Jamshedpur girl to replace Avika Gor in ‘Balika Vadhu’

Mumbai, June 26: As child actor Avika Gor is set to leave popular TV serial “Balika Vadhu”, she will be replaced by Pratyusha Banerjee from Jamshedpur with the soap’s protagonist growing up by five years.

In mid-July, the child bride in “Balika Vadhu” on Colors channel will be five years older and Pratyusha, who has never been seen on screen before, will replace Avika.

A source in Colors said Pratyusha was chosen for her lack of experience.

Esha Deol along with co-star Arjan Bajwa has shot for some high-octane action sequences for Tell Me Oh Khuda. The film touted as the star daughter’s comeback project is produced by her mom Hema Malini and directed by writer Mayur Puri.

The scenes were filmed at Mormugao in Goa and had the stars precariously perched on the iron ore barges along the waterfront. Both of them did the action shots themselves without resorting to body doubles.

When the actor was travelling from London to Mumbai, Aamir Khan was on his flight and next day when he took a flight back to London to join his wife and son for summer holidays, he met Shah Rukh Khan.

Akshay described his superstar experience on twitter as “funniest”. The actor said both he and Aamir enjoyed a bit of the football world cup before they flew back to Mumbai together.

Kabul blast an accident

Kabul, June 26: An explosion that rocked Kabul Saturday was caused by the accidental detonation of a mine, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said, defusing fears of a terror attack.

‘All we know is that an anti-personnel mine was detonated while it was being carried by an Afghan National Army vehicle,’ an ISAF spokesman said.

The explosion took place close to the Chinese embassy and a UN office, Zamarai Bashary, a spokesman for the interior ministry, said earlier. There were no reports of casualties.

Curfew in Sopore, separatist shutdown in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 26: Curfew continued on Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town, a day after the killing of two youths by security forces led to violence, while life in Srinagar was affected by a separatist shutdown.

“Curfew continues in Sopore but the situation there is peaceful,” a police officer said here.

However, there were reports of protesters defying curfew and pelting stones at a few places in Sopore, some 55 km from here.

Yuvraj, Ishant back in India Test team

Mumbai, June 26: Flamboyant middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh, who was excluded from the Asia Cup team just a fortnight ago, made a spectacular comeback into the India’s 16-member squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka, starting July 18.

Blast near Afghan Foreign Ministry was accident: ISAF

Kabul, June 26: A blast near Afghanistan’s foreign ministry on Saturday was caused by an anti-personnel mine accidentally discharging in an army vehicle, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (SAF) said.

“Our understanding is that an anti-personnel mine was detonated while it was being carried in an ANA vehicle (Afghan National Army), an ISAF spokesman said.

Police officials earlier said in the immediate aftermath of the blast that they suspected a suicide bomber could have been responsible.

Captain of Pak-bound ship to be questioned

Kolkata, June 26: The Karachi-bound cargo vessel from Bangladesh carrying military hardware and explosives was kept cordoned off on Saturday at Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas district with the captain disembarked and taken for questioning.

The captain of the Liberian registered ship, who was not identified, was taken to the Radisson Fort resort for questioning, police officials said.

The Navy and Coast Guard personnel had seized the ship yesterday on an intelligence tip off. It was anchored at Kalicharanpara.

Largest gold coin sold at $4 mn in Austria

Vienna, June 26: The world’s largest gold coin, weighing 100 kg with a diameter of 52 cm, was sold for 3.27 million euros (about USD 3.99 million) at an auction here.

Spanish dealer Oro Direct offered the price and became the owner, Xinhua reported.

Six bidders were registered for the auction. Oro Direct offered the bid in a written form, while the other five applicants participated through telephone.

The coin was originally owned by Auer von Welsbah (AvW), an Austrian investment management company, which went bankrupt in May 2010.

Makkah ex-imam’s website hacked

Jeddah, June 26: A website belonging to a former imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah was hacked last week.

Anyone visiting Sheikh Adil Al-Kalbani’s website at the time would be greeted with a blank page with a picture at the top of the movie character The Joker, who the hacker had apparently named himself after.

At the bottom of the page is a statement criticizing the sheikh for stating that music and singing is permitted in Islam.

Al-Kalbani’s website featured a number of articles and lectures as well as a question and answer section allowing him to interact with visitors.

Explosion hits Kabul embassy quarter

Kabul, June 26: An explosion rocked Kabul Saturday morning, but there were no immediate reports of casualties, a government spokesman said.

The explosion took place close to the Chinese embassy and a UN office, said Zamarai Bashary, a spokesman for the interior ministry. There were no reports of casualties.

The blast, which occurred on the same road where the foreign ministry is located, was caused by an Afghan army vehicle packed with explosives, said a security official who did not want to be named.

Fresh show cause notice to Younus for misconduct

Karachi, June 26: The ban on him might have been lifted but the disciplinary proceedings against Younus Khan have not yet stopped with the Pakistan Cricket Board planning to send him a fresh show cause notice for alleged misconduct on the tour of Australia.

Pakistan Cricket Board legal adviser Tafazzul Rizvi has confirmed plans to send the notice to Younus.

Rizvi said that the move is as per the instructions of the appeal’s judge, Justice (retd) Irfan Qadir.

US drone attack kills four in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 26: At least four people were killed in a suspected US drone attack early Saturday in Pakistan’s tribal region bordering Afghanistan, a media report said.

The drone targeted a house in Mir Ali area, about 30 km from Miranshah in North Waziristan tribal area, Xinhua reported citing Dawn News channel.

US drones have been regularly targeting militant hideouts in the tribal region, which Washington considers the centre of Taliban and Al Qaeda remnants.

Obama to host African leaders in August

Toronto, June 26: US President Barack Obama will host African leaders from countries celebrating 50 years since independence in August, an administration official said.

Obama, whose father was from Kenya, announced the White House celebration during a meeting with African leaders at the Group of Eight (G8) summit in Huntsville, Canada.

“I’ll be 49 in August,” Obama reportedly told the gathering Friday, noting that his father was a first-generation African who studied in the US.
