K’taka HC upholds disqualification of 11 MLAs

Bangalore, October 29: The disqualification of 11 BJP rebel MLAs was upheld by the Karnataka High court on Friday, Oct 29.

Earlier, the Karnataka speaker K G Bopaiah disqualifed 16 rebel MLAs under the anti-defection law hours ahead of the trust vote on Oct 11.

Challenging the order of Speaker K G Bopaiah, rebel MLAs filed a petition in court.

Assembly winter session from November 15

Hyderabad, October 29: Winter session of State legislative assembly is likely to begin from November 15 and continue for two weeks.

The state cabinet meeting will be conducted on November 3 in which the date of commencement of winter session will be finalized. Government sources say that government has decided and is geared up to convene the winter session of the houses in the second week of next month.

EU lifts ban on PIA

Omkara get court notice over bad language

Allahabad, October 29: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to serve court notices to producers and directors of ‘Peepli Live’, ‘Omkara’, ‘Gangaajal’ and ‘Bandit Queen’ for alleged use of abusive language in these movies.

The order was passed by the bench comprising Justice Umanath Singh and Justice Virendra Kumar Dixit, on a petition filed by a local lawyer Ashok Pandey.

The petitioner had sought an immediate ban on the screening of the movies stating that they are popularising the use of abusive language.

Multi-faith prayers at Sarojini Nagar blast site

New Delhi, October 29: Those injured in the 2005 Sarojini Nagar market pre-Diwali blast, their family members and the kin of those killed Friday offered multi-faith prayers at the site in south Delhi where 61 people lost their lives.

On the fifth anniversary of the blasts, around 60 people gathered near the site and a commemorative function was held.

“The family members prayed for the departed souls,” Sarojini Nagar Mini-market Traders’ Association president Ashok Randhawa said. This was followed by a puja following Hindu traditions.
