Hyderabad, July 22: “It is inhuman and unfortunate,’’ was how Bhuvaneswari, wife of Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu, reacted to his arrest and the subsequent ‘ill-treatment’ meted out to him by the Maharashtra police.

Bhuvaneswari, who never reacts to political developments, came out with a strongly- worded statement here on Tuesday condemning the high-handed behaviour of the Maharashtra police towards the TDP delegation which had gone there to inspect the Babli irrigation project.

BJP accuses PCC chief of threatening party cadre

Hyderabad, July 22: Bharatiya Janata Party has charged the Nizamabad (urban) Assembly constituency candidate and Pradesh Congress president D Srinivas with threatening their party cadre.

In a complaint to the chief electoral officer I V Subba Rao here today, party state general secretary N Ramachandra Rao said that supporters of Srinivas had attacked a BJP worker at Nizamabad today but the police did not take action against the culprits.

Anantapur, July 22: Anticipating a backlash from the Telugu Desam activists following the detention of their party chief N Chandrababu Naidu and others in Maharashtra, chief minister of that state Ashok Chavan has cancelled his visit to Puttaparthy tomorrow for a darshan of Satya Saibaba.

Hyderabad, July 22: Two years ago, young Yangala Lakshmi Pathi of Chittoor district went to meet the district collector seeking financial help to purse his Intermediate. But the then collector was preoccupied and could not meet the lad.

Instead of being discouraged, the youth resolved to himself become a collector some day.

Two Ugandans held for drug peddling

Hyderabad, July 22: The CCS sleuths on Wednesday arrested two Uganda nationals who were supplying cocaine and ganja to youngsters. Eight gram of cocaine and 750 gram of ganja was seized from them. The duo, Patrick Emario and Ayebare Donald from Kampala, were caught moving suspiciously in a car near a hotel in Banjara Hills, additional commissioner of police (crimes) N Narasimha Reddy told reporters. The duo were procuring the narcotic substances from a person named as George.

23,000 students pass Eamcet but fail in Inter

AIG adopts modern method to remove liver tumours

Hyderabad, July 22: In a big relief to people suffering from liver cancers, the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) has introduced the use of radio frequency in the resection of liver tumours.

Dr. Nagy Habib, a world-renowned professor of surgery at the Imperial College of London, UK, today operated on three patients at the AIG adopting the technique.

He resected big tumours using Habib4X knife which is used to cut tumours without causing bleeding. One of the patients is a 34yearold woman who developed a big tumour due to long-term use of contraceptive pills.

Hyderabad, July 22: The standing committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) which met here on Wednesday approved sanction of laptops, printers and internet facility to the 150 corporators and five co-opted members of the GHMC.

With a laptop with printer priced in the range of Rs 35,000- 40,000, the largesse is expected to cost the GHMC about Rs 90 lakh.

Call centre employee hangs herself in hostel

Hyderabad, July 22: A CALL centre employee, who hailed from Jharkhand, hanged herself to death in a women’s hostel at SR Nagar here late last night. Police, however, could not ascertain the reason for the suicide as her family members are yet to arrive in the city.

According to the police, Mohini Sharpa (18) was working at a call centre at Begumpet and moved into the Shobha Women’s Hostel at SR Nagar just ten days ago. She was sharing a room with four other women in the hostel.

Woman drowns 2 daughters, self in water drum

Hyderabad, July 22: A woman on Tuesday threw her two young daughters into a water drum and then descended into it head first at Begumpet. It is alleged that she had been depressed after giving birth to two daughters. Police said the woman had a history of abnormal behaviour and had tried to end her life earlier by jumping into the Hussain Sagar.

TDP chief roughed up, shoved into plane

Hyderabad, July 22: TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and 73 of his men were stuffed into an airplane in Aurangabad and flown back to Hyderabad where he touched down to a hero’s welcome at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad tonight. The return of the TDP team ended the five-day drama that began when Naidu was stopped at the AP-Maharashtra border in their bid to visit the Babli irrigation project on July 16. The Maharashtra police arrested them and lodged them in judicial custody in a mangy ITI building in Dharmabad.

3 arrested in US for killing Hyderabad student

Washington, July 22: Three people have been arrested in the US on charges of gunning down an Indian software engineering student from Hyderabad during an apparent robbery at Bridgeport in Connecticut.

Arun Kumar Narote, 26, a student at Stratford University, was working as a part-time store clerk at a grocery store to earn some money for his studies, when he was gunned down by unidentified assailants on July 14.

Kuwaitis are 31% in Kuwait

Kuwait City, July 22: Kuwaiti experts sounded alarm bells over the increasing demographic imbalance in the Gulf state and the constantly widening gap between foreign and local population.

Nationals are becoming a minority in Kuwait, observers warned. While the total number of Kuwaitis is estimated at 1,200,000, the number of foreigners amounted to almost two and a half million.

According to the latest official statistics, Kuwaitis make 31.6% of the population, which translates into a ratio of one Kuwaiti for every two and a half foreigners.

Turkey to build 1st nuke plant in southern province

Ankara, July 22: Turkey is all set to construct its first nuclear power plant in the southern province of Mersin.

The Turkish Parliament had adopted the bill on July 15 and the law on its construction and operation had entered into force after it had been published in the Official Gazette yesterday.

Turkey and the Russian Federation have signed an agreement in Ankara on the construction of the nuclear power plant on May 12, 2010.

US military chief fears another 26/11 on India

Washington, July 22: The US’ top military official fears a possible repeat of a Mumbai type terror attack on India by Pakistan based terror outfits to provoke another conflict between the two nuclear armed nations.

‘One of the things that struck me then, and is still a great concern, is how 10 terrorists could drive two nuclear-armed nations closer to conflict,’ Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen told reporters travelling with him on his way to India.

Indian brothers killed in plane crash in US buried

Bangalore, July 22: Two Indian brothers who died along with an American national in a plane crash in the US earlier this month were buried here today. The bodies of Kartik Kalaichelvan (22) and Pratik Kalaichelvan (19) were brought to the city today and taken to their house in Kalyan Nagar before being taken to Seste Church.

The bodies were later buried, family sources said. The two brothers, whose father is a pilot with the Kingfisher Airlines here, died in the crash on July 13 in a small town Tolar, about 45 miles Southwest of Forth Worth in Texas.
