9-yr-old boy drowns in lake

A 9-year-old boy was drowned in a lake in Mailardevpally police limits.

The deceased, H Sunny, went to Kotta Cheruvu lake near his residence in Laxmiguda on Tuesday evening. The boy is believed to have drowned while trying to swim in the lake. His body was retrieved from the lake on Wednesday. (INN)

14-year-old boy succumbs to burn injuries

A 14-year-old boy succumbed to the burn injuries which he sustained on May 22 after his house caught fire.

According to Medipally police, the victim, Sai Kumar Reddy, sustained burn injuries when an electric short circuit caused fire accident at his house in Bala Chilkuri Nagar. Along with electronic equipment and furniture, the boy’s bed on which he was asleep caught fire. He was admitted to Gandhi Hospital where he died on Tuesday night. (INN)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for legal action against NGOs allegedly involved in duping Kashmiri students enrolled in various colleges under the PM’s Special Scholarship Scheme.

State Chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey briefed the Prime Minister on the implementation of the scheme through a video conference, an official spokesman said.

“The PM called for initiating legal action against the NGOs allegedly involved in duping the students who have enrolled in various colleges under the PMSSS,” the spokesman said.

Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu today had nice words for NCP president Sharad Pawar, saying he respected Pawar’s “wisdom and experience”.

Asked to comment on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement during his visit to Baramati that he (Modi) meets the former union Agriculture minister every month, Naidu said “Pawar is an experienced man and I respect his wisdom as a minister.”

Manmohan Singh to inaugurate 2-day NSUI meet

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will tomorrow inaugurate a two-day convention of Congress students’ wing NSUI here which will also see party vice-president Rahul Gandhi address its concluding session.

Singh would inaugurate the marquee event, ‘Drishtikon’, at 11 AM at the Mavlankar Hall here.

Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday launched the Wi-Fi service facility and opening of new booking counters at Secunderabad Railway Station to mark the commencement of celebration of “Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight” by the Indian Railways.

Dattatreya launched the Wi-Fi facility and inaugurated the new booking counters in the presence of Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao, MLAs C Dharma Reddy and A Jeevan Reddy. South Central Railway General Manager P.K.Srivastava other senior railway officials were also present on the occasion.
