Pak Taliban leader Maulana Fazlullah dead?

Islamabad, July 02: Maulana Fazlullah, the commander of the Pakistani Taliban, is reported to have died from injuries sustained during the ongoing military offensive by Pakistani forces.

Pakistani news channel Express 24/7 has reported that Fazlullah, also known as Radio Mullah, may have died of his injuries.

Muslim leaders oppose HC judgement

New Delhi, July 02: Muslim community leaders have come out in opposition of the DHC judgement. “It is wrong to legalise homosexuality. We will not accept any such law,” reacted Jama Masjid Imam Ahmed Bukhari. He was critical of the government’s role in this. “If the government makes such attempt to scrap Section 377, we will oppose it strongly.”

RBI for improvement in quality of WPI, IIP data

Mumbai, July 02: The Reserve Bank today said the country’s wholesale price-based inflation and industrial production data should be improved and employment data availed for effective monetary policy management.

“There is scope for significant improvement in the construction of WPI … there is much more to data analysis than simple mathematical formulation between inflation and rate cuts,” RBI governor D Subbarao said while speaking at the statistics day conference here.

585 Indian prisoners in Pak Jails

Islamabad, July 02: There were 585 Indian prisoners including nine juveniles in Pakistan jails, according to a report in leading and credible daily Dawn. The paper quoted diplomatic sources to say that the list contained names of 535 fishermen, 41 civilians and nine juveniles being held in different jails of the country.

2 killed in Mysore communal clashes

Mysore, July 02: At least two persons were killed and many injured when people of two communities clashed over construction of a place of worship in Mysore on Thursday.

The clashes triggered over the construction on a disputed land.

Following the incident, the district administration clamped restrictions in parts of the city under Section 144 of the CrPC.

With the BJP in power, hard line Hindutva groups were being blamed for the clashes. The state government was under fire over a spate of attacks on churches in Karnataka a few months ago.

Mumbai local train services hit

Mumbai, July 02: The morning commuters suffered badly in Mumbai on Thursday after the city’s lifeline, its local train service, was hit following a technical snag.

The rush hour traffic was disrupted after an overhead electric wire snapped at Mulund station.

Train services on one track were suspended, which affected traffic in the central section.

Delhi HC verdict on penal provision of gay sex likely today

New Delhi, July 02: The Delhi High Court is likely to pronounce its verdict on Thursday on the controversial penal provision on homosexuality even as the government is grappling with the option to scrap it from the statute.

A bench of Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Muralidhar had reserved its order on November 7 last year after marathon proceedings in which the governemnt had vociferously opposed scrapping of section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which prescribes punishment upto life imprisonment for indulging in unnatural sexual acts.

Oz hides how 54 overseas students died last year

Melbourne, July 02: Amid an environment of deep outrage over a series of racial attacks against Indian students in Australia, a prominent Oz daily, The Age, has come out with a report claiming that coroners have suppressed the details of the deaths of 51 international students and that there is evidence that the toll is higher than that admitted by the government.

The daily reported on Wednesday that state and territory coroners, under the National Coroners Information System, refused an application by the daily for data on the deaths of overseas students between November 2008 and now.

US launches major Afghan assault

Washington, July 02: US forces have launched a major military operation in southern Afghanistan in the first big push to drive the Taliban out of a key stronghold since Barack Obama became US president.

Four thousand marines, backed by Nato aircraft and a 650-strong Afghan force, are moving into towns in Helmand province, where the Taliban has been intensifying its challenge to the Kabul government and allied forces.

Delicious Plum Cake

Ingredients:

250 gms maida
250 gms sugar (Powdered)
5 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp Vanilla essence
1½ tsp Garam Masala*
1 Lime
250 gms margarine (to chop and soak in caramel)
50 gms cashew
50 gms raisins
75 gms mixed peel
25 gms cherries
50 gms sugar
½ cup caramel syrup

Method:

Chop and soak the dry fruits and sugar in caramel.
Then, grease and paper a cake tin and keep aside.
Sieve maida and baking powder and keep aside.
In a large bowl cream the margarine with a wooden spoon till fluffy.
Gradually add the sugar powder and continue beating.

Vidya to do a cameo in 3 Idiots?

Mumbai, July 01: Vidya Balan and Raj Kumar Hirani became good friends while working in Lage Raho Munnabhai. And though the filmmaker is busy with his film 3 Idiots, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, he seems unable to take Vidya out of his mind.

As a result, the director has offered Vidya a cameo in the multi-starrer film.

A birdie says Raju offered Vidya the role when they recently met at a common friend’s place after a long time.

Nargis raps Neetu over bikini shoot

Mumbai, July 01: Nargis, who was last seen in the Akshay Kumar and John Abraham-starrer Garam Masala, says she would never wear something that makes her family uncomfortable.

Taking a dig at her Garam Masala co-star Neetu Chandra — who was recently in news for a hot bikini shoot — Nargis says sporting a bikini is out of question for her.

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has issued a public notice to the effect from the civic commissioner Jairaj Phatak’s office.

Ingredients:
750 gms. chicken (medium pieces)
1 “ cinnamon
1 tsp. Badi saunf (fennel seeds)
10 curry leaves
3 medium onions (sliced)
½ tbsp. ginger paste
½ tbsp. garlic paste
2 tsp. coriander powder
1 tsp. turmeric powder
2 tbsp. red chilly powder
1 cup thin coconut milk
½ cup thick coconut milk
3 medium tomatoes (chopped)
1 tbsp. tamarind pulp
1 ½ tbsp. oil / ghee
1 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste.

400 gms. paneer
2 tbsp. butter
1 medium onion
2 small tomatoes
¼ cup cashew nuts
½ “ginger
2 flakes garlic
½ cup fresh cream
1 tbsp. chilly powder
2 tbsp coriander powder
1 tsp. garam masala powder
½ tsp. turmeric powder
2 tbsp. oil
1 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves

Chennai, July 01: A day after the sensational revelation by justice R Regupathi of the Madras High Court that a Union minister had tried to “strongly influence” him into granting bail to two persons accused in a forged mark sheet case, a section of lawyers reacted strongly and sought the unnamed minister’s dismissal.

The anticipatory bail application came up for hearing before justice Regupathi on Monday and the judge lost his cool when counsel for the petitioners complained that he was “passing orders” on the basis of the prosecution’s submission alone.

PC confirms security threat on western coast

Hydeabad, July 01: Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday confirmed a security threat on the western coast.

Speaking in Hyderabad while inaugurating the country’s third regional NSG hub , the Union home minister said there were intelligence inputs of a threat along the western coast.

He said the coastal states in the western region do face an imminent security threat and admitted that there were intelligence inputs regarding a potential threat to Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa.

Chidambaram said all the respective states have been informed and asked to be alert.

H1B petitions: Over 20,000 vacancies still left
