Los Angeles, August 29: Singer Miley Cyrus seems to have moved on after her split with actor Liam Hemsworth as she was reportedly spotted flirting with the co-star of her new film ‘LOL-Laugh Out Loud’.

The ‘Hanna Montana’ star was spotted cozying up to actor Douglas Booth at the Lion’s Den restaurant in Waterford, Michigan, while out with their co-stars earlier this week, reports aceshowbiz.com.

The restaurant’s bartender told PerezHilton.com: ‘I thought they were boyfriend and girlfriend, they were flirting so much. She was really fawning all over him, acting really girly-girly.’

Hilton arrested for cocaine possession

London, August 29: Socialite Paris Hilton has been arrested on charges of possessing cocaine.

Hilton was detained by police in Las Vegas Friday night after they pulled over a car in which she was a passenger, reports contactmusic.com.

Police said they found a suspicious-looking white powder in Hilton’s purse, which was tested and proved to be cocaine.

The hotel heiress was arrested and booked into the Clark County detention centre, where she was charged with possession of a contraband substance.

She was, however, released on bail.

Israel preparing to attack Syria: report

Tel Aviv, August 29: Tel Aviv has escalated its military presence in the occupied Golan Heights and the northern part of the Shebaa Farms, the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz said, citing a report in the Saturday edition of the Kuwaiti daily Al Rai.

The report quoted European sources as saying that recent Israeli reconnaissance flights, which violated Lebanese and Syrian airspace, are indications that Israel is ready to start a war in the area.

The potential targets are located far inside Syrian territory, the report added.

Jilted lover kills woman’s family in Turkey

Istanbul, August 29: A 56-year-old Turkish man shot dead a woman for rejecting his advances and three of her family members in Istanbul, a media report said.

Mustafa Senkaloglu allegedly killed Meryem Oktay, who had rejected his advances several times, as well as her daughter, son-in-law and grandchild Saturday, Xinhua reported citing local NTV channel.

Bomb threat to Jayalalithaa

Chennai, August 28: A letter threatening a bomb attack on AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa during her proposed rally in Madurai next month was received by the ”JAYA TV” today, a top official of the pro-AIADMK channel said.

In a complaint to police, a copy of which was released to media here, the official said the letter received at its office here said Jayalalithaa should cancel the Madurai rally or else she and her followers will be killed by a bomb attack.

Chidambaram wants power sharing in TN after next polls

Coimbatore, August 29: Exuding confidence of an alliance involving Congress coming to power in Tamil Nadu after next year”s Assembly elections, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram tonight said the party should be accommodated in the government.

Without mentioning any party, Chidambaram said “an alliance” would come to power in the next elections in Tamil Nadu which should accommodate the Congress in the government.

CM pays tributes to Archbishop Joji

Hyderabad, Aug 28 (INN): Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Saturday visited the St Mary’s Church in Secunderabad to pay his last respects to Archbishop Marampudi Joji who passed away on Friday after suffering a massive heart attack.

Mr Rosaiah laid a wreath on the body of the Archbishop and observed two minutes of silence.

The Archbishop’s funeral will be held at Vijayawada on August 30, at the Gunadala Shrine, according to his Will.

Archbishop Joji, more popularly known as the People’s Archbishop had passed away in his sleep late on Friday evening. He was 68.

Kolkata, August 28: Terming the arrest of Hari Prasad, a Hyderabad-based activist who claimed that EVMS could be tampered with, as “a danger to the sanctity of voting”, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh Friday slammed the government’s silence on the issue.

Top Kashmir woman separatist leader arrested

Srinagar, August 28: Hardline woman separatist leader Asiya Andrabi, believed to be one of the masterminds of the current unrest in the Kashmir Valley, was arrested from a hideout here Saturday, police said.

Andrabi was arrested from Zakura on the city outskirts, a police officer told IANS.

