangkok to Kolkata in a private airline, the airport sources said.

He quarrelled with the cabin crew and was arrested as the plane landed here, they said.

Government lacks political will to combat corruption: Advani

New Delhi, November 28: Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani Sunday blamed the government’s “utter lack of political will” to check corruption for the around Rs.70 lakh crores ($1.4 trillion) of Indian wealth lying stashed in foreign banks still not being returned.

Delhi deputy speaker’s vehicle stolen

New Delhi, November 28:A pan-India alert was sounded after a vehicle belonging to Delhi assembly Deputy Speaker Amrish Singh Gautam was stolen from near his residence in east Delhi, police said Sunday.

Gautam’s sports utility vehicle (SUV) was stolen Saturday night after it was parked by his son around 10.30 p.m., police said.

“The 2010 make SUV was parked by Gautam’s son outside their residence in Mayur Vihar Phase III yesterday (Saturday) night after which the vehicle has not been seen,” said a police officer.

Gautam reportedly bought the vehicle around four months ago.

10 Maoists surrender in AP

Hyderabad, November 28: Ten Maoists today surrendered before the police in Narsipatnam town of Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam district, police said.

“The group led by G Chinakka voluntarily surrendered before the Visakhapatnam District Police OSD (Operations) Trivikram Verma,” Narsipatnam DSP N Narasimha Kishore said.

“All the 10 rebels were facing charges of attacks on village sarpanchs and creating law and order problems during Maoists bandh call in the state,” he said.

Pranab speaks to Yechury on Parliament deadlock

New Delhi, November 28: Sticking to its demand for a JPC into the 2G scam, the CPI(M) today put the onus to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament on the government which approached the Left party to break the deadlock in the two Houses.
