Three die as LPG cylinder explodes

Jangareddygudem, September 02: At least three people were killed when a Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinder exploded at Yarlagudem in Bhuttaiahgudem mandal in West Godavari district on Thursday.

According to sources, Bora Satyavathi, a housewife along with her daughter and son were killed when the gas cylinder exploded while she was cooking.

The explosion also partially damaged the house.

The police have registered a case.

CM cancels all official engagements

Hyderabad, September 02: Following doctors’ advice, Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Thursday cancelled all his official engagements.

According to Chief Minister’s Office sources, Mr Rosaiah underwent a series of medical tests on Thursday morning.

The sources say that the doctors from the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences attending on the Chief Minister advised him complete bed rest for two days.

Meanwhile, the doctors said that Mr Rosaiah was responding to treatment rather well for his viral fever and his condition is stable.

The famous and nutritious dish available here during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan will soon get the Hyderabadi tag akin to Darjeeling Tea, Banarasi Silk and Tirupati Laddu.

Once the Geographical Indicator (GI) tag is granted, Haleem makers outside Hyderabad will not be able to sell their product as Hyderabadi Haleem and even those within the city can claim the GI tag only if they meet the quality standards.

Wakf tenant can be evicted by Civil Court only: SC

New Delhi, September 02: The Supreme Court has ruled that a tenant of a Waqf property can be evicted only by a Civil Court and not by the
Wakf Tribunal.

A bench comprising Justice Markandey Katju and Tirath Singh Thakur disagreed with the views of High Courts of Andhra Pradesh,Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab and Haryana and also with the Waqf Tribunal, who have held that only Wakf Tribunal can order the eviction of a tenant as the jurisdiction of the Civil Courts is barred as per sections 6 and 7 of the Wakf Act.

Year after YSR’s death, Andhra pays rich tributes

Major administrative reshuffle in Raj; 50 officers tranferred

Jaipur, September 02: In a major administrative reshuffle, 48 IAS officers and two state administrative service RAS officers have been transferred in Rajasthan effecting change of Divisional Commissioner in four divisions and District Collector in 16 of the 33 districts.

has been made Additional Chief Secretary(Home) whereas Asha Singh, an officer of the same grade, has been posted as Development Commissioner.

Special law to construct Ram Mandir: RSS

Bhopal, September 02: RSS would prefer framing a law for the construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya even if the judgement on the issue of the disputed structure goes in their favour, former RSS spokesman Ram Madhav said here today.

“I am convinced that the judgement would come in our favour, but even then we would like to go for framing of a law by the Parliament for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya as there is no guarantee that it will be constructed after the verdict as other party will challenge it in higher court,” Madhav told reporters here.

Generations of mothers have depended on their baby’s facial expressions to tell them what they are feeling. But a study has found that giving a baby a spoonful of sugar before an injection or blood test may alter its expression without lessening its pain.

The finding casts doubt on whether we can really know what a baby is feeling from observing its responses – and on the decade-old practice of using sugar as a pain reliever for infants.

US hostage taker said he had bombs strapped to body

Washington, September 02: An armed man shot and killed by police after a tense four-hour standoff at the Discovery Channel’s headquarters told a TV channel he had several bombs strapped to his body “ready to go off.”

The gunman who had taken three hostages Wednesday in the Discovery building in the Washington suburb of Silver Spring in neighbouring Maryland spoke to an NBC producer for about 10 minutes during the siege.

Brother kills sister for honour in Punjab

Moga, September 02: In yet another case of honour killing, a man strangled his 14-year-old sister to death in Landke village of this Punjab district Wednesday, police said.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Lakhwinder Singh, murdered his sister Preeti because she was going around with a village boy for the last few weeks.

“Lakhwinder was not happy with his sister as she was in a relation with a village boy. He was trying to counsel his sister but suddenly lost his temper and killed her,” a police officer said.

240 victims of mass rape in Congo: UN

United Nations, September 02: The UN Wednesday said the number of civilians who had been brutally gang raped recently in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo now exceeds 240.

The UN alleged July 30 that Congolese militants of the Mai-Mai group and Rwandan rebels of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) descended upon villages in Kibua and the Walikale areas of the North Kivu province and engaged in the violent assault of at least 154 civilians.

WB increases Pakistan flood support to $1 bn

Washington, September 02: The World Bank said Wednesday it was raising its support for flood relief in Pakistan to $1 billion, from $900 million.

The announcement came after a meeting in Washington between World Bank president Robert Zoellick and Pakistani Finance Minister Hafeez Shaikh.

“As the surging Indus river devastates Pakistan, the country needs the world’s support to meet urgent humanitarian needs: Food, clean water, sanitation facilities, medical and nutritional supplies, and vaccines,” said Zoellick.
