LeT OGW held for supplying SIM cards to JK militant

Jammu, July 25: Security forces arrested an over ground worker (OGW) of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for allegedly supplying SIM cards to an arrested militant in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

Following interrogation of the arrested LeT militant Abdul Lateef of Kishtwar, police raided the house of Mohd Arif, an OGW of LeT at Bhalla village in Bhderwah tehsil of Doda district last night and arrested him, they said.

Arif was taken to Kishtwar for interrogation about the SIM cards and police are trying to find out about the involvement of any other person in the racket.

ANC demands dismissal of Omar Govt

Jammu, July 25: The Awami National Conference (ANC) today demanded the dismissal of Omar Abdullah Government alleging that it had failed on social, political and economic fronts.

“Omar government has lost credibility as it has lost its grip over the state administration and failed miserably on social, political, economic and administrative fronts in Kashmir valley,” senior Vice President, ANC, Muzaffar Shah told reporters here.

He termed the ruling National Conference’s demands for release of political prisoners and grant of autonomy as an attempt to befool the people.

EC notice to TRS chief, AP minister for code violation

New Delhi, July 25: The Election Commission today issued notice to TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on charges of abetment of corrupt electoral practices and making derogatory remarks against a woman Andhra Pradesh Minister two days ago.

The poll authority, acting on complaints received by it, issued notice to Rao and asked him to send a reply by 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.

According to the notice, the TRS chief had made certain derogatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Sabitha Indira Reddy while campaigning in Sircilla (Karimnagar) for the Assembly bypolls in the state on July 23.

Taliban says ambush kills one US sailor, one captured

Kabul, July 25: The Taliban have offered to exchange the body of a US Navy member they said was killed in an ambush two days ago in exchange for insurgent prisoners, an Afghan official said today.

US and NATO officials confirmed that two American Navy personnel went missing on Friday in the eastern province of Logar, after an armored sports utility vehicle was seen driving into a Taliban-held area.

Afghan officials believe one was killed and the other captured when they apparently took a wrong turn and ended up in a dangerous area of Logar.

New Delhi, July 25: Suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi will have to face the music if he is found guilty of corruption, according to ICC president Sharad Pawar who on Sunday made it clear that there was no question of “protecting” his one-time protege.

Pawar said the recent corruption scandal has tarnished the image of IPL to some extent and Modi was paying the price for his controversial style of functioning which had not gone down well with the BCCI’s top brass.

‘Sexual harassment allegations false and malicious’

Patiala, July 25: Suspended weightlifting coach Ramesh Malhotra today denied charges of sexual harassment levelled against him by Olympic bronze medallist Karnam Malleswari, saying the allegations are “false and malicious”.

The Sports Authority of India coach, who was nominated by the Indian Weightlifting Federation for this year’s Dronacharya award, was suspended yesterday after Malleswari alleged that he harassed junior lifters for over a decade.

Four arrested for vehicle thefts

New Delhi, July 25: A 18-year-old boy and his minor accomplice, who allegedly stole motorcycles and sold them for a meagre Rs 4,000, were apprehended here and ten two-wheelers were recovered from them, police said today.

Two youths from Haryana who bought the stolen motorcycles from them were also nabbed.

After indentifying a target vehicle, police said, one of the gang members would speed away with it while others kept watch of the surroundings.

Sohrabuddin Case: CBI arrests Former Gujarat HM Amit Shah

Gandhinagar, July 25: The CBI today arrested former Gujarat minister Amit Shah in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case after he appeared before the agency for questioning here.

46-year-old Shah, who earlier made a dramatic appearance before the media at the BJP state headquarters in Ahmedabad after having evaded CBI summons in the case since Thursday, drove to the agency’s office here accompanied by BJP state office-bearers.

Malegaon blasts: Sadhavi moves SC for bail

New Delhi, July 25: Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is facing charges under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for her alleged involvement in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, has moved the Supreme Court for bail.

The petition is listed for hearing on Monday before a bench comprising Justices J.M. Panchal and Gyan Sudha Mishra.

Pragya’s counsel Sushil Balwada, who has filed the petition challenging the denial of bail by the Bombay High Court, said he will seek adjournment of the matter for two weeks.

The high court had rejected her bail plea on March 12.
