We want India-Pakistan cricket series: Sports minister Sonowal

he government on Sunday said it was in favour of a proposed India-Pakistan bilateral cricket series that would promote friendship between the neighbouring nations.

“As a sports minister, my main objective is to promote sports. For better friendship and relationship, we want the series to take place,” union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal told media persons on the sidelines of a function here.

However, he said a lot of issues remain to be addressed before the series could become a reality.

“There are a lot of issues to be addressed, that’s a different part.”

Bahrain protests Khamenei statements, summons Iranian envoy

Bahrain on Sunday summoned an Iranian envoy to express its rejection of the recent statements made by Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

During the meeting with Iranian Chargé d’Affaires to Bahrain Mohammad Reza Babaei, the foreign ministry’s under-secretary Abdulla Abdullatif said the statements “are not only unacceptable but also a blatant interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain”.

Indian born in New Zealand wins competition against racism

An India-born teen’s prescription to combat racism has earned her the title in the national Race Unity Speech Competition in New Zealand.

Kimberly D’Mello, a class 12 student at Tauranga’s Aquinas College, in the North Island, won the competition at Te Mahurehure Marae in Pt Chevalier, Auckland on Saturday night, the online Stuff reported on Sunday.

D’Mello, who was born in India but raised in New Zealand, made it through regional finals, heats and then the final eight at the speech competition to win NZ$1,000 for her school and NZ$1,000 for herself.

Couple caught having ‘porn movie’ like sex in family park

A couple from Wanstead, London is making news for having a “full-on porn movie” like sex in a family park.

A naked couple, who was having sex in a Wanstead park in full view of families, was split up by police after a local councillor reported them, the Independent reported.

Councillor Colin Cronin described the duo as going “at it at full pelt” rather than “just a bit of petting” and local shopkeepers were reportedly whistling and cheering them.

Sign treaties to deport immigrants, Assam appeals to Modi

Political parties and non-political groups in Assam on Sunday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the initiative for signing repatriation treaties with Bangladesh and Nepal in order to deport illegal migrants and solve the state’s long pending problem of foreigners.

The appeal was made after a convention here on Sunday, where the groups pledged their support for update of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) 1951 in Assam.

The process for update of the NRC, with March 24, 1971 as the cut-off date has begun in the state following a Supreme Court order in December.

Woman gang-raped in Delhi

A 25-year-old woman was gang-raped by five men in Defence Colony area here on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

Out of the five accused, police have arrested three while two are still absconding.

The arrested were identified as Akash (23), Deepak (20) and Aman (26).

One Rohit, who was in the car when the woman was kidnapped but did not rape her, was also arrested, police said.

IANS) Recalling the Kargil conflict of 1999 between India and Pakistan, former military strongman Pervez Musharraf on Sunday said New Delhi would never be able to forget the three-month-long battle when his armed forces “grabbed India by the throat”.

“There was a second line force, too, which caught India by the throat and that was latter given the status of an army,” Geo News reported citing Musharraf as saying while addressing a function of his All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) political party.

Assocham gives 7 on 10 for Modi’s first year report card

Nepal has estimated that around $10 billion worth of damage been caused by the April 25 great earthquakes and the subsequent aftershocks that rattled the Himalayan nation.

Deport Sunny Leone, demands Hindu group

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on Friday demanded the deportation of former porn star Sunny Leone and barring her future entry into India for displaying what it terms vulgarity on her website and insulting the dignity of women.

The HJS lodged a first information report (FIR) with Sunil Shivarkar, head of Ramnagar police station in Dombivali in Thane, said HJS spokesman Uday Dhuri.

India’s goods exports shrink, gold imports nearly double

In a worrying start for this fiscal, India’s merchandise exports declined sharply by 14 percent in April and stood at $22.05 billion due mainly to the overall conditions in the global market, while gold imports shot up by 85 percent.

The exports contracted from $25.63 billion during April 2014.

According to the data on exports and imports released by the Minister of Commerce and Industry on Friday, the trade deficit for April this year stood at $11 billion, against $10.08 billion during the like month of the previous year.

5 Encroached Temples Along Rail Line to be Cleared

The authorities are readying to clear five temples on the railway land between Malleswaram and Yeshwantpur railway stations.

This follows the issuance of a summons from the Upa Lokayukta a fortnight ago, asking the Bangalore Division of the Railways why it had not initiated steps to clear the encroachments. Upa Lokayukta Justice S B Majage said, “I have asked them to initiate action in this connection.”

748 percent rise in pakistan terror deaths over 10 years

Pakistan’s rising graph of terrorism-related deaths shows no sign of slowing, with 43 people dead and 20 injured when six motorcycle-borne terrorists raked a bus with automatic gunfire in the Pakistani port city of Karachi on Wednesday.

Terrorism-related deaths in Pakistan increased 748.15 percent between 2005 and 2014. Over the same period, India saw a 70 percent decline in terrorism-related deaths.

As many as 56,480 people have been killed in Pakistan since 2005, at an average of nearly 14 a day.

Bengaluru airport to have self check-in, baggage handling systems

Passengers flying out of Kempegowda International airport here will no longer have to stand in long queues for check-in as the airport operator plans to implement a system that allows passengers to print their own boarding passes as well as baggage tags from next month.

The private airport operator, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has signed a seven-year, multi-million dollar contract in this regard with the global aviation IT firm SITA to implement such a system.

The new system is expected to be operational from next month, a release by SITA said today.

Hours after a delegation of Shiv Sena MPs met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to register their opposition to the upcoming 9,900 MW Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project (JNPP), Yuva Sena president Aditya Thackeray on Wednesday vowed that the party would not deviate from its stance and continue opposing the project.

“Nuclear energy is neither clean, nor green and its waste has no proper form of disposal after decades of its use world over,” Thackeray said in a series of tweets on the JNPP coming up in Ratnagiri in coastal Maharashtra.
