Abhishek shoots despite injured back

New Delhi, June 01: Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan shot for a new commercial for beauty brand Lux despite an injured back.

“Sometime ago, Abhishek was shooting for ‘Dum Maro Dum’ and while on the sets he hurt his back badly and was down with a sprain. But that didn’t dampen his spirits or affect his shooting schedule with Lux,” said a source.

Mumbai, June 01: Brushing aside concerns over a potential clash with the World Anti-Doping Agency, the International Cricket Council said the sole point of difference was over the “whereabouts” clause of the WADA code to which it is a signatory.

“BCCI is WADA-compliant. It’s just a question of agreeing on the finer details of the whereabouts clause,” said ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat at a media conference to announce the launch of online sales of tickets for the 2011 World Cup to be held in the sub-continent.

No Indian team for Asian Games – BCCI

New Delhi, June 01: The BCCI has announced that it will not send a cricket team from India, in both men and women categories, for the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. The board said the teams will not be available for the global event between November 12 and 27 because of the international schedule.

“We would not be able to send our team, both men and women, for the Asian Games in China because of international commitments,” the BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said in Mumbai. “We have communicated the same to the Indian Olympic Association.”

Afridi asks for youth in Asia Cup

Karachi, June 01: Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan captain, has asked for the infusion of youth for the Asia Cup starting in Sri Lanka on June 15.

“We should have three to four new players along with the seniors so that we can strike the right balance in the one-day side. I think the time is right to start grooming and giving exposure to some of our young lot because we also have to keep the 2011 World Cup in mind,” Afridi said.

Maruti Suzuki records highest ever monthly sales, crosses 1 lakh units

Mumbai, June 01: Country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India today reported its highest monthly sales ever at 1,02,175 units in May, registering a 28 per cent jump from same period last year.

For the first time the company has crossed one lakh units in monthly sales, Maruti Suzuki India said in a statement.

Sales for the same month last year were at 79,872 units.

New Delhi, June 01: Italian luxury car maker, Lamborghini Tuesday unveiled the limited edition of its fastest sports car Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce in India priced at Rs 3.6 crore (ex-showroom).

The new car comes with a 6.5 litre V12 petrol engine and can speed from zero to 100 kilometre per hour in 3.2 seconds. It has a maximum speed of 342 kilometre per hour and the company will introduce only 350 units of the high-end model in.

India gold hits fresh all-time high

Mumbai, June 01: India gold futures recovered from their previous day’s losses on Tuesday afternoon to hit a fresh all-time high following strong overseas leads and a weaker rupee.

Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) struck a fresh record of 18,659 rupees per 10 grams, before easing a tad to 18,649 rupees at 2:04 p.m., still up 1.44 percent.

The contract breached the last record of 18,648 rupees hit on May 26.

Assam Rifles jawan dies after being thrown off bus

New Delhi, June 01: An Assam Rifles jawan was killed after he was allegedly thrown out of a speeding Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) bus by its staffers in Sitamarhi district, police said on Tuesday.

The jawan, identified as Harsh Narayan Jha, sustained grievous injuries after he was allegedly pushed out of the speeding bus near Dumra locality by BSRTC staffers following an altercation over payment of fare for his luggage in the wee hours, District Superintendent of Police, Anwar Hussain said.

Afghanistan retakes district from Taliban

Kabul, June 01: Afghan and US-led forces say they have recaptured the Bargi Matal district located in the mountainous Nuristan province near the Pakistani border from Taliban militants.

“No shots were fired and no one was harmed during this operation,” the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) for Afghanistan said Tuesday.

“In a joint operation of ANA (Afghan National Army) commando unit and coalition forces last night at 21:50 hours (1720 GMT) the Bargi Matal district of Nuristan province was captured by government forces,” ISAF said in a statement.

Attempted honour killing leaves woman with acid burns

Bulandshahr (UP), June 01: A girl was today severely injured when her brother threw acid on her for being in love with a boy from another religion, police said here.

The incident occurred early this morning in Charora village where the victim, Gulshan, was found lying unconscious on the bank of Ganga canal on the outskirts of the town, they said.

According to Chief Medical Superintendent Dr S P Ahuja, the victim was brought to the District Hospital by a home guard constable and admitted with 55 per cent burns.

Tehran, June 01: Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili has rapped an Israeli attack on the Gaza aid convoy saying the assault is a sign of Israel’s weakness.

The Iranian official made the remark during a telephone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr al-Thani on Monday night.

“Israel’s deadly attack on the Gaza-bound aid Flotilla reveals the terrorist nature of the Zionist regime,” IRNA quoted Jalili as also saying.
