London,October 05 : The Taj Mahal will collapse within five years unless urgent action is taken to fix its rotting foundations, campaigners warn.

The 358-year-old marble mausoleum is India’s most famous tourist attraction, bringing four million visitors a year to the northern city of Agra.

But the river crucial to its survival is being blighted by pollution, industry and deforestation.

Campaigners believe the foundations have become brittle and are disintegrating.

Man arrested for looting 4000 Investors

New Delhi, October 04 : A 58-year-old man was arrested here for cheating around 4,000 people across India by inducing them to make investments in his company, police said Monday.

Akhtar Ansari, resident of Pant Nagar in south Delhi, was arrested Sunday, Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhry said, adding they had received a total of 465 complaints against him already and more were coming in.

Ansari created a website of ‘Anjak Overseas’, which claimed that his family ‘has been a major business group in British Colombia (Canada) for 30 years’.

Hardoi,October 01:Yoga guru Ramdev has said that had he not fled from the Ramlila ground in Delhi during the police crackdown in the wee hours on June 5, he too would have met the same fate as Rajbala.

In reply to a question from one of his followers in Hardoi on Friday, Ramdev claimed he would have been killed had he not fled from the Ramlila maidan.

“I would not have been here among you had I not fled that day,” he said. Ramdev is currently undertaking a ‘Swabhiman Yatra’ and is touring various districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The body of the infant was later recovered by the hospital staff and relatives.

Chidambaram should be in Jail

New Delhi,September 26 : Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said home minister P Chidambaram should be in jail for his alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.

“The proof against Chidambaram is overwhelming. He should be in jail with A Raja,” BJP leader Yashwant Sinha told reporters here.

He also said the prime minister acted on Chidambaram’s advice on the 2G spectrum allocation, and his silence showed his approval.

Chidambaram was the finance minister at the time the spectrum was allocated in 2008.

Jagjit Singh critical in ICCU

Mumbai,September 24 : Renowned ghazal singer Jagjit Singh was admitted to a hospital here today after he suffered a brain hemorrhage and is in a critical state, doctors attending to him said.
Doctors at the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra performed a life-saving surgery on him, hospital sources said.

Singh (70) is under observation and is stated to be in critical condition, they said. Sources also say a medical bulletin will be released on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Singh was admitted just hours before he was to perform with another Ghazal maestro, Ghulam Ali in Mumbai.

Bhopal, September 23: The funeral procession of late former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi began from his home here with sobbing family members, friends and several celebrities paying their last respects before his burial which will be held on Friday in Pataudi.

The former captain, who would forever be remembered for leading India to their maiden Test series triumph abroad, died on Thursday due to a lung infection at the age of 70.

New Delhi,September 20 :Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has written a letter to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas assuring him of India’s “full support” for his country’s bid for statehood at the UN.

“India has always supported the Palestinian people in their pursuit of legitimate goals and for development with dignity and self reliance. I assure you of India’s full support in the United Nations,” Singh wrote in the letter to Abbas.
