Washington, August 01: Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton married her longtime beau Marc Mezvinsky “in a beautiful ceremony” on a perfect summer Saturday night. In what was billed as the “wedding of the century”.

The bride’s parents, former president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, issued a statement shortly after the lavish ceremony in upstate Rhinebeck, New York, where family and friends gathered at a 50-acre estate for the ultra-private nuptials.

Geelani freed by government

Srinagar, August 01: Hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, who had been arrested last month for making inflammatory speeches, was released Saturday evening, an official said.

A senior police officer told IANS that Geelani, who had been admitted to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at Soura here after his health deteriorated last week, was conveyed that he is a free man.

Geelani, however, refused to move out of the hospital in response to his release order.

United States, August 01: Computer security researcher Barnaby Jack jokes that he has resorted to hiding cash under his bed since figuring out how to crack automated teller machines remotely using the Internet.

The New Zealand native on Saturday demonstrated his “ATM jackpotting” discovery for an overflow crowd of hackers during a presentation at the infamous DefCon gathering in Las Vegas.

“You don’t have to go to the ATM at all,” Jack told AFP after briefing fellow software savants. “You can do it from the comfort of your own bedroom.”

Politician stoned to death

Mumbai, August 01: On Saturday, enraged Republican Party (RPI) activists virtually shut down Nalasopara on the outskirts of Mumbai, after they discovered the body of their leader Sujit Rai at an under-construction site in Shirdi Nagar at Nalasopara (East).

According to police officials, workers discovered the 32 year-old’s body on Saturday morning around 7.30 am when they arrived at work. When police reached the spot, they discovered that Rai had been hit with stones lying at the construction site. Spots on the body also indicated that he had been attacked by sharp weapons, said a source.

Iraq’s bloodiest month in 2 years ends

Baghdad, August 01: The Iraqi government has announced that July was the deadliest month in the country in more than two years.

Data compiled by the health, defense and interior ministries show a total of 535 people were killed in attacks across the country in July, AFP reported on Saturday.

Some 396 of them were civilians, 89 were policemen, and 50 were soldiers. In addition, over 1,043 people were wounded.

The death toll in bombings and other terrorist attacks for July 2010 was the highest since May 2008.

Pre-Islam Saudi treasures on show

London, August 01: A “groundbreaking” new exhibition of rare artifacts from Saudi Arabia’s ancient past — some which have never been shown abroad — has opened in the Louvre, Paris.

The world-famous museum is hosting Roads of Arabia: Archaeology and History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a traveling exhibition showcasing 300 archeological treasures found in the Gulf country, many pre-dating the birth of Islam.

“It’s a groundbreaking historic event,” the Saudi Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abulaziz Al Saud told CNN.