The chief of the women’s separatist outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Andrabi was issuing shutdown calendars through emails to the media and was one of the brains behind the turmoil in the valley, police said.

BJP to back Ranchi shutdown against temples demolitions

Ranchi, August 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended moral support to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)-sponsored shutdown on Sunday to protest the Ranchi administration’s move to demolish 39 temples constructed on government land.

“Our party is against demolition of any temple in the state. We extend our moral support to the shutdown called by the VHP,” Raghubar Das, state BJP president, told IANS. He said: “It is shocking that temples will be demolished on a large scale in the state.”

NY gov. slammed for westernized Muslims comment

New York, August 28: Muslim leaders in the United States are criticizing Gov. David Paterson for his description of the developers of an Islamic center and mosque planned near ground zero as peaceful, “almost westernized” Muslims.

Falling coconut kills Colombian man

Bogota, August 28: A man died after a falling coconut hit him on the head while he was relaxing in the shade of a coconut palm in the Colombian town of Melgar.

Jose Abelino Ramirez, 69, was resting in a rocking chair Thursday, as he did every afternoon, when a coconut fell from a 12-metre-tall palm tree outside his home.

The autopsy found that Ramirez suffered injuries to the skull and brain that caused his death.

Sania Mirza seals a berth in US Open main draw

New York, August 28: Sania Mirza sealed a berth in the women’s singles main draw of the US Open with a hard earned win over Columbia’s Catalina Castano in the qualifying event.

The unseeded Indian overcame a second set lapse to beat her rival 6-1 1-6 6-3 in the third and final round in one hour and 48 minutes here.

Sania saved four beakpoints and broke Catalina twice to race to a opening set lead. However, Catalina fought her way back by winning the second set, cashing in on both the break chances that came her way.

Sohrab case: Johri accuses CBI of pressurising her

New Delhi, August 28: In a new turn in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, senior Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Geetha Johri has accused the CBI of pressurising her to implicate some political leaders, including arrested BJP leader Amit Shah.

In a curative petition filed with the apex court, she has sought the removal of Balwinder Singh, CBI’s Special Director who is supervising the investigation into the case, and said he be made a witness in it.

Uddhav demands Chidambaram’s resignation

Mumbai, August 28: Reacting sharply to Home Minister P.Chidambaram’s remarks on “saffron terrorism”, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray demanded his resignation from the cabinet.

Speaking to newspersons here Friday afternoon, Thackeray said that a person who does not understand the true colours of terror must not remain in the cabinet. “Chidambaram should resign for making such remarks,” he demanded.

He also urged the Congress to make its stance clear on the entire issue of the “saffron terrorism” referred to by Chidambaram.

Firing near US consulate in Peshawar

Peshawar, August 28: A gunfight was raging Saturday morning between militants and security forces near the US consulate in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, Xinhua reported.

The firing broke out around 6.00 a.m. and is still on. Troops have surrounded an intelligence building which the militants have entered.

No further details were immediately available.

Five killed in U.S. strike in Pakistan – officials

Islamabad, August 28: U.S. drone aircraft have attacked suspected militants in northwest Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan, killing five people, Pakistani officials said.

The attack, in the Kurram ethnic Pashtun tribal region, was the latest in a U.S. campaign aimed at eliminating al Qaeda and Taliban militants who base themselves in northwest Pakistan and attack U.S-led forces into Afghanistan.

“There were attacks in three different places on Friday evening,” said a government official in the region, who declined to be identified.

43 school children injured in bus accident in Rajouri

Jammu, August 28: Forty-three children were injured, three of them seriously, when their school bus skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Nowshera area of Rajouri district today. The bus, on way from Chingus to Nowshera, met with the accident while negotiating a curve at Narian, about 80-kms from here, around 0745 hours, police said.

43 children were injured in the accident, they said, adding locals helped in the rescue operation and the children were rushed to Nowshera sub-district hospital. The condition of three school children is stated to be serious.
