Mumbai, November 07: The petite and pretty Minissha Lamba who was last seen in “Kidnap’ has been keeping busy shooting for Shyam Benegal’s ‘Abba Ka Kuan’ and hence has not been able to socialize with some of her dear friends.

So Minissha Lamba, who was recently returning home from the capital, was in for a pleasant surprise to meet her long time friend Amrita Rao on the flight.

From what we hear, the two of them instantly got down chatting about everything under the sun and catching up on each other. Needless to say, the duo was seen having a gala time throughout the journey.

‘Tum Mile’ turns Soha into a hydrophobic

New Delhi, November 07: Soha Ali Khan will think twice before doing a disaster film again after Tum Mile, which has July 2005 Mumbai deluge as its backdrop, as the actress feels the film has turned her into a hydrophobic. The actress calls the whole shooting experience a “nightmare” and is happy that the film is finally over.

“Shooting for the film was pretty much a nightmare. I don’t think I will able to do this kind of film again. I am glad that it is over. It was physically very demanding, very tiring hard work and I have become quite phobic to water since the film,” she told PTI.

Nicole Kidman down with flu

London, November 07: Actress Nicole Kidman is down with flu, forcing her to cancel a charity trip to Kenya.

The Australian actress was to fly to the African nation as part of an initiative launched by the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), reports imdb.com.

Kidman planned to visit schools and hospitals in the country and raise awareness about women’s rights, but has now pulled out of the tour after falling ill.

Teena singh turns Teena turner

Mumbai, November 07: A top director attached to one of the biggest production houses in the country mistook actress Teena Singh to be Tina Bhatia- or make that Twinkle Khanna.

Teena who was the runner up in the Musafir item hunt a couple of years ago, had gone off to New Delhi to finish her MBA and then picked up a job in a bank akin to what Soha Ali Khan did.

If one notices, Teena looks like Twinkle in some of her pictures.

US shooting: Suspect moved to trauma centre

Houston, November 07: A US military psychiatrist accused of killing 13 people in a shooting rampage at a key defence base has been moved to a San Antonio medical facility, the army’s only ‘level one’ trauma centre, as investigators searched for the motive behind the horrific incident.

39-year-old Major Nidal Malik Hasan, an American citizen of Jordanian descent, was captured after he was shot four times by a woman police officer following his shooting spree at Fort Hood military base in San Antonio near Houston on Friday.

Jaya Bachchan has a role to play in Paa

Mumbai, November 07: Jaya Bachchan has been roped in to introduce the cast and crew in Amitabh Bachchan’s forthcoming film Paa, instead of the usual credits by director Balki.

The idea came to Balki while editing the film. He felt that Amitabh’s character in Paa, especially, should be introduced by someone. That’s when Jaya Bachchan was thought of. The sequence was shot around a week ago.

Balki confirmed the news and joked that he was just looking for an excuse to work with Jaya Bachchan. And he was glad the need to work with her cropped up.

Russian military plane crashes, 9 killed

Moscow, November 07: A Russian military plane crashed in the country’s far east, killing all nine people aboard, news agencies reported.

An emergency ministry official said the Tu-142-M3 anti-submarine turboprop crashed late yesterday in the Tatarsky Strait about 20 kilometers off the Pacific coast, ITAR Tass reported.

The plane disappeared off radar screens shortly after 1100 GMT when it was finishing a training flight, the Interfax news agency quoted a Defense Ministry official as saying.

Deepika was chosen after Ashutosh considered Sonam Kapoor and Genelia D’Souza for the role. Asin left the film citing date issues but in reality, she is getting choosy about films since her last film, London Dreams flopped.

The news about Deepika being a part of the film was confirmed by Ashutosh’s wife, Sunita.

Hezbollah slams al-Alam suspension by Arabs

Beirut, November 07: Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has slammed two Arab satellite providers for banning Iran’s Arabic-language news channel al-Alam.

“Hezbollah condemns Arabsat and Nilesat’s decision to stop broadcasting the channel al-Alam, a decision made on political grounds,” Hezbollah said in a Friday statement, describing the move as a violation of freedom of speech.

The two Arab satellite providers dropped al-Alam this week without any prior notice.

The channel’s request for an explanation has remained unanswered.

