Los Angeles, February 02: Hollywood actresses Demi Moore and Miley Cyrus are in talks to play mother and daughter on the big screen in a remake of 2009 French hit L.O.L. Laughing Out Loud.

The two stars are the frontrunners to recreate roles played by Sophie Marceau and Christa Theret in the Lisa Azuelos film, reports contactmusic.com. Azuelos will write and direct the Hollywood re-do.
The film follows the exploits of a teenager and her divorced mother as they attempt to get on with their lives after break-ups.

Reliance Money plans to sweep market with new product

Kolkata, February 02: Reliance Money, distribution and broking brand of Reliance Securities Ltd (RSL), today launched a new product for customers, allowing unlimited equity trading for a fee of Rs.6,000 for three months. It plans to sweep the market with this product.

“There are around one million potential traders in the country and we are looking at sweeping the market,” Reliance Securities executive director Vikrant Gugnani told reporters.

The product would help aggressive investors and regular traders to trade without brokerage charges for three months.

Afghan president to meet Saudi king over peace talk with Taliban

Kabul, February 02: Afghan President Hamid Karzai left for Saudi Arabia Tuesday to discuss his new reintegration plan aimed at luring Taliban away from violence.

The president is scheduled to visit religious sites before meeting King Abdullah, Karzai’s office said in a statement.

Karzai is expected to ask the Saudi ruler to play a role in guiding the peace process, it said.

Black flag demonstration at Rahul meeting venue

Dehri-on Sone/Bhagalpur (Bihar), February 02: A black flag demonstration by a Muslim outfit was held today at Bihar’s Bhagalpur district where AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi addressed Youth Congress leaders.

Over 100 members of the Muslim United Front took out a procession carrying black flags from Tatarpur to Sandish area in the district demanding implementation of the Sachar Committee and Liberhan Commission reports.

The demonstrators, led by district president of the organisation Abu Kaiser, were taken into custody near Ghantaghar chowk in the district, police said.

2-match ban mild for serial offender Afridi:Border

Melbourne, February 02:Former Australia captain Allan Border has flayed the two-match ban imposed on Shahid Afridi, saying the Pakistani all-rounder, being a ‘serial offender’, deserved a sterner punishment.

“It wasn’t enough given that he’s been a bit of a serial offender in front of ICC disciplinary committees,” Border said on Fox Sports show ‘Inside Cricket’.

New Delhi, February 02: Rumours were rife that Aishwarya Rai will dance to the tunes of hit number “Apni toh jaise taise”, which was originally picturised on her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, in Sajid Khan’s “Houseful”. But sources close to her say that she is yet to accept the offer.

NTPC public issue priced at Rs.201 per share

New Delhi, February 02: State-run power utility NTPC will sell each equity share at Rs.201 as part of the public offer to divest five percent of the government’s stake, while its employees will be able to subscribe at a discount of Rs.10, the company Tuesday said in a statement.

“The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) in its meeting held on Feb 1 decided the floor price for Further Public Offer of NTPC Ltd. at Rs.201 per equity share,” the company said in a statement.

‘Nitish has good intentions but his govt has failed’

Patna, February 02: On a mission to build his party in poll-bound Bihar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today stuck to his view that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was a man of good intentions but his government has thoroughly failed in implementation of welfare schemes like NREGA.

Addressing a press conference here, Gandhi also alleged that 20 to 30 per cent of funds under NREGA were going to “middlemen” in Bihar.

“The intention of Nitish Kumar is good but his government has been a total failure on the implementation front,” he said.

Students in trouble as UK halts visa operations

Patna, February 02: Unimpressed with Bihar’s growth rate of 11.03 percent, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi today said the state remained unchanged and the Nitish Kumar-led government had failed to take the benefits of development funds to the poor.

Gandhi slammed the Janata Dal-United government for its failure to properly implement central government-sponsored development programmes, particularly the rural job guarantee scheme. He said middlemen were eating away the money meant for poor.

Obama moves to scrap back to moon programme

Washington, February 02: The Obama Administration has moved to scrap NASA’s ambitious but over-budgeted back-to-moon programme citing its economic non-viability and indicated it wants the space agency to spend towards longer-range research.

Aamir’s father, filmmaker Tahir Hussain passes away

Mumbai, February 02: Bollywood producer Tahir Hussain, the father of superstar Aamir Khan, passed away today morning following a cardiac arrest, family sources said.

“He had a massive heart attack. Aamir and Kiran, who are in Los Angeles, are flying back. The funeral is likely to be tomorrow evening,” sources said.

Tahir is best known as the producer of blockbusters like ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’ (1993), ‘Zakhmee’ (1975), ‘Anamika’ (1973) and ‘Caravan'(1973).

He had also directed Aamir for the first time in his directorial debut ‘Tum Mere Ho’ in 1990.

India strengthening security set up in AP: Antony

Bangalore, February 02: India is strengthening security set up in Arunachal Pradesh to enhance its deterrent capability but there was no question of militarisation of the north-eastern state, Defence Minister A K Antony said today.

China has repeatedly raked up its claim over Arunachal Pradesh and even objected to visits of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. India has strongly rejected China’s claims.

Protesting CPI(M) workers held in TN

Chennai, February 02: Tamil Nadu CPI(M) unit secretary and other party workers were arrested today while trying to stage a protest outside the Raj Bhavan demanding immediate action to stop alleged attacks by Sri Lankan navy on Indian fishermen and withdraw a controversial Fisheries Bill.

Hundreds of CPI(M) workers were arrested while they were proceeding towards the Raj Bhavan, police said, adding that the arrested included state CPI(M) unit secretary N Varadarajan and MP T K Rangarajan.

Defiant Amar Singh not to quit Rajya Sabha seat

New Delhi, February 02: Moments after being expelled from Samajwadi Party, Amar Singh today struck a defiant note ruling out quitting his Rajya Sabha seat and termed as baseless reports about his cosying up to Congress, NCP and BSP.

“I have earned the (Rajya Sabha) seat and not got this as alms. I will not quit the seat. Even Mulayam Singh Yadav had not asked me to do so when I had spoken to him a few days ago,” Singh told reporters here.

He was answering a specific question whether he will give up his Rajya Sabha seat after his expulsion from the party.

Toll in bus accident rises to 10

Dehradun, February 02: The toll in the bus accident in Champawat district of Uttarakhand today rose to 10 with three more passengers succumbing to their injuries this morning.

Seven people had died on the spot when the bus fell into a gorge yesterday, police said.

Meanwhile, the condition of five persons admitted in hospital has been stated to be serious.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident and Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank has asked the district administration to provide ex-gratia to the next of the kin of the deceased.

Life crippled in Srinagar as separatists call for strike

Srinagar, February 02: Life in Srinagar and major towns of Kashmir valley was crippled on Tuesday by a separatists-sponsored strike called to protest the killing of a teenager in teargas shelling on Sunday.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and transport was off the road in response to calls given by separatists, including both factions of Hurriyat Conference, police said.

Youths pelted stones at vehicles in Batmaloo, Maisuma, Bemina and Natipora in uptown and several other areas of old city, they said, adding the situation was, however, under control.

Kapil Sibal blames parents for suicide

New delhi, February 02: Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibbal blamed the parents for the students’ suicide, accusing them of embedding their high expectations into psyche of their children.

The HRD minister the children live under pressure always eyeing to meet the parental expectations. “They are told to secure more than 90%; they are asked to do this and to do that.
