DGP SSP Yadav appears before Human Rights Commission

Hyderabad, July 07:: The Director General of Police (DGP), Mr S S P Yadav, on Tuesday attended before the State Human Rights Commission following a complaint lodged by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on Monday.

The DSP, Mr Madhava Reddy, a 1974 bath officer, has been in Vacancy Reserve (VR) – a term used for the police officials where they await posting – for the past 20 months. He was not even receiving his salary for the period, 20 months.

General budget too has failed AP, says Chiru

Students insulted, commit suicide

Hyderabad, July 07: Two girl students consumed poison and one of them died after their principal allegedly insulted them for coming late to the college, police said Wednesday. Ramya, a pharmacy student, died while undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital in Warangal town Tuesday while her classmate is battling for her life. The incident took place in Yellapur in Hasanparti Mandal in Warangal district.

The two students of B. Pharmacy resorted to the extreme step after the principal of St. Johns College allegedly scolded them before other students for coming late, a police officer said.

Task Force foils bid to murder realtor

Hyderabad, July 07: TASK Force sleuths on Monday apprehended a notorious criminal and foiled a conspiracy to kill a realtor.

According to the police, the realtor, Prakash Goud, bought a fiveacre land at Balaji Nagar in Yapral in Secunderabad from one Abhishekaramma and Sukumari, who are the legal heirs of original owner M Vivekamma of Musheerabad.

Round table held on private school fees

Hyderabad, July 07: The concerned parents, who organised a round table on the fee hike in private schools, have criticised the Fee Regulatory Committee alleging that it was not committed to solving the burning problem.

The members of the Parents Associations’ Co-ordination Committee at a press conference on Monday remarked that the issue was not dealt with commitment by the five-member committee and there was no representation from the parents on the committee.

Garbage piles up as workers go on strike

Hyderabad, July 07: Heaps of garbage got piled up across Greater Hyderabad as workers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) went on strike on Monday demanding abrogation of the agreement between the GHMC and Ramky Enviro Engineers on the Integrated Solid Waste Management Project (ISWM).

While union leaders claimed that strike was a total success as nobody attended the sanitation works, GHMC Commissioner SP Singh said that garbage lifting was affected partially.

Police asked to probe complaint against John Abraham

New Delhi, July 07: Bollywood star John Abraham could be in trouble as a city court Tuesday asked Delhi police to file a report on a complaint seeking registration of a criminal case against him for posing allegedly nude in a photograph published in a daily.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ashish Aggarwal directed the station house officer (SHO) of the Moti Nagar police station to submit the report to the court within two weeks.

2 minors killed in road mishap

Pathankot, July 07: Two children were crushed to death while their parents had a narrow escape here today when a truck hit their scooter from backside, police said. Seven-year-old Anshu and her brother Ketan (3) were killed on the spot while their parents Naik Arun Kumar, an army jawan from Hoshiarpur, and his wife escaped narrowly, they said, adding the driver of the truck managed to escape after the accident.

The truck has been impounded and a case has been registered against the driver.

Rome, July 07: On the eve of the summit of Group of eight industrialised countries(G-8), Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a strong pitch for UN Security Council reforms saying its present structure posed “serious problems of legitimacy.”

In the backof bids by India and countries like Japan and Germany to be made a permanent member of United Nation’s highest policy making body, Singh said the Security Council has not changed at all and its two-tiered membership where five permanent members have veto power was “clearly anachronistic.”

Undertrial criminal Habeeb Ahmed escapes from Nampally court premises

Hyderabad, July 07: An undertrial escaped from Nampally court premises where he was to be produced in connection with an attempt to murder case, police
said.

The undertrial identified as Habib Ahmed was arrested in a case of attempt to murder by Mirchowk and Moghalpura police about three months ago and was lodged at Chanchalguda jail, they said.

Ahmed who was brought alongwith three other accused to the court this afternoon was to be produced before an Additional Metropolitan magistrate, but fled immediately after his handcuffs were removed, police said.

Forensic expert deposes in 26/11 terror attack case

Mumbai, July 07: The prosecution in 26/11 terror attack case today examined a forensic expert who had conducted post-mortem on bodies of 20 people, including slain terrorist Abu Ismael.

Lone surviving Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab and Ismael had killed 72 people including senior police officials.

The doctor, who had conducted post-mortems, was examined as witnesses because Kasab’s lawyer Abbas Kazmi did not submit post-mortem reports. So the prosecution had to examine witnesses to prove that people died because of bullets fired by the terrorists.

Cardiff, July 07: Australia captain Ricky Ponting wants his inexperienced pace attack to make their mark in Ashes history after fast bowler Brett Lee was ruled out of the first cricket Test against England.

Murder case against cops involved in Ranbir’s encounter

Dehradun, July 07: A case of murder was registered against police officials involved in the killing of MBA graduate Ranbir Singh in an alleged fake encounter as pressure mounted on the BJP government in Uttarkhand today to order a CBI probe.

The FIRs under section 302 (murder) IPC was lodged following a murder case against 14 police personnel registered by Ranbir’s father Ravindra Pal Singh in Raipur police station late last night, official sources said here today, four days after the incident on Friday.

Abhaya case: CDs original, says CBI

Kochi, July 07: The compact discs containing the narco analysis test of the three accused in Sister Abhaya case that were produced before courts were original, according to CBI.

The submission in this regard was made by the investigating agency before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court, Ernakulam, here yesterday. The CBI informed the court that the CDs produced in the Kerala High Court and CJM court were original ones and they had not been manipulated.

Railway land to be leased to boost PPP: Mamata

New Delhi, July 07: Keen to increase earnings, Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she intends to give a boost to public-private partnership and will give Railway land on lease for infrastructure development.

Intervening in the Lok Sabha during debate on Railway Budget 2009-10, she said her main thrust would be on “core” activities regarding which a monitoring mechanism was being set up. “One additional official will be deputed for that purpose.”

Meeting Muslims, senior German affirms need for religion

Regensburg, July 07: German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble praised religious values as an antidote to the world economic crisis, at a meeing with Muslim leaders Monday. “The crisis has demonstrated what happens when values are no longer followed,” he told the seminar in the town hall of the southern German city of Regensburg.

The meeting was a continuation of three years of official consultations between the government and Islamic leaders on how to ease friction and offer Islam classes in public schools to Muslim pupils.
