ICICI employee kidnapped

Adilabad, September 28: An ICICI employee Swarnalatha was allegedly
kidnapped by some unidentified persons in Mandamarri area of this
district on Tuesday.

The victim’s husband has lodged a complaint with the police about the
kidnap. The police have registered a case and taken up investigation.
Reasons for the abduction are not immediately known. (NSS)

Couple tries to end life due to financial problems

Guntur, September 28: A man and his wife attempted to end their lives
due to financial problems in the Bhavana Rushinagar area of
Sattenapalli on Tuesday.

While the man died in the attempt, the condition of his wife is stated
to be serious.

Police suspect that financial problems might be the reason for their

Aishwarya to walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra

Mumbai, September 28: Aishwarya Rai will be walking the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra at the upcoming third edition of the India Couture Week.

“Beautiful Aishwarya is going to be the showstopper at my couture week show, ” Malhotra posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The designer, who has worked on Aishwarya’s looks for the mega-budget Endhiran and Action Replayy, is known to have given makeovers to many actresses, including Karisma Kapoor and Rani Mukerji.

He will be opening the couture week, starting Oct 6-10.

John strips for men!

Mumbai, September 28: Usually it is the girls who fall for actor John Abraham’s good looks, but the launch of the karaoke CD for his upcoming film “Jhootha Hi Sahi” saw men asking him to take off his shirt.

John unhesitatingly complied to their demands at the event here Sunday, but said: “I am too shy for all this. ”

As it happened, men gathered there were overwhelmed by his presence and wanted to see his chiselled body. They started screaming and asking John to strip off his shirt.

Woman thrown out of house for opposing rape attempt

Muzaffarnagar, September 28: A man allegedly tried to rape his daughter-in-law and when she resisted his attempt he forcefully threw her out of the house in Derpal at Aldi village, police said here.

The parents of the woman had lodged a complaint yesterday alleging that their daughter’s father-in-law tried to rape her. When she resisted his attempt, she was forcefully thrown out of her house, police said.

The woman is now living with her parents, they said, adding investigation is on.

Babri Verdict on 30th September

New Delhi, September 28: Memories of the riots that followed the Babri Masjid’s demolition on December 6, 1992, have made the state government jittery as the The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the petition to defer the Allahabad High Court’s impending verdict on Ayodhya regarding the settling of the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit issue.

All parties to the Ayodhya title suit, except the Nirmohi Akhara, had opposed the plea of retired bureaucrat Ramesh Chand Tripathi seeking the verdict be postponed.

SC Rejects Deferment of Ayodhya Verdict

New Delhi, September 28: The Supreme Court has rejected the plea for deferment of the verdict on Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit by the Allahabad High Court after the Attorney General said that uncertainty should not be allowed to continue.

AG G E Vahanvati, appearing before a three-judge special bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia, said the most preferred solution to the problem would be settlement but it has not taken place and the uncertainty which is prevailing should not be allowed to continue.

CBI Probe into Death Threats to Jaya

Banglore, September 28: Buckling under pressure from AIADMK, Tamil Nadu government today decided to hand over to CBI five cases regarding repeated death threats issued to its party chief Jayalalithaa.

The DMK government’s decision comes a day after an AIADMK delegation made yet another representation to the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary demanding a CBI probe into the threats.

New Delhi, September 28: The Supreme Court was set to decide on a petition to defer the Ayodhya verdict at 2 p.m. Tuesday even as the government said it did not want “any uncertainty to continue”.

CCTV footage shows Kasab attacking jail staff

Mumbai, September 28: Mumbai attacker Ajmal Amir Kasab had reportedly attacked a jail superintendent at the high-security Arthur Road jail on September 1, 2010.
The prosecution has submitted CCTV footage as evidence before the special court which shows Kasab attacking the jail superintendent.

The prosecution made the claim after Kasab’s lawyer demanded that they should be allowed to talk to him without the jail staff within hearing distance.

But the prosecution countered the argument saying Kasab was a dangerous man and the presence of jail staff near him was very important.

Manama, September 28: A Kuwaiti politician says he will shave off half of his moustache, if claims made by a newspaper columnist against him proved to be true.

In his column ‘Exclamation Mark’ in Al Watan daily, Fuad Al Hashem wrote that the Islamic MP Waleed Al Tabtabai, one of a number of journalists aboard the Turkish flotilla taking aid to Gaza, was so scared when the Israelis raided the ship, that he hid in the cleaners’ bathroom.

The 58-year-old columnist claims he heard a recording of Al Tabtabai eagerly pleading with an Israeli soldier who insulted him.

Muslim centre aims to prevent terror attacks

New York, September 28: The imam behind the controversial plan to build a Muslim culture centre near the site of New York’s September 11 attack said on Sunday the project is meant to prevent a similar attack.

In an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes programme, Imam Faisal Abdul Raouf said he feels duty bound to help protect non-Muslim Americans from such violence.

Abdul Raouf said building the centre, which will include a prayer room, two blocks from the destroyed World Trade Centre is “the right thing to do… America needs it and the Muslim world needs it,” he said.

Hyderabad, September 28: In a significant remark, a top leader of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has said that if the court verdict in Babri Masjid title case paves the way for the construction of a mosque and a temple side be side in Ayodhya, Muslims will not have any objection to it.

Moulana Abdul Rahim Quraishi, secretary and spokesperson of Muslim Personal Law Board, said in Hyderabad yesterday that there was nothing wrong in it because many places in India including Hyderabad has mosques and temples standing side by side.

NY teacher says she was a sex worker

New York, September 28: Parents at a school in New York were stunned when a 30-year-old teacher, who has a Master’s degree in fine arts, revealed she was a former sex worker.

Melissa Petro, a former hooker and stripper, has been teaching arts in a Bronx elementary school for the past three years, The New York Post reported on Monday.

The arts teacher, apparently “well-liked” by both parents and students, has posted online accounts of her previous jobs in Mexico and London, where she had worked as a prostitute earlier.
