Three engineering students of BHU drown in Ganga

Varanasi, September 29: Three engineering students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) drowned in the Ganga river in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district, police said Wednesday.

The B.Tech (Electronics) third year students — Mihir Jha, Mayank Ahuja and Tarun Kumar — went on an outing late Tuesday after managing to get out of their hostel on the university campus.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the three students drowned while bathing near the Ravidas Ghat of the Ganga,” police inspector Mohan Verma told reporters in Varanasi, some 300 km from Lucknow.

3 govt employees held in disproportionate asset cases in AP

Hyderabad, September 29: Disproportionate asset cases were registered against three state government employees including a revenue department assistant secretary by Anti-Corruption Bureau, while a bench clerk working in the Junior Civil Judge Court was arrested in a separate corruption case today.

The ACB unearthed disproportionate assets worth of Rs 2.70 crore belonging to three employees during searches conducted at their residences, offices and other places, officials said.

Andhra HC reserves order on advocate”s writ petition

Hyderabad, September 29: A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court today reserved its orders on a writ petition filed by Chandrasekhar Reddy, an advocate, objecting to the withdrawal of resignation given by a sitting judge of the High Court.

Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy resigned and later withdrew his resignation.

The petitioner contended that the judge having resigned his post was not entitled to withdraw his resignation.

Ed Husic, whose mother and father are Bosnian migrants, said it was an enormous privilege to serve in Canberra as he conceded that his unique place in Australian political history was something of a milestone.

Baghdad blasts leave 10 people injured

Baghdad, September 29: Two explosive devices rocked the al-Sidiya neighborhood in southern Baghdad on Tuesday, a police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The blasts occurred within minutes of one other, leaving four people injured, he further explained.

Baghdad saw three more explosions later in the day when two bombs went off consecutively in the al-Kadhimiya suburb and a third bomb exploded in a market in the al-Washash region.

There were no immediate reports on casualties or property damage.

Dalit minor gangraped and filmed in MP

Bhopal, September 29: A minor Dalit girl was allegedly gangraped and the incident filmed on a cellphone by six youths, including the sons of a Deputy Collector and a head constable in Mandla. The incident came to light after the MMS, named “localwali”, was circulated in the tribal-dominated town of Madhya Pradesh.

“The rapists were very cruel and committed all sorts of indecent acts,” said sub-divisional police officer Santosh Mahto.

Cops all set for Ayodhya verdict day

Mumbai, September 29: In a move to control mobs in case of riots after the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit verdict tomorrow, Mumbai police for the first time will use plastic bullets at the rioters.

The city police has procured nearly two lakh plastic bullets for its use, if such a law and order situation were to arise. Officials said that the plastic bullets, unlike the more lethal bullets, would not be fatal and only immobilise the victim for a few hours. These bullets can be fired through SLR, Carbines and AK 47 assault rifles.

Jamia student beaten to death outside university

New Delhi, September 29: Two former students of Jamia Millia Islamia University were on Wednesday arrested for allegedly beating to death a young fine-arts student outside the campus in south Delhi, police said.

Sahil and Aijas were apprehended for allegedly beating to death 18-year-old Shahrukh Shaheer near Ansari Health Club outside Jamia campus yesterday, a senior police official said.

Two others, who were allegedly involved in the incident, are absconding. Efforts are on to nab them, the official said.

Lucknow, September 29: Allahabad High Court, which is set to deliver its Ayodhya title suit verdict involving the 60-year old Ram Temple-Babri Masjid dispute on Thursday, Sep 30, plans on making the judgment available to the people through the internet.

Warning the media against speculating the outcome of the Ayodhya title suit, the High Court announced that special website will be made available on which the gist of the issues, the operational part of the order and the final judgment would be published.

Hyderabad, September 29: Information technology (IT) solutions provider FirstObject Technologies Limited Tuesday said it has entered into an agreement with optical media giant Moser Baer India Limited for launching its e-education content on DVDs and USB drives.

“We plan to launch the DVDs and USBs in a phased manner throughout India by the end of October 2010,” said P. Ramnath, director of Firstobject.

According to the company, the collaboration with Moser Baer will enable it to widen its product offering in the media range through DVDs and USB drives.
