Mumbai, June 30: Shiney applies for bail even as forensic report on Monday confirmed that the semen sample taken from maid’s body matches the star’s DNA

The Forensic Science Laboratory at Kalina on Monday confirmed that the semen sample in the vaginal swab of the maid who alleged rape, matched with the DNA of the accused, actor Shiney Ahuja.

Regardless, Shiney moved the Sessions Court last week for bail on the ground that “he is from a good family” and that some of his films are only half done and “need to be completed”.

Madoff gets max 150 yrs in prison

New York, June 30: Bernard Madoff has been sentenced to the maximum 150 years in prison for his multibillion-dollar fraud scheme.

US District Judge Denny Chin handed down the sentence in New York today.

Defense attorneys had sought 12 years, while prosecutors wanted the maximum. The federal probation department had recommended 50 years.

Chin called the fraud “staggering” and noted that it spanned more than 20 years. He says “the breach of trust was massive.”

Top Manipuri actress arrested for terror links

Imphal, June 30: Popular Manipuri actress Urikhinbam Devita was arrested by police on charges of terror links after she was caught from a hotel room in New Delhi with a top separatist leader, police said here Tuesday.

A police spokesperson said the award winning 24-year-old film star was arrested from Imphal airport Monday evening upon her return from New Delhi.

“Devita was arrested and is being interrogated,” the official said without elaborating on the nature of her crime.

Haj passports without police verification: Centre

New Delhi, June 30: To ease issuance of temporary passports to Haj pilgrims, the Centre has decided to do away with police verification of those planning to go to the holy city of Mecca to perform Haj.

The Haj Committee of India today said the decision to this effect came after two meetings in Delhi and Bangalore on June eight and ten, chaired by N Ravi, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs.

The issue of Haj passport for Saudi Arabia will be valid for eight months only and this will not be renewed.

No bail for Satyam auditors: HC

Hyderabad, June 30: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday dismissed the bail petitions of the former auditors of the scam-hit Satyam Computer Services.

The auditors — S Gopalakrishnan and Srinivas Talluri — are co-accused in the multi-crore accounting scandal at Satyam and are currently lodged at the central prison in Hyderabad.

Lahore, June 30: MQM chief Altaf Hussain has said the Partition of India in 1947 weakened Muslims, as it divided their power.

In an interview with Najam Sethi on Duniya News, Altaf said there would have been no Partition had the Congress accepted Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s 14 points.

Altaf said few people knew that even Allama Iqbal had not demanded a separate Pakistan in his famous Allahabad address in 1930. “He had, in fact, demanded the creation of Muslim states in the Muslim-majority areas,” he said, adding that Iqbal’s son justice (retired) Javed Iqbal could confirm this.
