Hrithik to play double role in Krrish 2

Mumbai, November 06: Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan is all set to double role in the upcoming superhero movie Krrish 2.

Rakesh Roshan has told the entire team to be tight-lipped about the movie but there is a buzz in the tinsel town that he has finished scripting and has penned double role for his son. This will be the third time Hrithik will be playing double role in a movie after Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and Krrish.

Strike cripples life in south Kashmir Kulgam on Hurriyat call

Srinagar, November 06: Life was crippled in south Kashmir district of Kulgam today due to a strike called by breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) in protest against the alleged illegal occupation of lakhs of kanals of land by security forces in the state.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was also off the road.

Work in government offices, banks and public sector undertaking was affected due to the strike. Educational institutions wore a deserted look as students and teaching staff stayed away in response the call.

Defeat would leave India low on morale: Gavaskar

New Delhi, November 06: Former captain Sunil Gavaskar reckons the narrow loss that India suffered in Hyderabad has left the team devastated and also adviced the hosts to rethink about their team composition.

The three-run loss to Australia last night was India’s second defeat on trot in the seven-match series and Gavaskar said the morale in the Indian camp would be very low.

”The team will be devastated. They looked to be cruising until they were 15 runs away from victory,” said the former Indian opener.

BJP leader’s security guard commits suicide in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, November 06: The security guard of Sanjay Tandon, a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, committed suicide today while he was on duty and deployed outside Tandon’s residence here in Sector 18, police said.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Amrik Singh, 32, a native of Hoshiarpur town in Punjab, around 90 km from here.

VHP stages sit-in on fatwa against Vande Mataram

Lucknow, November 06: Office bearers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (Awadh region) staged a sit-in on Thursday in front of the Vidhan Bhawan and threatened a bigger agitation, while protesting against the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind’s fatwa against Vande Mataram.

“National song Vande Mataram is not against any religion and should not be associated with it. It should be recited and respected,” said VHP media in-charge Ambuj Kumar Ojha.

Protesters stop Amritsar-Delhi Shatabdi Express in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, November 06: The Amritsar-New Delhi Swarn Shatabdi was stopped by protesters, who are seeking justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, at the Ludhiana railway station today morning, officials said.

The train, which left Amritsar station early today, was stranded at the Ludhiana station with over 600 Delhi-bound passengers, police officials said.

Police and railway officials were trying to persuade the protesters to lift the blockade and allow the train to proceed.

Prakash Jha grudgingly forgives Nana Patekar

Mumbai, November 06: Prakash Jha has finally relented to Nana Patekar’s pleas begging forgiveness and has decided to forgive, if not forget Nana’s behaviour.

Ten die in Bihar after drinking moonshine

Patna, November 06: Ten people have died in the last three days in Siwan district of Bihar after drinking moonshine, police said today.

More than 12 others are seriously ill and battling for their life in various hospitals, a police officer said.

“It appears that they died after consuming spurious liquor. Police are investigating,” Siwan Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain said.

According to an official in Siwan district administration, the deaths took place in Nawalpur Mohalla, Naya Bazaar and Siswan Dhala of Siwan, about 150 km from here.

New Delhi, November: Pakistani singer Atif Aslam, who crooned his way into the hearts of Indians with Bollywood songs, has revealed he has acting offers from the industry and is open to them. “Artists don’t belong to any nation,” he says.

ACB spl judge remands Municipal commissioner to judicial custody

Vijayawada, November 06: The Special Police Establishment (SPE) and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases judge, Vijayawada today remanded Machilipatnam Municipal Commissioner P Satyaveni and her husband Veeraanjaneya Prasad to 14-day judicial custody on charges of accepting Rs 5000 as bribe from a suspended junior assistant to submit a report to the regional director of municipal administration in his favour.

Sensex surges 208 points in opening trade

Mumbai, November 06: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today soared by 208 points in opening trade on continued buying by funds, driven mainly by firming global trends after a better-than-expected US economic data.

The 30-share BSE index shot up by 208.47 points to 16,272.37 in opening trade as all the sectoral indices were trading in positive zone with gains up to 3.22 per cent.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also gained 65.50 points to trade higher at 4,831.05.

US slaps sanctions on branch of Iran’s Bank Mellat

Washington, November 06: The US Treasury Department today announced sanctions against the Malaysian subsidiary of Iran’s Bank Mellat, which Washington says helps finance the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The Treasury Department said Bank Mellat “has facilitated the movement of millions of dollars for Iran’s nuclear program.”

Sanctions also were slapped on Bank Mellat chairman Ali Divandari who “plays a significant role” in the bank’s “activities and decision-making process.”

UN to pull its staff out of Afghanistan

Washington, November 06: The United Nations is to evacuate hundreds of its foreign staff from Afghanistan because of spiralling violence, warning that it may permanently withdraw from the country unless the security situation improves.

In a move which will add to the sense of foreboding caused by insurgent attacks and political crisis, the organisation said that 600 of its 1,100 international employees would be moved abroad or to safer internal locations.

Hyderabad, November 06: After becoming the first player in the history of cricket to gather 17,000 runs, Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar said that he was glad to have the honour of representing the country in the international arena for 20 years.

Tendulkar achieved the milestone during his 141-ball 175, which he made for a losing cause.

“It’s the passion of representing India in international cricket that keeps me motivated all the time. It’s always a dream to play for my country. I am absolutely honoured to do that for the last 20 years,” Tendulkar said after the fifth one-dayer.
