Salman Khan- Sanjay Dutt: The multimillion investors

Mumbai, September 02: The two so called ‘bhai’ of Bollywood “Salman Khan” and “Sanjay Dutt” have come together in a heavy deal.

As the sources say the two actors have invested their share of money in similar apartments in ‘The Address Building’ in Bandstand.

According to the sources, the actors have paid Rs.270 million each for the triplex flats which measure approximately 6000 square feet.

Salman had bought the place earlier and then recommended it to Sanjay.
Though the news was under observation by a mediator, Sanjay Dutt denied it while Salman remained unavailable for comment.

Rani Mukharji takes more time than Aamir Khan: Salman Khan

Mumbai, September 02: Bollywood actress Rani Mukharji has passed Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan as she took longer time to answer a question in Salman Khan’s “Dus Ka Dum”.

The actress, who was on his show “Dus Ka Dum” took so much time to answer the question that Salman Khan had to say that she was taking even longer than Aamir Khan to answer.

A source said, “Salman Khan went and sat on the sofa, asking her to tell him when she was ready with the answer. Only then, he said, he would take his position back on the show.”

No marriages, functions in Delhi parks, orders court

New Delhi, September 02: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday expressed concern over the damage done to the parks in the capital due to social gatherings and asked the civic agencies to ensure marriages and other functions are not held in these places.

“The parks were not meant for such functions and if these events were allowed to be held there, an irreparable damage would be caused to the flora and fauna of the capital,” a division bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah said.

Datavision ropes in IBM for banking solutions

Bangalore, September 02: Datavision Software Solutions has tied up with global IT major IBM to provide web-based core banking solutions to cooperative banks with its proprietary product DateMate, the company said on Wednesday.

“DataMate will enable cooperative banks to provide customer relationship management through a unified view of customer’s transactions. IBM will help the banks migrate to web-based core banking offerings,” Datavision managing director Prakash Khanchandani said in a statement.

ICMR official found dead in Delhi

New Delhi, September 02: An official of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) allegedly committed suicide at his residence in south Delhi Wednesday, police said.

M.P. Singh, 48, deputy director with the ICMR, was found hanging from the ceiling at his CGO Complex home in south Delhi around 9.30 a.m., a senior police official said.

“He was depressed for the past few days. We are investigating the matter,” the official said.

Saint Gobain Gyproc plans to double turnover

Chennai, Septemebr 02: Gypsum-based building solutions company Saint Gobain Gyproc India is hoping to double its turnover to Rs.600 crore by focussing on commercial and hospitality building segments.

“The trend is to construct highrise buildings at a quicker pace, which is possible by using gypsum plasterboard-based products for ceilings and drywalls,” said company general manager for marketing N.E. Subramanian.

“Further, the buildings have to be fire-safe and offer acoustic comfort, which traditional construction materials do not offer,” Subramanian told reporters here Wednesday.

Two Maoists killed in West Bengal

Kolkata, September 02: Two Maoists were killed in a gun battle with security forces in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, police said Wednesday.

The shooting took place when a joint patrol of central paramilitary forces and the state police were marching in the forest area of Kadashol.

“Two Maoists were killed in the firing and two squad members were arrested by the central forces today (Wednesday),” state Inspector General (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha told.

“No one from the security forces was injured in the gun battle,” he said.

Bangladesh to host 2011 World Cup opening ceremony

Mumbai, September 02: Bangladesh will host the opening ceremony of the 2011 Cricket World Cup Feb 17.

The Central Organising Committee (COC) of the World Cup met here on Wednesday and also decided that the inaugural match of the World Cup will be held in Bangladesh Feb 19.

The full schedule of the tournament will be released Nov 9.

India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will jointly host the mega event. Pakistan was scrapped as hosts by ICC due to security issues.

South Korean firm to invest $1.7 bn in Myanmar

Yangon, September 02: South Korea’s Daewoo International Company will invest $1.7 billion in gas exploration and production projects in western Myanmar, in which two Indian companies have a combined stake of 25 percent, a media report said Wednesday.

The gas produced from the Rakhine offshore area will be exported to China in 2013, the weekly Voice reported citing company officials.

The money will be used in the development of infrastructure at two blocks, A-1 and A-3, from where China would buy the gas for 30 years, the report said.

Apex court may challenge high court ruling on judges’ assets

New Delhi, September 02: The Supreme Court may challenge a ruling by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that the office of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) is a public authority to assess judges’ assets and falls under the purview of the Right to Information Act, top apex court officials said.

“We have just received the copy of the high court judgment. We are examining it at present. It will take a few days before we can say what to do with it,” Supreme Court Secretary General M.P. Bhadran told.

Sony plans to come out with 3-D TV next year: Report

New York, September 02: The Japanese electronics company Sony Corp plans to introduce a liquid-crystal-display television capable of playing 3-D programming by the end of next year, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

Sony is to announce its plans for the new TV next week at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, an unnamed source familiar with the plans told the Journal.

