1 dead, 15 hurt as bus falls off NH-24 flyover

New Delhi, June 25: At least one person died and 15 others were injured when a chartered bus carrying over 40 passengers fell off a flyover near Mother Dairy on NH-24 on Wednesday evening.

While the police said only the bus driver had died, Deputy Medical Superintendent of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital Dr Amita Saxena said two persons were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Three of the victims, admitted in another private hospital in Patparganj, are said to be critical.

The police officers suspect a brake failure caused the 15-foot plunge.

Director Rohit Shetty says, “Veer is a guitarist and Fardeen wanted the character to look realistic. So, we hired Subi from Mumbai to come on the set and train him.” Subi is one of the lead guitarists of a rock band.

Saif chooses Kareena rather than Deepika

Mumbai, June 25:On Wednesday evening, Deepika Padukone, heroine of Saif Ali Khan’s home production Love Aaj Kal, made an appearance on Salman Khan’s 10 Ka Dum, to promote the film. Saif Ali Khan was to join her but begged off saying he was abroad and therefore unavailable.

US troops ready to withdraw from Iraqi cities

Baghdad, June 25: US combat troops will pull out from Iraq’s cities and main towns as the war-torn country takes sole charge of security in a major stepping stone to a complete American withdrawal.

Most American troops will retreat to their main bases and only re-enter urban areas if the Iraqi security forces ask for their support in tackling unrest or conducting other operations.

Formal ceremonies will take place on Monday but the government has declared the official departure day a national holiday.

US governor affair with an Argentinian woman

Washington, June 25: The governor of the US state of South Carolina, who had been missing for a week, finally turned up Wedensday and admitted to an affair with an Argentinian woman.

Mark Sanford, a Republican, vanished June 18 without telling either his family or staff where he was headed. In a press conference after his return Wednesday morning, Sanford said he went to Buenos Aires to end an affair with an Argentinian woman.

“The bottom line is this: I’ve been unfaithful to my wife,” Sanford said with tears in his eyes. “I hurt my wife, I hurt my boys.”

230 acres of Wakf land didn’t get the compenstion amount

Hyderabad, June 25: The Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board was yet to get the due compensation for its 230 acres of prime land in Visakhapatnam allotted to the two pubic sector companies Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd and the National Thermal Power Corporation.

It was part of the 5307 acres of land under the Dargah of Hazrat Ishaque Madani, after whom the city was initially named as Ishaquepatanam and later it became Visakhapatnam

NRI litigant throws acid on High Court lawyers in court room

London, June 25: A non-resident Indian litigant threw acid at three lawyers after a High Court ruling went against him in a racial discrimination case, a jury heard today.

Ashok Mahajan, 54, went berserk inside the Royal Courts of Justice here as justice Underhill delivered the ruling against him.

Mahajan threw a bottle of corrosive liquid at barrister Richard Liddell, solicitor Claire White and trainee lawyer Lucy Colter, the Southwark Crown Court heard.

Colter screamed in pain when she was hit in the eyes and acid that landed on her leg burned her thighs, the court heard.

No restrictions at Arthur Road jail, gangsters take leave at will

Pune, June 25: A highly confidential inquiry report by the Maharashtra prison department has revealed that several key undertrials, including Mohammad Dossa, underworld don-turned-politician Arun Gawli and DK Rao (the right-hand man of fugitive gangster Chhota Rajan), among others, freely availed of “leave” out of the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai over the last three years.

The jail authorities neither reported the leave granted to these high-profile undertrials to senior prison authorities, nor did they raise objections to the leave applications in court.

Pakistan using Sarabjit to bargain with India

New Delhi, June 25:Pakistan Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh’s review petition challenging his death sentence in the 1990 Lahore bomb blast case. The petition was rejected by a three -member bench of Pakistan’s Supreme Court on the grounds of non-pursuance of the case by his lawyer. Sarabjit’s lawyer Rana Abdul Hamid was not present on Wednesday despite a directive to him. The lawyer was also absent for the last hearing on Monday.

Talking to CNN-IBN Hamid said that he would file another appeal on Sarabjit’s behalf.

Pilgrims, both Hindu and Muslim, are thronging the shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer for his 797th annual Urs or death anniversary, which is not treated as a sad occasion but a celebration of the soul’s union with god.

US Missiles Turn Pakistan Funeral to Grave

Miramshah, June 25: Wrapped in white bandages and lying on a bed in the dust-bowed district hospital in Miramshah, the capital of North Waziristan, Fazl-e-Rabbi is one of who lucky enough to survive a US deadly missile strike at a funeral ceremony in neighboring South Waziristan a day earlier.

“We had just finished the funeral prayers and I was wearing my shoes when I felt that the sun had exploded on my head,” Fazl-e-Rabbi, who received injuries in his arms, legs and lower abdomen, told.
