Top Pakistani official urges India to resume talks

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s advisor on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz has urged India to start the foreign secretary-level talks for resolving various issues, media reported on Sunday.

Aziz, at a seminar titled Muslim-Sikh Dosti Di Tarjman – Baisakhi here, said on Saturday that the Pakistani foreign ministry wondered why India cancelled the talks on its own without consulting Pakistan, Dawn online reported.

Though the new Indian foreign secretary, S. Jaishankar, visited Pakistan on March 3 this year as a goodwill gesture, formal talks were yet to resume, he added.

Iran, Afghanistan join hands against drug trafficking, terrorism

Iran and Afghanistan have agreed to cooperate against illicit drug trafficking and the perils of terrorism in the region, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday.

“Concerning the issue of narcotics, which is a menace beleaguering the region, including Iran and Afghanistan, we agreed to have intelligence and security cooperation to counter drug trafficking rings,” Rouhani said in joint press conference with his visiting Afghani counterpart Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.

Kate Winslet has admitted that her boobs were out of control and were growing bigger while shooting ‘ A Little Chaos’ as she was pregnant.

The ‘Titanic’ actress revealed in an interview that it was difficult for her to keep a check on her peeping boobs and she used to deliberately splatter mud on them just to make them look normal, the Daily Star reported.

South African President Zuma vows to end xenophobic attacks

While visiting a refugee camp in the port of Durban after a fresh outbreak of anti-foreigner violence, South African President Jacob Zuma has vowed to bring an end to xenophobic attacks in the country.

Zuma told those who had fled the violence that it went against South African values, reported the BBC.

However, he was jeered by some in the crowd who accused him of acting too slowly.

About six people have been killed in xenophobic attacks in Durban, with violence spreading to other areas.

Bengaluru citizens call for timely civic poll

Hundreds of local residents on Sunday urged the Karnataka government to hold free, fair and timely civic elections to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as directed by the high court.

“The state government should not play politics but respect the constitution and the high court, which has directed it to hold the civic poll in the 198 wards across the city by May 30,” Namma Bengaluru Foundation chief executive Sridhar Pabbisetty said.

Police nab two accused of uploading sex video in Odisha

IANS) Two people involved in uploading a sex video onto the internet leading to a minor girl committing suicide in Odisha’s Cuttack district have been arrested, police said on Sunday.

The 15-year-old girl, who belonged to Nemala village (70-80 km from here), committed suicide on Wednesday night after coming to know that a sex video featuring her with the prime accused had been uploaded on the internet.

Treasure salvaged from 73-year-old sunken ship

A British-led team salvaged silver coins worth $50 million onboard a ship that sunk in 1942 in South Atlantic while heading to Britain from India, media reported on Wednesday.

The SS City of Cairo sank about 770 km south of the South Atlantic island of St. Helena after being struck by a torpido from a German U-boat during the World War II. The ship was carrying 100 tonnes of silver coins in black boxes to help fund the war effort, BBC reported.

Delhi Literature Festival begins on Friday

The third edition of the Delhi Literature Festival, which will begin here on April 17, will see discussions on books, authors and anything related to literature, the organisers said on Thursday.

Former IMF chief Rato arrested on fraud charges

The former Spanish Deputy Prime Minister, Rodrigo Rato, who was also the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund was arrested on charges of fraud, concealment of assets and money laundering.

Rato, who was also the President of Bankia, which needed a government bailout of almost 24 billion US dollars in May 2012, was detained on Thursday afternoon at his Madrid residence after agents on the instructions of a judge had searched it, Xinhua reported.

Iran nuclear talks to resume on April 22

The European Union (EU) announced on Thursday that Iran and the P5+1 group would resume talks on the Iranian nuclear issue on April 22 in Austrian capital Vienna.

“The E3/EU+3 (P5+1) and Iran will continue work towards a comprehensive solution to the Iranian nuclear issue based on the key understandings reached in Switzerland on April 2,” the EU said in a press release, according to Spanish news agency EFE.

Geelani , Masrat put under house arrest in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir authorities here on Thursday night placed hardline separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Masrat Alam under house arrest.

“To maintain law and order, Geelani has been out under house arrest in his Hyderpora residence in the city,” a senior police officer told IANS in Srinagar.

Geelani, according to sources, had been planning to visit the south Kashmir’s Tral town on Friday where a civilian was killed in firing by the security forces three days ago.