Israel rejects UN vote on Gaza war crimes

Jerusalem, November 07: Israel has rejected a UN General Assembly resolution for an investigation into a report on the regime’s war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

“Israel rejects the resolution of the UN General Assembly, which is completely detached from realities on the ground that Israel must face,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The non-binding resolution which has been commissioned by the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council, endorsed a report by South African Judge Richard Goldstone on committed war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinians take down parts of WB wall

Gaza, November 07: Palestinian youths have tipped over a part of Israel’s separation wall in the occupied West Bank during a demonstration which marked the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Some 300 Palestinians and left-wing activists attended the demonstration in the village of Naalin, Ynet reported on Friday.

They held banners reading “No matter how tall, all walls fall.”

According to the demonstrators, a 6-meter (20-foot) high section of the wall was taken down.

Karnataka Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa says crisis has been resolved

New Delhi, November 07: Karantaka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, facing demands from dissidents to step down, today said “everything has been resolved”.

“Everything has been resolved….I am thankful to the party leadership for reposing faith in me. I will take everyone into confidence,” he said.

Yeddyurappa, who was here to meet the Central leadership on the issue, was talking to reporters before leaving for Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu.

“The BJP government in Karnataka will complete its full term,” he said.

Continued Saudi air attacks kill 40 Houthis

Sanaa, November 07: More than forty Yemeni Houthi fighters have been killed in the fresh Saudi Arabia’s air attacks on the northern Yemen fighters holding territory in the border region.

The fighters were killed in the remote mountainous regions of Malahit and Maran in Saada province.

The Saudi military said the attacks were in response to an earlier confrontation between Shia fighters and Saudi security forces that killed two Saudi security men.

IMF releases $329.4 million loan to Sri Lanka

Washington, Nov 07: The International Monetary Fund said on Friday its executive board completed a review of Sri Lanka’s economic performance and released $329.4 million from a stand-by loan agreement.

The IMF board also approved Sri Lanka’s request for a waiver on certain performance criteria.

“Sri Lanka’s performance under the stand-by arrangement is encouraging,” said Takatoshi Kato, IMF deputy managing director.

‘Ajab Prem Ki…’ has edge over ‘Jail’ on first day

New Delhi, November 07: Romantic comedy “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, has sent the box office cash registers ringing, elbowing out Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Jail” on the first day Friday.

“‘Ajab Prem Ki…’ has got a terrific initial thanks to the star cast but it will suffer on the content part. While ‘Jail’ has had a very slow opening…that of only around 20 percent. Shelf life for both movies is only limited till Monday,” Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor told IANS.

Technology doesn’t isolate people

Washington, Nov 07: Contrary to popular belief, the Internet and mobile phones are not isolating people but enhancing their social worlds, according to a U.S. survey.

The survey was sparked by a 2006 study by U.S. sociologists who argued technology is advancing a trend seen since 1985 — Americans becoming more socially isolated, their social networks shrinking, and the diversity of their contacts decreasing.

UN chief sending Gaza war crimes report to Security Council

Washington, November 07: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said yesterday he will send a report calling for Israel and the Palestinians to investigate alleged war crimes during last winter’s conflict in Gaza to the UN Security Council “as soon as possible.”

The 15 council members have already received copies of the 575-page report by an expert panel chaired by South African Judge Richard Goldstone. But the General Assembly in a resolution adopted Thursday asks the secretary-general to transmit it, which will make the report an official Security Council document.

Seven-year-old killed, mother robbed in train

Gondia (Maha) November 07: A seven-year-old boy was killed and his mother robbed off her jewellery in a running train in between Durg and Rajnandgaon railway station today, police said.

The assailants made the victims unconscious after thrusting a chemically sprinkled cloth on them and snatched a gold chain, a ring and a hand bag from Rozy Aslam Gilani (33), resident of Raipur, who was travelling in Bhubneshwar-Kurla Gyaneshwari Superfast Express to Nagpur along with her son Arsh for treatment, they said.

Polling begins for Firozabad LS, 31 assembly seats

New Delhi, Nov 07: Polling for one Lok Sabha and 31 Assembly seats spread across seven states started on Saturday morning amid tight security.

As polling started at 8 am, voters were seen trickling in at some booths. Congress’ politician-turned-actor Raj Babbar is pitched against SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in- law Dimple in the Firozabad Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.
