New Delhi,January 29 :A CITY court on Saturday sentenced five men to life imprisonment for raping a mentally challenged 17- year- old girl for three days. Additional sessions judge Kamini Lau, terming the rapists “ inhuman” and “ barbaric”, observed they had given a “ lifelong trauma” to the victim and her family.

New Delhi, January 29 :Falak was found fourdays ago in New delhi battered and abondaned is still struggling for survival.The condition of the battered two-year-old baby in Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center, AIIMS, is critical but stable. But doctors say there is a high chance that she may remain in a vegetative state even if she survives.

“The child’s condition is the same as it was on Friday. She is stable but critical. It has been a day since she was taken off the ventilator,” said Dr Deepak Aggarwal, associate professor, Neurosurgery, JPNATC.

New Delhi,January 28:A minaret of the famed Taj Mahal has recorded a tilt of 3.57 cm in three decades but overall there is no significant change in heights of points lying on the main structure of the monument.

This has been revealed in an affidavit filed by the Archaeological Survey of India in the Supreme Court which had issued a direction in this regard in December last year.

London, January 26: (IANS) The number of house-husbands and women turning the main breadwinner of families is on the rise in Britain, a new study says.

It says that the number of house-husbands in Britain has tripled over the last 15 years. Last year, 62,000 men whose partners went out to work were classed as “economically inactive” compared to just 21,000 in 1996, the Daily Mail reported.

This follows on from a recent survey which also found that there are 1.4 million men across Britain whose main role is of being the primary carer for their children.

CBI sniffs at Jagan’s link with Emaar realty scam

Hyderabad,January 26:THE CBI is probing a possible link between the alleged illegal assets case involving Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy and the multi- crore Emaar township scam in Hyderabad.

Sources revealed that the arrest of N. Sunil Reddy, a relative and personal assistant of Jaganmohan on Tuesday in connection with the Emaar case has provided some clues that point to this link. Sunil was produced in the special CBI court on Wednesday and it directed him to judicial remand till February 1.

Mumbai,January 24 : TAKING a serious view of the Maharashtra ATS claim of having worked out the 13/ 7 serial blasts in Mumbai, home minister P. Chidambaram on Monday called up state agency chief Rakesh Maria and demanded to know the basis of his assertion.

The call came minutes after Maria made the claim at a hurriedly convened press conference in Mumbai and the special cell of the Delhi Police reportedly complained to Chidambaram that among the Maharashtra ATS “ catches” was Naqi Ahmed Sheikh, who was actually helping police nab Yasin Bhatkal and unravel the blast conspiracy.

Turkey to train 500 Afghan police officers

Kabul, January 21: Turkey will train 500 Afghan police officers, Interior Minister Basmillah Mohammadi said Saturday.

Fivehundred more officers will be trained in Turkey in the near future, he added.

Mohammadi was speaking at an award ceremony for officers who recently came back from Turkey after completing their course, Xinhua reported.

The government has stepped up efforts to train and equip Afghan police and the army as the NATO-led forces have handed over the security responsibilities of several areas in the country to the Afghan authorities.
