European Council announces emergency summit over Greece

European Council President Donald Tusk announced that an emergency Euro zone summit over Greece would be held on Monday.

“In light of the outcome of the Eurogroup meeting today (Thursday), I have decided to convene a Euro summit on Monday. It is time to urgently discuss the situation of Greece at the highest political level,” he said, Xinhua reported.

Tusk made the remarks after the Eurogroup meeting in Luxembourg ended without a deal over Greece’ debt issue.

Shock and anger engulfed America as police nabbed a white young man who killed nine people at a historic African-American church in Charleston in South Carolina, saying he was there “to shoot black people”.

The FBI identified the suspect in Wednesday night’s deadly shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston as 21-year-old Dylann Roof of Lexington, South Carolina, as police searched the region on Thursday.

Police arrested Roof in Shelby in North Carolina, a town east of Charlotte and just north of the South Carolina state line after a massive manhunt.

‘Big Hero 6’ like blow-up robot with ‘penis’ pic goes viral on internet

An image of a blow up robot, similar to one featured in the Oscar winning animated flick ‘Big Hero 6,’ with an addition of a “penis,” has gone viral on the net.

Internet users were left in hysterics after coming across this image, which shows a robot toy, which when inflated shows a penis-like part, the Mirror has reported.

However, it is unclear if the toy was a cheeky joke by manufacturers, or an obvious yet innocent blunder. (ANI)

Red burger’ by Japanese Burger King

As if black wasn’t a bit weird enough, Burger King Japan is now introducing a new burger in bright red color.

Called “Aka Samurai Chicken,” the sandwich has red buns, bright red cheese and a red sauce made from miso and hot pepper, and will be launched on July 3, priced at 4.40 dollars, reported E! Online.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the food chain had used tomato powder in its buns and cheese to give the bright red color.

They are also offering an Aka Samurai Beef burger.

13 dead after consuming spurious liquor in Mumbai

At least 13 people, including a woman, were killed and seven others reported to be battling for life after consuming suspected spurious liquor at a bar in Mumbai’s suburban Malavani area, police said on Thursday.

The victims had consumed the country liquor at a bar in Rathodi village on Wednesday night, and started showing symptoms of poisonous effects since Thursday morning.

The seven people are reported to be serious and battling for life in various hospitals in the area, police said, adding that the toll may go up.

Cisco to invest USD 60 million in India

The outgoing CEO of Cisco, John Chambers, on Thursday announced an investment of USD 60 million to start its expansion in India.

The Cisco CEO also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said they have made clear their commitment to him about making in India and will “take one step at a time”.

The company is planning to directly and indirectly invest upto USD 20 million over the next five years into Cisco Networking Academy to train 120,000 students in digital economy and will also invest an additional amount of USD 40 million for the next phase of expansion in India. (ANI)

Minor girl gang-raped in Bengaluru, three arrested

(ANI): In another shocking case of sexual harassment, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by three men in Bengaluru.

The police have arrested the three accused, who were produced before the magistrate earlier today, after the victim lodged a complaint in JP Nagar police station and identified the culprits.

The girl was allegedly taken away by an acquainted person and two of his associates to an under-construction building where the incident took place. (ANI)

Iraq denies IS claims of shooting down fighter jet

The Iraqi defence ministry denied on Thursday that one of its fighter planes was shot down by the Islamic State (IS), and termed the claim as an attempt at psychological warfare, Efe news agency reported.

A ministry statement on Thursday explained that the story circulated on some media outlets but was completely false.

The Iraqi military aircraft successfully completed their wide-scale missions against IS and none were affected, the statement added.

The number of people forcibly displaced at the end of 2014 had risen to a staggering 59.5 million, which was at the highest level since records began, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a report on Thursday.

Wars, conflicts and persecution have forced more people than at any other time since records began to flee their homes and seek refuge and safety elsewhere, according to the UN refugee agency’s annual “Global Trends Report: World at War”.

Jaitley assures foreign investors on reforms, tax regime

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has assured foreign investors on their concerns about the speed of India’s reforms process, as well as about an adversarial tax regime.

“Concerns that the process of reforms must expedite, which we are trying to do. Concern at the stability of policy, which has been assured because the government’s movement is in one direction,” Jaitley told reporters here on Wednesday after a visit to the New York Stock Exchange.

“Investors are certainly looking forward at India in order to make large amount of investments in India,” he said.

Indian origin scientist to get Russia’s highest tech award

St Petersburg, June 18 (IANS) B. Jayant Baliga, a US-based Indian-origin scientist, is being awarded Russia’s top technology award in recognition of his work in energy management which brought about huge increase in efficiency and major savings.

The award will presented to Professor Baliga and Shuji Nakamura on Friday by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a ceremony here.

Nakamura, a Nobel Laureate, is being recognised for his work on blue light emitting diodes (LEDs). In Russia, the Global Energy Prize is known as the electronics equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

Pakistan releases 113 Indian fishermen ahead of Ramadan

Pakistan on Thursday released 113 Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The release came on a directive of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the wake of a similar announcement by his Indian counterpart Narenda Modi.

The fishermen, who had been kept in Karachi’s Malir jail for nine months to a year, were put on a train bound for the eastern border city of Lahore from where they will return to their home country, Duniya news reported.

‘Twitter Terrorist’ Woman Jailed for Three Years

A young woman has been jailed for three-and-half years for openly advocating violent jihad and instigating people on Twitter to indulge in “terrorist activities”.

Alaa Esayed, 22, posted more than 45,000 tweets in Arabic on an open account to her 8,240 followers between June 2013 and May 2014, The Guardian reported.

Her Twitter account — with profile picture of a burqa-clad, kalashnikov- wielding woman — was even noticed by al-Qaida, which listed it as among the 66 most important jihadi accounts.

Thai Students Arrested in Pakistan May Have IS Links

Five Thai students arrested in Pakistan for trying to smuggle a pistol and ammunition aboard a flight to Bangkok are suspected of having links to local insurgents and the Islamic State (IS) terror group, media reported on Friday.

A 9mm pistol, bullets and magazines were found separately in their baggage during a security X-ray on Monday night as they were about to board a Thai Airways International flight back to Thailand, The Bangkok Post reported.

According to intelligence sources, Thai security officials are questioning the families of the young men.

20 terrorists killed on India-Myanmar border: Army

In a strong response to the ambush in Manipur that left 18 soldiers dead, the Indian Army on Tuesday said it launched operations along the India-Myanmar border killing several militants involved in the attack.

The operations were carried out in coordination with Myanmar following specific intelligence inputs of more attacks being planned, said Additional Director General (Military Operations) Maj. Gen. Ranbir Singh.

White House briefing room evacuated in bomb scaret

The US Secret Service interrupted the daily press conference of White House spokesperson Josh Earnest in order to temporarily evacuate the briefing room and one of the gardens of the presidential residence because of a bomb threat phoned to police that later proved to be a false alarm.

Reporters covering the press conference were moved to a street separating the White House from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, after President Barack Obama’s spokesperson told them to leave the briefing room.

FB journalist set afire by Minister Goondas

State minister Ram Murti Singh Verma along with five others have been booked in connection with the killing of the journalist by allegedly setting him afire in Shahjahanpur on June 1. Jagendra sustained 60% burn injuries was referred to civil hospital in Lucknow for treatment where he died on Monday night.

However, the police lodged FIR on Tuesday following public outcry on social media. Those named in the FIR include minister for backward classes welfare Ram Murti Singh Verma, Inspector Sri Prakash Rai besides four others identified as Gufran, Akash Gupta, Amit Pratap Singh and Bhure.
