New Delhi, July 05: In Delhi, 58-year-old Rajinder Singh was just another taxi driver. Internationally, he could well be the most wanted Indian, a man the US Drug Enforcement Agency (USDEA) has been chasing for over a year.

On June 26, Sethi accused of being part of an international drug cartel that trafficked contraband to different parts of the world, was ordered to be extradited to the US by additional chief metropolitan magistrate Ajay Pandey.

The USDEA had been pushing for Sethi’s extradition following its investigations into an international drug supply racket.

Michael Jackson planned to adopt Octomom’s kids

London, July 05: ‘King Of Pop’ Michael Jackson was planning to adopt the eight babies of ‘Octomom’ Nadya Suleman just weeks before his sudden death.

The pop icon was concerned about the plight of the eight babies born to “penniless” Suleman who already has six children and had offered to adopt them, reported Mirror online.

The 50-year-old singer who has three children, two with ex-wife Debbie Rowe and one with an unknown surrogate, was desperate for a larger family and had contacted Suleman’s publicist Victor Munoz for the adoption.

Lalu turns non vegetarien again

Patna, July 05: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad has started relishing non-vegetarian delicacies once again, after turning vegetarian some years ago.

“I started with fish recently and ended up with chicken,” Lalu said on Saturday. “The rest of the birds will follow.”

Lalu said he tasted non-vegetarian dishes after six years. “I could not do anything about it. I felt like eating them. But I did it after apologising to Lord Shiva and other gods and goddesses,” he said.

Dry Fruit Kheer

Ingredients:

Leftover plain Boiled Rice 1 cup

Cream Biscuits 8-10 (Vanilla or Cardamom flavour)

Dry fruits 1/2 cup

Milk fresh 1 cup

Milk cream fresh 1/2 cup

Vanilla essence 2, 3 drops.(if served chilled)

Recipe to prepare Dry Fruit Kheer :

. Mix leftover rice, biscuits and milk.
. Boil it for about ten minutes or till it thickens a little.
. Mash the rice and biscuits with a masher so that biscuits mix well.
. Add the cream and dry fruits.
. Mix well and boil for 2 minutes.
. Pour the kheer in a bowl and add the essence.

Mysore Pak

Ingredients:

1 cup bengal gram flour

1 cup sugar

2 1/2 cups ghee

1 cup water

1/2 tsp cardomom powder

Recipe to prepare Mysore Pak Recipe :

. Sieve the bengal gram flour (besan).
. Roast it on a hot griddle/ tava for 2-3 minutes stirring constantly.
. Set aside.
. Heat half the ghee (clarified butter) (1 1/4 cup) in a pan.
. Put the sugar in another pan and add 1 cup of water to it.
. Cook till it becomes sticky syrup.
. It should not become stringy.
. Add the roasted flour to the sugar syrup stirring constantly.

Spinach Rolls

Ingredients:
25 to 30 spinach leaves
4 boiled and mashed potatoes
1½ tsp amchur powder
1 onion, chopped
3 green chillies, chopped
1 tbsp ghee
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

For serving
Tomato ketchup

For the batter
½ teacup gram flour
½ teacup rice flour or plain flour
½ tsp chilli powder
½ tsp salt
1 teacup water

Method:
Heat the ghee and sauté the onion for 1 minute.
Put the green chillies and sauté again for a few seconds.
Put the potatoes, amchur powder and salt. Cool and shape into rolls.

Egg Kababs

Ingredients:
4 eggs hard-boiled
2 tsp Besan
1 onion, finely chopped
1 egg (white only)
1 tbsp pudina leaves , finely chopped
1 tbsp hara dhania leaves, finely chopped.
2 Hari mirch , finely chopped
¼ tsp chilli powder
½ tsp black pepper powder
salt to taste
oil for frying

Method:
Grate the hard boiled eggs finely.
Combine with all other ingredients except oil.
Mix well and Knead into smooth dough.
Divide mixture into 10-12 equal portions.
Shape each portion into medallions and keep aside.

Anupam Kher to launch acting school in Ahmedabad

New Delhi, July 03: Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher will launch his acting school Actor Prepares in Ahmedabad after having opened branches in Chandigarh and London.

