Vessel carrying as many as 200 Haitians capsizes

Providenciales, July 28: – A vessel carrying as many as 200 Haitian migrants capsized and sank near the Turks and Caicos Islands on Monday, the U.S. Coast Guard said. One survivor said the boat struck a reef as they tried to elude police.

About 70 passengers were stranded on a reef and four bodies were recovered, said Petty Officer Third Class Sabrina Elgammal, a Coast Guard spokeswoman in Miami. The rest of the passengers were missing and feared dead.

“Our main goal right now is just to get everybody out of the water and get medical attention for those who need it,” Elgammal said.

Three persons charred to death in fire mishap

Madurai, July 28: Three persons were charred to death and another injured in two fire mishaps at private fireworks factories near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu today. In the first mishap, three workers were charred to death when they were making crackers in a shed of a fireworks factory at Pallapatti.

Three sheds were damaged in the fire triggered by sparks caused by friction, police said. In the other fire accident at a fireworks factory in Chokkalingapuram, one person was injured.

Landslide, mishaps claim 28 lives across Nepal

Kathmandu, July 28: At least 28 people have died and 15 others gone missing due to landslide and other mishaps across Nepal, police said today. Fifteen people, including two sisters aged 12 and 14, died in a landslide due to incessant rain in Sikidim village in Sankhuwasabha district, they said.

Six passengers were killed when a bus in which they were travelling met with an accident at Dumbara in Myagdi district in north of Nepal. In a separate incident, seven pilgrims were drowned in Kamala river in southern Nepal”s Siraha district, a report in Nayapatrika daily said.

Two girls try to commit suicide

Muzaffarnagar, July 28: A girl died while another was rescued when the two allegedly jumped into a Ganga canal near Bhopa village after their families opposed their love affairs, police said today. The girls, Shikha and Kavita, jumped into the canal yesterday evening, they said, adding Kavita drowned but Shikha has been rescued.

Reliance Power raises Rs 20k cr for funding 5,000 MW projects

New Delhi, July 28: Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Power on Tuesday said it has raised over Rs 20,000 crore for funding its three projects of total capacity of 5,000 MW.

“Reliance Power has raised over Rs 20,000 crore to fund three projects aggregating 5,000 MW,” a company statement said.

This includes Rs 15,000 crore for the 4,000 MW Sasan thermal power project in Madhya Pradesh.

The company also plans to commission power projects worth 600 MW capacity during the current financial year.

Tata Motors shares up 10 pct after profit

Mumbai, July 28: Shares in Tata Motors were up more than 10 percent on Tuesday afternoon as investors who had sold the stock expecting a fall in profit had to buy it back after the company report a 58 percent rise in June quarter profit.

At 1.55 p.m. (0825 GMT), the shares were up 10.5 percent at 414.25 rupees, their highest in 10 months, while the main index was up 0.58 percent.

Rahul demands development package for Bundelkhand

New Delhi, July 28: AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday to press for the implementation of a Central government report for a package of Rs 8000 crore for development of the backward Bundelkhand region.

Indian tanks move in Sikkim after Chinese activities

New Delhi, July 28: There is trouble brewing on India-China border in Sikkim. The Indian army has moved T-72 main battle tanks to a remote area in north Sikkim after China increased patrolling in the strategic Finger Area.

China now plans to build a road through the Finger Area.

The Indian army is strengthening defences in the area by deploying heavy tanks and armoured personnel carriers. The mobilisation took place after repeated Chinese transgressions last year in the Finger Area – 1 km stretch of land in the northern tip of Sikkim that overlooks a valley called the Sora Funnel.

‘Ties with India based on mutual respect, cooperation’

Kathmandu, July 28: Nepal attaches “great importance” to its relations with India which are based on mutual respect, goodwill, understanding and cooperation, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said.

“We have very extensive, close and cordial relations with India at people’s level as well,” the Prime Minister said, addressing a function organised by the Council of World Affairs, Nepal.

He said the Himalayan country attached great importance to its relations with its immediate neighbours India and China.

Credit policy: RBI leaves key rates unchanged

Mumbai, July 28: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday left its key policy rates unchanged, in the quarterly review of its credit policy, and said there are progressive signs of economic recovery. It however warned that the overall scenario continued to be uncertain with fiscal consolidation posing a challenge.

RBI The Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR), the repo rate, as well as the reverse repo rate all stay at their current levels – 5 percent, 4.75 percent, and 3.25 percent respectively.

High calcium level in arteries predicts heart attack

London, July 28: Researchers may be able to predict future severe cardiac events in patients with known, stable coronary artery disease (CAD), by measuring calcium levels, according to a new study.

CAD is a condition in which plaque, consisting of cholesterol, calcium, fat and other substances, builds up inside the arteries that supply blood to the heart.

When plaque builds up in the coronary arteries, blood flow to the heart is reduced and may lead to arrhythmia (irregular or erratic heart beats), heart attack or heart failure.

Russia’s new vaccine from A(H1N1) flu to be tested in Aug

Moscow, July 28: Specialists plan to begin clinical testing of a new vaccine from the A(H1N1) flu by August 20, Oleg Kiselev, Head, National Flu Centre of the World health Organisation has said.

“The schedule of work to create the vaccine from the highly pathogenic A(H1N1) flu virus has been approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Development and has been complied strictly,” Kiselev said on Monday.

“The first Russians from the at-risk group will be vaccinated from the new flu before October 1,” he added.

CBI gives Omar a clean chit in sex scandal

New Delhi, July 28: The CBI on Tuesday gave a clean chit to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2006 sex scandal following allegations by an Opposition party leader in the J&K Assembly that Omar and his father, Farooq Abdullah, were involved in the scandal.

Following the allegations by PDP’s Muzaffar Hussain Baig, an emotional Omar offered to resign as CM until his name was cleared of the charges.

In its clarification, the CBI said the J&K CM’s name does not figure in the case and added that no member of the Abdullah family was involved in the scandal.

Mitchell told reporters after the talks that Washington was asking countries in the region to set the “context” for comprehensive peace negotiations between Israel and the Arab world.

• 1 Cup milk powder

• Melt ghee and fry besan in it till it starts giving a nice aroma.
• Transfer the mixture in another vessel and add milk powder.
• Make thick sugar syrup by combining water and sugar in a pot and heating them over low flame.
• Drop the fried besan mixture in the prepared sugar syrup and stir it.
