Bukhari, Azam ‘should go to Pakistan’: UP Navnirman Sena chief

In controversial remarks, Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena chief Amit Jani today said that Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari and Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan “should go to Pakistan”.

Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena came to limelight a few years back for vandalising a life-size statue of former chief minister and BSP chief Mayawati.

“The right place for Shahi Imam Bukhari and Azam Khan is Pakistan and not India. Bukhari and Azam should be taken to Pakistan,” he said addressing the outfit’s workers here.

Jama Masjid Shahi Imam’s son anointed Naib Imam

Shaban Bukhari, the son of Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari, was Saturday formally anointed the Naib Imam (deputy Imam) of the 17th century mosque at a ceremony here.

“I announce Shaban Bukhari as the Naib Imam of Jama Masjid. I hope that he will live up to the expectations,” Syed Ahmed Bukhari said during the ceremony.

The 19-year-old Shaban, who is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in social work at Amity University, is now in line to become the Shahi Imam of the country’s largest mosque.

Bullet-proof vehicle found from Rampal’s Ashram, search on

Police today recovered a bullet-proof vehicle among other items from the Ashram of “godman” Rampal in Barwala town of Hisar district.

The recovery was made a day after a huge cache of arms and ammunition, petrol bombs, acid syringes were found from the highly-fortified complex.

The details emerged as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haryana Police continued with its search of the Ashram.

Among the recoveries made today included a bus, a bullet-proof Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV), a Maruti Gypsy, an oil tanker, two tractors along with trollies, police said.

Maoists fire at IAF chopper in Chhattisgarh

Leftist militants Friday fired shots at a rescue chopper of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in a densely forested area in Sukma district in Chhattisgarh when it attempted to airlift five injured paramilitary troopers, officials said.

“Rebels fired a few shots at IAF chopper Mi-17 in the violence-hit Chintagufa stretch when it tried to take off with five injured troopers,” Sukma Superintendent of Police D. Shrawan told IANS over phone.

He said flight gunner Mukesh Tiwari, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, was hit in his leg.

Committee set up to conduct session of Indian Science Congress

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis set up a high powered committee today to coordinate preparations for the 102nd session of the Indian Science Congress, officials at the CMO said.

The University of Mumbai plans to host the event from January 3, 2015, which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event would be attended by 12,000 scientists from India and abroad, including ten Nobel laureates.

Govt may do away with LPG subsidy for rich: Jaitley

Government is considering doing away with the LPG subsidy for the well-off, Finan e Minister Arun Jaitley said today.

“The next important decision India will have to take is whether people like me…(are) entitled to get our LPG subsidy,” he said at the HT Leadership Summit here.

Spanish health worker flown home after possible Ebola contagion

A Spanish health worker with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) arrived back in Spain Friday morning from Mali after being deemed at risk of contagion from the Ebola virus.

MSF confirmed the female health worker accidentally stabbed herself with a needle after injecting an Ebola patient.

She was flown to Madrid, arriving at the military airport of Torrejon, in a specially-equipped aircraft supplied by the MSF and taken to the Carlos III Hospital, Xinhua reported.

The patient will now be placed under observation, while tests to determine whether or not she is infected are carried out.

The Congress chief said the pace of relief and rehabilitation was very slow after the recent floods in the state because the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre made promises that it did not fulfil.

Delhi HC refuses to stay anointment of Shahi Imam’s son

The Delhi High Court Friday refused to stay the anointment ceremony of Jama Masjid Shahi Imam’s son as the Naib Imam (deputy Imam) saying the ceremony had no legal sanctity.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S. Endlaw said the anointment ceremony has no legal position, as informed by the Centre and the Delhi Waqf Board, so it can’t stay the ceremony.

The central government and the Waqf Board told the court that the anointment of Naib Imam was “illegal” and had no legal sanctity.

Expenditure Management Commission to submit sugestions soon: Jaitley

China’s central bank to inject liquidity if necessary

China’s central bank said Friday that it would inject liquidity into the country’s banking system if necessary.

“At present, the overall liquidity in the banking system is abundant,” the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, said in a posting on its official microblog on Sina Weibo.

Recently, there have been fluctuations in short-term capital supply and demand and money market interest rates, according to the PBOC, citing factors including the initial public offerings of several companies next week.

61 Indian fishermen arrested in Pakistan

At least 61 Indian fishermen have been arrested and their 11 boats seized by Pakistani authorities for allegedly violating the country’s territorial waters.

The fishermen were arrested yesterday by the Maritime Security Agency, a police official said.

“They were fishing inside Pakistan’s territorial waters and were presented in court today,” the official said.

All of arrested fishermen have been charged under Foreign Act and Fisheries Act.

Tripura government reduces tax on aviation fuel

The Tripura government Friday reduced the value-added tax (VAT) on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by four percent, a minister here said, following a request from the central government.

“The state government on the request of the central government has reduced the VAT on ATF by four percent. Earlier the VAT on ATF was 22 percent and henceforth it would be 18 percent,” Tripura Information and Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha told reporters.

Five terrorists arrested in Kabul

Five terrorists have been detained in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, a media report said Friday.

“Five would-be suicide bombers have captured by the personnel of National Directorate of Security (NDS). The captured men planned to launch an attack and target the Second Vice President, Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostom,” Xinhua cited Tolo News as stating.