NTPC not to file separate plea in Ambani brothers’ tussle

Noida, September 02: State-run power utility NTPC will not file a separate plea in the ongoing legal dispute between Reliance Industries and Reliance Natural Resources since the government has already moved an application to protect its own and the navratna firm’s interests, a senior government official said Wednesday.

“Since the petroleum ministry has come out in support of NTPC, there is no need for NTPC to go to the Supreme Court,” Power Secretary H.S. Brahma told reporters here.

Canada, India bilateral trade to almost treble in five years

Kolkata, September 02: Bilateral trade between India and Canada is expected to grow threefold in five years, according to Gerald Keddy, the parliamentary secretary to the North American country’s international trade minister.

“We are looking at a bilateral trade of $14 billion in the next five years,” Keddy said at a press meet here Wednesday after inaugurating the Canada Trade Office.

This is Canada’s third trade office in India after Delhi and Mumbai, with Hyderabad and Ahmedabad slated to follow.

Sensex ends lacklustre day 84 points down

Mumbai, September 02: Late selling on Wednesday pulled down a key index of the Indian equities markets, forcing it to shut shop 83 points lower than its previous close after a lacklustre day of trade.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 15,482.05 points, ended at 15,467.46 points, down 83.73 points or 0.54 percent from its previous close of 15,551.19 points.

The broader-based Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) followed the Sensex to end at 4,608.35 points, down 0.37 percent.

High economic growth key goal of foreign policy: Krishna

New Delhi, September 02: Outlining the thrust of India’s foreign policy in the first 100 days of government, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna on Wednesday said India had pursued “a multi-dimensional” policy of deepening ties with major global players and its neighbours without compromising on its autonomy of decision-making.

California almond shipments to India increase 19 percent

New Delhi, September 02: Almond shipments from California to India increased 19 percent to 39,460 tonnes in 2008-09, says a US study.

According to the Almond Board of California report, India has become the fourth largest export market for US almonds following Spain, Germany and China.

“India is amongst the fastest-growing markets for California almonds and a top priority for long-term investment for the California almond industry,” said Richard Waycott, president and chief executive of the Almond Board that is in charge of promoting almonds, California’s largest tree crop.

Allegedly killed over Facebook status

Australia, September 02: A WOMAN was murdered by her partner after changing her Facebook status, a British court has been told.

Hayley Jones was found dead in her home by her children after being strangled and stabbed by her partner Brian Lewis after she changed her relationship status on Facebook, the prosecution claimed.

It was alleged Lewis had threatened to kill Ms Jones rather than lose her to another man, the BBC reports.

IAF fighter joins search for YSR’s missing chopper

New Delhi, September 02: The Indian Air Force (IAF) Wednesday evening pressed into service a frontline Sukhoi SU-30MKI combat jet that has night vision capabilities to locate the missing helicopter carrying Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

“Due to its better imagery and night vision capabilities, a Su-30 MKI has been pressed into service. It can look through the cloud and foliage cover in the area,” an IAF spokesman said.

Reddy’s helicopter went missing at 9.35 a.m. soon after taking off from Hyderabad in inclement weather.

Delhi is most affluent city in India, survey shows

New Delhi, September 02: Delhi is the most affluent city across India followed by Bangalore and Greater Mumbai, a recent survey says.
The Nielsen Upper Middle and Rich (UMAR) survey was conducted across 35 Indian cities and covered 18,250 affluent individuals. It used a new method of defining ‘affluence’ that is based on lifestyle and consumer durables’ ownership of a household rather than factors like monthly income, education and others.

The other seven in the list of top 10 affluent cities are Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Pune, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

Two held for kidnapping 10-year-old boy for Rs.3 m ransom

New Delhi, September 02: Two men who kidnapped a 10-year-old boy in the national capital and held him for a Rs.3-million ransom were arrested in Haryana, Delhi Police said Wednesday.

“Navdeep, 21, and Sandeep, 25, were arrested for their involvement in the kidnapping of Deepanshu, a class V student, from near his Mundka residence Aug 31. One of their accomplices, Deepak, is absconding,” Deputy Commissioner Sharad Aggarwal said.

The boy is now safe and with his parents, he added.

London, September 02: Hollywood Actress Demi Moore has revealed that she wishes for a child from her husband and actor Ashton Kutcher.

‘Marie Claire’ in her report pointed out that already the mother of three daughters, Moore said that she is not old enough that she can not become a mother.

Moore said that expressed her desire to be pregnant to her husband Kutcher. Interestingly, Moore has three daughters from her former husband famous Hollywood actor Bruce Willis.

Ghaziabad Police foil abduction, gang rape attempt

Ghaziabad, September 02: Prompt police action foiled an attempt to abduct and rape a 14-year-old girl here Wednesday, officials said.

The girl, a student of Class 9, was on her way home after school hours Wednesday afternoon when a man named Javed Khan, 21, offered to drop her home. He, however, took her to a room in the Hindon river area of Ghaziabad and called two other men – Rizwan Ahmed and Mehar Uddin – to the room, police said.
