Magnet bomb and foreign hand in Delhi blast

The sticky bomb used in the terror attack on the Israeli embassy car was used for the first time in India and could have been made by foreign experts, a senior police official said.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said a sophisticated incendiary palm-size device was used in the blast, a first of its kind in a terror attack in India.

“This has been giving officials cause for concern that the bomb was perfectly made and we have never seen such a bomb in Delhi. Maybe, it was made by foreign experts,” said Gupta.

Police searching for red-coloured bomber bike

Investigators are searching for a red-coloured bike that the bomber used while targeting the car of an Israeli embassy official in a terror attack Monday, Delhi Police Chief B.K. Gupta said Tuesday.

Gupta said police were appealing to the public through the media for information on the bike and if they come across any abandoned red-coloured bike.

The people who man parking lots in Delhi and NCR, including markets, metro stations and railway stations, have been asked to inform police about any suspicious looking bike, especially of red colour, he said.

35 law-breakers held in Pakistan

At least 35 people involved in gambling, liquor trade, drug trafficking and car theft were arrested Tuesday in a massive police operation in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Attock police arrested 14 gamblers and recovered around Rs.10,000 from them near Kot Dadu village.

Two were held for keeping illegal pistols, Khalid Zaman while five were arrested for possession of narcotics, the Online news agency reported.

Bahter police arrested two people for illicit liquor trade and one was arrested for possessing an illegal revolver.

Shah Rukh agrees to be West Bengal brand ambassador

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has formally accepted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s proposal to become the state’s brand ambassador.

Sources said Shah Rukh’s acceptance came in the form of a letter to the chief minister.

India, Pakistan agree to dismantle trade barriers

India and Pakistan are committed to dismantling all non-tariff barriers to boost bilateral trade and strengthen business and economic relations, commerce ministers of the two countries said Monday.

Police rescue 25 minor girls from Bihar fair

Police rescued 25 minor girls who were forced to dance naked at a theatre in a rural fair near the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar’s Araria district and arrested 44 people under human trafficking charges during a raid, police Monday said.

Araria Superintendent of Police Shivdeep Lande said that minor girls were forced to dance naked, not only for entertainment but to “attract good buyers” from outside the state.

“Police have been investigating it by interrogating rescued the minor girls and arrested people,” Lande said.

YSR party wants by-polls in one go

With Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker taking no decision on their disqualification, 17 rebel legislators of the ruling Congress Monday urged the Election Commission to hold by-elections to 24 assembly seats in one go.

In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, the legislators loyal to YSR Congress demanded that balloting to seven vacant assembly seats be deferred till the speaker decides on their disqualification.

Seven assembly seats fell vacant late last year due to the resignation of the members. Election to these seats are due on or before April 30.

Gilani indicted for contempt

Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was Monday indicted by the Supreme Court for refusing to reopen corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. Gilani, who pleaded innocence, could be jailed for six months or even lose office if convicted.
