College student ends life in city

Hyderabad, November 05: A final year college student today allegedly committed suicide while another girl attempted to kill herself here, police said.

B Anusha (19), B.Com final year student of a private college at Somajiguda, had been upset over alleged humiliation meted out by her some classmates, they said.

She informed her father Prasanna Kumar this morning about the harassment, who promised her that he will visit the college tomorrow to complain to the college authorities.

SC starts fresh hearing on Ambani gas row

Bodies of two Pak nationals handed over to Pak Rangers

Attari (Amritsar), November 05: The bodies of two Pakistani nationals, including that of a heart patient who died recently, were today handed over here by the BSF to Pakistani Rangers.

Sabir Ahmed (28), a resident of Lahore, had arrived India by the Lahore-Delhi Friendship Bus on October 23 on a 45 day-visa for undergoing a heart bypass surgery but died at the Escort Hospital in Delhi yesterday.

The other one was that of 30-year-old Shehbaj Azam Khan, who had been lodged in prison after Rajasthan police arrested him on charges of illegally entering the country in May, 2007.

Andhra Chief Minister to meet PM, Sonia on Saturday

Hyderabad, November 05: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday.

Rosaiah’s trip assumes significance as it will be his first visit to the national Capital after assuming charge as Chief Minister on September 3 following the death of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Migrants fume as permission denied to meet Chidambaram

Jammu, November 05: Migrants in the Jammu region today staged a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan here protesting against alleged denial of permission to meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram during his yesterday’s visit.

The protesters said they wanted to meet the minister to submit a memorandum demanding urgent intervention of state governor to ensure them relief measures as provided to migrants in the Kashmir region in accordance with a Supreme Court order in 2006, official sources said.

Leaders of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) were also present in the dharna.

Centre should caution West Bengal: Cong

Kolkata, November 05: West Bengal Congress today said the Centre should caution the state over repeated violence there but did not favour immediate imposition of President’s Rule as demanded by Trinamool Congress.

State Congress working presidents Pradip Bhattacharya and Subrata Mukherjee told reporters here that they were not immediately demanding imposition of President’s Rule, but the Centre should take some measures to caution the state government.

Quake hits Taiwan, no reports of damage

Taiwan, November 05: A 5.7 magnitude earthquake rattled much of Taiwan on Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, officials and witnesses said.

The epicentre of the quake, which struck at 5:32 p.m. (0932 GMT) was in Nantou County of central Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau said in a statement.

The US Geological Survey said the epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 7.4 miles.

Local TV showed images of buildings shaking and people running for exits.

A local rail system said for safety reasons it had stopped trains near the quake site.

Shilpa Shetty to wed Raj Kundra on Nov 22

Hyderabad, November 05: An angry state sports minister shot off a letter to BCCI President alleging black-marketing of tickets for India-Australia cricket one-dayer as irate fans staged protest outside the Rajiv Gandhi stadium here today.

Fans who could not buy tickets for the fifth encounter in the seven-match series staged a protest before the start of the match today.

Sports Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy pointed fingers at working of the Hyderabad Cricket Association which he said was not transparent as far as sale of match-tickets was concerned.

Doctors accused of selling babies

London, November 05: Three doctors and a nurse have been arrested for allegedly selling newborn babies after telling mothers their children had died at a private hospital in Mexico City.

Police uncovered the scheme after one of the women learned her baby was alive and had been sold to another woman for 15,000 pesos (£680), said Luis Genaro, the capital’s deputy attorney general.

The woman gave birth to a girl through caesarean section at the Central West Hospital in a working-class district in October 2008, Mr Genaro said at a news conference.

Lalu Yadav releases candidates list for Jharkhand

Patna, November 05: The RJD would contest 22 of the 30 constituencies going to polls in the first phase of assembly election in Jharkhand to be held on November 25.

Releasing the list of 22 candidates, party chief Lalu Prasad here today said, “We have left five seats for LJP and three for CPI and CPI-M.”

Stating that RJD has arrived at a seat-sharing accord with these three parties, he told reporters that this alliance would prove to be a viable alternative in Jharkhand.

Koda moves out of ICU, hospital asked to inform before discharge

Ranchi, November 05: The Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate have asked the hospital, where Madhu Koda has been admitted, to inform them before discharging the beleaguered former Jharkhand Chief Minister, facing probe for alleged hawala transactions.

Koda, who got himself admitted to the ICU of the hospital, has been shifted to a room.

“We have been directed by both the IT and ED to inform them about his health bulletin and also tell them before we discharge Koda,” P D Sinha, Medical Superintendent of the Abdur Razzak Weavers’ Memorial Hospital, Appollo Group, said today.

New plan for child labour launched in Bihar

Patna, November 05: The Bihar government has launched a new plan for rehabilitation of child labourers, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said today.

“Under the action plan, specific steps for schooling, motivation, awareness and stringent enforcement of law will be taken for release and rehabilitation of child labourers,” Modi said.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the centrally-sponsored scheme, National Child Labour Project (NCLP), was being executed in the state.

Srinagar, November 05: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has written to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urging him to recommend the name of Rukhsana, who shot into limelight after killing a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist, for National Bravery Award, officials said here today.

Vohra had lauded the exemplary courge of the girl who along with her brother had killed the LeT militant in Kalsian area of Shahdra Shrief on September 27.

The Governor had asked for a formal report from the Director General of Police following which he could recommend her name for the gallantry award, they said.

Tata(Jamshedpur) topped per capita carbon emission in 2007-8

New Delhi, November 05: Jamshedpur had the highest per capita carbon emission while Thiruvananthapuram and Asansol had the lowest in 2007-08, according to an energy status report of 40 Indian cities.

The survey, released here today, was carried out in 53 cities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, an international NGO working for creating a partnership of cities for combating climate change.

Bus mows down three students in AP

Hyderabad, November 05: Three students were today crushed to death and an equal number injured by a speeding bus in Anantapur district, about 340 kms from here.

The mishap took place at Nayanpalli village in the district when a group of students were walking towards a bus stop and were run over by the bus, killing them on the spot, a senior police official said.

The deceased were students of Intermediate first year, eighth and tenth standard

Three others who sustained injuries in the incident were provided medical aid and their condition is out of danger, he said.
