YSR Abhaya hastham pension for 2.7 lakh women in 15 days: CM

Hyderabad, November 15:The Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, on Sunday instructed officials of Rural Development and Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) to ensure that the Abhaya Hastham Pension should be in the hands of all eligible women by the first day of every month from December.

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the scheme, “Dr. YSR Abhaya Hastham” telephonically with the Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Vatti Vasantha Kumar and senior officials of the Department, Mr R. Subramaniam, Mr T. Vijaya Kumar and Mr. Rajasekhar at his residence.

Lok Satta seeks relaxation on polling agents’ appointment

Hyderabad, November 15:The Lok Satta Party today requested the State Election Commission (SEC) to relax its mandate that a contestant’s agent in a polling station should be a registered voter in the same polling station area. It also sought permission to appoint men as polling agents in polling stations meant exclusively for women.

In a representation on behalf of the Lok Satta Party, Mr. Bheesetti Babji, Mr. V. Laxman Balaji brought to the SEC notice that its instruction that polling agents should belong to the same polling station area favors entrenched parties and candidates.

Police lift body from funeral pyre after murder complaint

Agra, November 15:The body of a 24-year-old woman was lifted by police from the funeral pyre in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district Sunday after her parents filed a complaint that she was set on fire for not mdeeting the dowry demands of her in-laws.

Anonymous ex-call girl blogger revealed to be British scientist

London, November 15: The anonymous author of three bestselling autobiographical books on a student turning to prostitution – themselves the product of a notorious blog – has been revealed to be a British research scientist.

Dr Brooke Magnanti, a hospital researcher from Bristol, told the Sunday Times she is the pseudonymous blogger of “Belle de Jour: Diary of a London Call Girl”, which was chosen by the Guardian as its blog of the year in 2003.

Her blogs were made into three books, including “The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl”, and a television serial.

Delhi Metro totes up its record single-day earnings Saturday

New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS) The Delhi Metro raked in its highest ever earning for a day – Rs. 1.64 crore (Rs.16.4 million) – Saturday with the new Delhi-Noida link continuing to do brisk business since its opening Friday, officials said.

“Delhi Metro recorded the highest passenger earning till date on Nov 14 (Saturday) at Rs.1.64 crore,” its spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

The newly opened Noida link which opened to public Friday was also doing brisk business, he added.

1,200 Caribbean troopers to guard Commonwealth meet

Nine booked for abetting realtor’s suicide in Bhopal

Bhopal, November 15: Nine people were booked for abetment of suicide after the bodies of a property dealer and his five-year-old son were found Saturday in a farmhouse in this Madhya Pradesh capital, police said Sunday.

According to police, Jai Prakash Singh shot dead his son and then committed suicide in a farmhouse near Hataikheda.

“On the basis of the suicide note left by Singh, cases have been registered against nine people on Saturday under the charges of abetment to suicide,” Bhopal Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad told IANS.

UAE to build oil refinery on Pakistan coast

Islamabad, November 15:The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has decided to go ahead with the construction of a $5 billion oil refinery in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, Pakistani officials said Sunday.

The refinery with an output of 250,000 barrels per day was postponed in January, due to the global recession and a row over management issues with Islamabad.

“The major contentious issues have been resolved and the project will soon be kicked off,” a senior official of Pakistan’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources said.

Police station in Goa inaugurated with belly dance

Panaji,November 14:The entire Goa Police top brass was treated to a belly dance performed by a scantily clad Russian dance troupe at a newly inaugurated police station in the state.

The belly dance was held at a function to celebrate the inauguration of the new premises of the Anjuna police station, 15 km from Panaji, late Thursday evening.

Officials at the Anjuna police station said that the dance had to be called off after the crowd comprising of police officials and civilians got unruly, and tried to climb onto the stage on which the belly dancers were performing.

AMU to have 250-acre branch in Bihar

Aligarh, November 14:The centre of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Bihar would come up in 250 acres, instead of 100 acres now, as the Bihar government has allotted an additional 150 acres of land free to the varsity.

“We have received an official communique from the Bihar government over the free of cost allotment of the additional land,” AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar told reporters in this Utar Pradesh town, some 300 km from state capital Lucknow.

“In the letter, the Bihar government has also emphasised on early opening of the varsity’s centre,” he added.

40-year-old kills parents, wife in Tripura

Agartala, November 14:A 40-year-old man killed his parents and wife in presence of his five-year-old daughter following a domestic quarrel in Tripura, police said Saturday.

Arjun Biswas killed his 70-year-old father, 60-year-old mother and 35-year-old wife at their residence in Maubazar township, about 130 km south of here, late Friday.

“Biswas killed his father Niranjan Biswas, mother Subha Biswas, and wife Kana Biswas, following heated squabbles,” south Tripura district police chief Krishnendu Chakraborty said.

NIMS to be coordinating body
