Sush-Wasim part ways

Mumbai, August 06: Splitsville. It’s over between Sushmita Sen and Wasim Akram. The actor and the  Pakistani cricketer were together for the past few months, but parted ways recently. 

One learns that Sushmita’s growing closeness to Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi didn’t go down too well with Wasim.

They were serious about each other and had talked about living together in the future.

Gujarat human milk bank

Vadodara, August 06: Gujarat’s first ever milk bank set up in Kashiba Gordhanbhai Children hospital here at Karelibagh here has come to the rescue to many new born babies, who are deprived of breastfeeding due to several factors.

Dr Arun Phatak, who took a lead in setting up this human milk bank in this hospital, said the initiative became necessary after direct breast feeding became nearly impossible to several new borns due to many medical factors such as caesarean deliveries and in many cases when infants are abandoned or are orphaned due to maternal deaths.

MIT Sloan Collaborating with ISB Hyderabad

Houston, August 06: To expand its global footprint without compromising its core values, MIT Sloan is heading up for a new collaboration with Business schools in India, by entering into a partnership with Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

Although MIT’s Sloan School of Management was instrumental in starting Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta fifty years back, but never collaborated with B schools there.

“India was a gaping hole that existed in our strategy,” said Sloan Deputy Dean S P Kothari.

Less merit scholarships sanctioned in 2009-10: Govt

New Delhi, August 06: The government has sanctioned 24,521 National Means-cum-Merit scholarships in 2009-10, down from 54,564 in the previous fiscal, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said states are not sending adequate number of eligible students for the monthly scholarship of Rs 500.

TDP To Undertake Padyatra On Babli

Hyderabad, August 06: The Telugu Desam Party has decided to undertake padayatra in the Sri Ram Sagar Project catchment area to create awareness about the Babli project, being illegally constructed by the Maharashtra government.

The party chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, would lead the padayatra. This was decided at the Politburo meeting of the party on Thursday.

Visitors’ entry at airport banned

Chennai, August 06: Visitors’ entry at the airport here was banned from today for an unspecified period, airport sources said.

The move came following directions from Union Home Ministry for security reasons and visitors will not be allowed in both domestic and international terminals, they said.

The ban will be in force till further announcements from the Ministry, they added.

Washington, August 06: Even though more than half of the country is seen as a safe haven for terrorists and al-Qaeda’s core here, a top American official on said that Islamabad is the front-line counter-terror partner for the United States.

“Pakistan, we must all remember, is a front-line counter-terrorism partner. More al-Qaeda operatives have been killed or captured in Pakistan than anywhere else,” Daniel Benjamin, Co-coordinator, Office of Counter-terrorism in the State Department said.

Ponting denies retirement rumours

Sydney, August 06: Denying speculation over his retirement this summer, Ricky Ponting has said he is more than happy playing cricket for Australia and captaining his country.

Ponting, 35, had been expected to at least complete this summer’s Ashes campaign and the 2011 World Cup on the sub-continent before deciding on his future.

Last night, a television report hinted that the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney could be Ponting’s last.

However, Ponting’s manager James Henderson told media that the speculation was inaccurate, According to reports.

Mumbai, August 06: Although born in a male body, Revathi who always considered herself a woman and even underwent a sex reassignment surgery to reaffirm her sexuality has landed in an identity crisis all in the name of a driver’s license.

Her unique driver’s licence sports two names and no gender specification.

“I finally had my driving licence. The licence did not specify whether I was male or female. Instead it referred to me as ‘Revathi who is Doraisamy'”, says A Revathi whose autobiography ‘The Truth About me: A hijra life story’ has been released recently.

US worried about Americans helping foreign terrorists

Washington, August 06: A series of arrests in the US this week have highlighted the government’s growing concern over US citizens providing assistance to foreign terrorist organisations like Al Shabaab, an Al Qaeda affiliate in Somalia.

As the Justice Department announced charges Thursday against 14 people in three US states with ties to Al Shabaab, Attorney General Eric Holder said: “These indictments and arrests… shed further light on a deadly pipeline that has routed funding and fighters to Al-Shabaab from cities across the United States.”
