CBI asked to be probe death threats to Jayalalitha

Chennai, September 28: The Tamil Nadu government Tuesday decided to hand over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) letters received by former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa threatening her with death.

The decision comes a day after a delegation of AIADMK leaders led by O. Pannerselvam met the chief secretary and home secretary and submitted a representation asking that the cases be transferred to the CBI.

The delegation expressed unhappiness at the way the cases were probed by the Tamil Nadu Police.

Karzai cries for son’s future

Kabul, September 28: Afghan President Hamid Karzai burst into tears today while delivering a speech on the problems facing his country, saying he feared the war might force his young son to leave his homeland.

“I don’t want my son Mirwais to become alienated, I don’t want that,” Karzai said while marking national literacy day.

“I want him to go to school here, I swear to God I’m worried, I’m worried, oh people, I’m worried. God forbid Mirwais should be forced to leave Afghanistan,” he said, referring to his three-year-old son, an only child.

Talking to reporters after emerging out of review meeting convened under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Rosaiah at the Secretariat, the Minister said that the Chief Minister has directed the officials to take steps to recover lands from encroachers.

New Delhi, September 28: The Congress Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court order dismissing a petition seeking postponement of the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya row.
