More than 254 BSF suicides in eight years

New Delhi ,January 10 :AS MANY as 254 Border Security Force ( BSF) men, who guard our sensitive frontiers with Pakistan and Bangladesh, committed suicide in the past eight years because of high occupational stress.

This has been revealed by a report prepared by the Bureau of Police Research and Development ( BPR& D), under the aegis of the home ministry.

PM: 42% Malnutrition childrens, National shame

New Delhi,January 10: India has the highest number of stunted children in the world. Almost 42 per cent of the children in the country numbering over 61 million are malnourished and stunted according to the Hunger and Malnutrition Report released by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The report says that one in three malnourished children in the world is an Indian.

In a recent research conducted by scientists at DRDO’s (Defence Research Development Organization) Institute of Nuclear Medicines and Allied Sciences and Department of Radiobiology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, the scientists have successfully tested tulsi extracts on mice for its anti-radiation and anti-cancer properties. The DRDO is spending Rs.7 crore on the tulsi project.

World is heading towards severe Financial crises: Soros

Bangalore, January 10: INDIA along with other developing economies will be ‘ less affected’ by the global financial crisis, said legendary US investor George Soros on Monday and warned that the European crisis may lead to an economic ‘ meltdown worse than 2008’. “ The financial crisis will largely hit Europe and the developed countries ( this time). There has been a rise of the developing economies and they have seen a tremendous shift. So, the developing economies would be less affected,” said Soros, adding that the rate of growth may decline in these economies.

Lahore 3 girls die in Atif Aslam Show

Lahore,January 10 :At least three young girls were killed and dozens more injured in a stampede after a concert by singer Atif Aslam at an arts complex in Lahore on Monday, officials said.

A large number of students of the Punjab College of Commerce had come to witness the concert at Alhamra Cultural Complex.

The stampede occurred when private security guards used batons to push back a group of girls who rushed towards Aslam to get his autograph, police said.

Team ANNA in poll mode ?

New Delhi,January 10:Anti-graft activist Anna Hazare is likely to announce on Tuesday that his team will campaign for a strong lokpal bill in four of the five states bound for assembly elections in the coming weeks but will not name any political party.
The states where Team Anna is planning to campaign

are Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa. The fifth state, Manipur, has been left out.
A decision to this effect was taken by Team Anna’s core committee, which met here on Monday to discuss the next course of action.

Modi skips questions on Minorities

jaipur,January 09 :Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today parried a question by a delegate at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on why his “attitude towards minorities” does not change though he talks of achieving inclusive growth in his state.

“Vayalar (Ravi) ji will answer (the question),” Modi merely said when the delegate posed the query to him.

Intervening, Ravi said, “This is not the platform to ask questions on leaders. Please restrict your questions to the issues like investments.”

Jaipur, January 08: Fulfilling the long-standing demand of its diaspora, India Sunday said it would allow Non-resident Indians (NRIs) to vote and participate in the election process.

“Pursuant to the law that was enacted to enable Non-resident Indians to vote in our national elections, the government has issued notifications for registration of overseas electors under the Representation of People Act, 1950,” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said.

Hyderabad, January 08: YSR Congress party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s aide and party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu Sunday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Emaar-APIIC township scam.Rambabu, who was chairman of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) from 2005 to 2007, appeared before CBI officials at Dilkusha guest house.

The CBI has summoned him under section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code to record his statement.

Mullah Omar talking peace with US

Kabul, January 06 : The elusive Afghan Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, who had called on his warriors last November to continue the war against NATO-led forces in Afghanistan, has now confirmed having opened peace talks with the US authorities, Geo News reported.

The one-eyed Omar, who has escaped the US manhunt since his regime was ousted in late 2001, made two demands — release of Afghan prisoners from Guantanamo Bay detention facility and complete pullout of US-led forces from Afghanistan, the report added.

Nearly 3,000 jailed for drunken driving in Delhi

New Delhi, January 06: In one of the biggest crackdowns on drunken driving in the last few years, more than 18,000 drivers were prosecuted and nearly 3,000 jailed in 2011, Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said Friday.

Addressing the annual press conference of Delhi Police, Gupta said that “18,073 people were prosecuted in 2011 whereas the figure was 11,388 in 2010.”

“Driving licenses of 2,212 people were suspended and 2,960 offenders were imprisoned,” he added.

According to Gupta, the prosecutions were an “all time high”.

Every fifth murder in Delhi sexually motivated: Police

New Delhi, January 06: Every fifth murder in the capital is sexually motivated, Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said Friday.

Addressing the annual press conference of the Delhi Police, Gupta said: “According to the latest data, 18 percent of murders in Delhi are sex-related. Other prominent reasons for murders are sudden provocation and crime-related.”

According to Gupta, family disputes were found to be behind only nine percent of murders. Enmity and disputes were the other chief motives during 2011.

Then he put the metal-filled activated carbon in a muffle furnace and extracted 65 milligrams of gold at a temperature of 1,100 degrees Celsius, the Shanghai Morning Post reported Wednesday.
