Meghna Naidu’s email hacked

New Delhi, June 23: Item girl Meghna Naidu’s email id was hacked and the hacker used her account to write obscene mails about her, a police complaint filed by the actress said.

“I came to know that my gmail account has been hacked Saturday. The person was chatting with my friends and writing all obscene things about me. While talking with my friends, the impostor wrote that I am pregnant and wanted to abort the child,” Meghna told IANS Wednesday.

It was Meghna’s ex-publicist Dale Bhagwagar, who realized that something was fishy.

‘Allahu akbar!’ shouted as Christians cuffed

Washington, June 23: Four Christians were arrested and thrown out of a public Arab festival in Michigan and at least two people claim a crowd cheered “Allahu akbar!” while the Christians were led away in handcuffs for doing nothing more than engaging in peaceful dialogue and videotaping the event.

Sachin an honorary IAF group captain?

New Delhi, June 23: The Indian Air Force (IAF) may grant the honorary rank of group captain to batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar in recognition of the laurels he has brought to the country, an official said Wednesday.

“The IAF has given a proposal to the defence ministry for according the honorary rank of group captain to Sachin Tenduklar. There is no final decision taken on it as of now,” the official said.

The 37-year-old right hand batsman has played 166 Test matches, scoring more than 13,400 runs — the highest by any cricketer — and 47 Test hundreds.

Sopore, June 23: “We’ve left it to Allah!” was the reaction of the distraught family of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru following media reports that the home ministry had recommended his hanging.

“We don’t know about the development. We have no knowledge if the home ministry has taken any decision on it,” Guru’s cousin, who did not want to be named, told IANS.

A published report Wednesday said the government had asked President Pratibha Patil to reject the mercy plea of Guru, who is on the death row for the 2001 parliament attack.

Obama to give McChrystal a final hearing

Washington, June 23: Terming his top military commander’s remarks to a magazine as showing ‘poor judgement’, US President Barack Obama says he wants to hear directly from Gen Stanley McChrystal before taking a final call on deciding whether or not to fire him.

Obama in his first comments on the disparaging magazine story that has enraged both the White House and Pentagon said McChrystal and his aides showed “poor judgement”.

Obama would be meeting the General during his monthly situation room meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan at White House on Wednesday.

Karachi, June 23: Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi says he wanted Younus Khan to be picked in the squad for the upcoming tour of England, but that he alone was not involved in picking the squad, which was selected jointly by the national selection committee, the coach and himself.

“I wanted Younus to be in the team but besides the issue of his recent form there was also a bit of disciplinary issue with Younus,” Afridi said in the “Captain’s corner” show on Geo TV.

French parliament to debate burqa ban on July 6

Paris, June 23: French lawmakers will begin on July 6 to debate a government proposal to ban the Muslim full-face veil from public spaces, a minister said.

The lower house National Assembly will read the bill before it passes to the Senate in September and it could be adopted into law soon after, said Henri de Raincourt, the minister for parliamentary relations.

The bill by President Nicolas Sarkozy’s government proposes to ban anyone in France from wearing a garment “designed to hide the face” a move interpreted as targeting Muslim women who wear veils such as the niqab or burqa.

Cameron Selogie says his Il Vinaio restaurant in Mesa has received a bomb threat and more than 250 e-mails from protesters after it announced it would offer lion as a special to honor the soccer tournament.

He says African lions are on the protected list, but not endangered.