“This phase of vigorous expansion reflects the high level of interest in Indian cinema and the entertainment business among the younger generation the world over. I believe that acting, like any craft, can be taught, learnt and perfected,” Kher said in a statement released here Thursday.

From now, women commandos to be deployed on trains

New Delhi, July 03 : Indian Railways will deploy women security personnel and increase their number in the proposed commando battalions, Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee said in the railways budget presented in parliament Friday.

The women Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed to ensure security of women passengers, particularly on routes where a large number of them travel alone regularly, Banerjee said while presenting the budget.

Journalists to get 50 per cent concession in trains

New Delhi, July 03: Accredited journalists will be issued photo identification-cum-credit cards by the Railways to get reservation and a 50 per cent concession. While presenting the Railway Budget for 2009-10 in Parliament, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said instead of giving coupons, a practice in vogue till now, it is now proposed to issue photo identification-cum-credit cards.

Delhi Govt order on imposing timing restrictions on shops withdrawn

New Delhi, July 03 : In a relief to traders in the city aggrieved over the order to shut down shops by 1930 hours due to the power crisis, the Delhi Government today withdrew the restrictions.

With the power situation in Delhi easing due to Monsoon showers hitting the city over the past few days, the Labour Department in Delhi said it was removing the restrictions on the traders to down shutters by 1930 hrs.

Floods displace 200,000 in Assam

Gowahati, July 03: The Assam government has sounded an alert after heavy monsoon rains inundated more than 300 villages, displacing an estimated 200,000 people in the past two days.

Four districts of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat and Nagaon have been worst affected.

Most of the displaced people are now lodged at makeshift shelters on raised embankments.

Woman with brother’s collusion kill husband

Chhattisgarh, July 3 : Irked over her husband’s drinking habits, a woman with the collusion of her brother beat him with sticks till he died Hasan Palia area here, police said today.

Jujhar Singh (40) was a drunkard which sparked frequent disputes between him and her wife Bhanwar Kunwar.

An altercation ensued between the couple last night and reached such heights that Bhanwar and her brother Mangusingh started beating and wielding sticks on him.

After sustaining severe injuries, Jujhar died on the spot.

New scheme in Railway Budget for poor to ‘travel with dignity’

New Delhi, July 03 : The Railways are introducing a new scheme titled ‘Izzat'(Dignity) to ensure that ‘the poorest of the poor travel with dignity.’ Under the scheme, a uniformly-priced monthly season ticket of Rupees 25 would be available to members of the unorganised sector for travel upto 100 kms, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee announced presenting her Ministry’s budget for 2009-10 in the Lok Sabha.

This ticket, free of all surcharges, will be for those unorgnaised sector workers whose monthly income does not exceed Rs 1500 .

460 new foreign medical graduates eligible to work in India

New Delhi, July 03 : About 460 foreign medical graduates this year cleared the screening exam that makes them eligible to practice in India, while the number was 1,326 last year, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said here Friday.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, the health minister said that in 2007, of the 3,143 foreign degree holders who appeared for the examinations conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE), only 536 passed.

Malaysia detains trio for alleged links to terror group: report

Kuala Lumpur, July 03: Malaysian police have detained three terror suspects under a tough security law for allegedly trying to revive the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) militant group in Kuala Lumpur, a report said on Friday.

The trio, aged between 43 and 53, are believed to have met with Singaporean militant Mas Selamat bin Kastari, who was captured in Malaysia’s south in April after escaping from detention in Singapore, the Star newspaper said.

Australia pledges millions to Aborigines after abuse report

Sydney, July 03: Australia announced a 155 million US dollar package for isolated Aboriginal communities on Friday, after a new report revealed shocking levels of child abuse among the downtrodden minority.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who made a landmark apology for Australia’s treatment of Aborigines last year, said the package was an attempt to redress decades of poor treatment.

“It’s time that we put the rancour of the past behind us,” Rudd said as he signed the accord aimed at boosting health, education, housing and transport in Western Australia’s vast East Kimberley region.

Washington, July 03: Experts suggest that it is ‘alluring’ even for well-behaved children to emulate ‘bad’ characters on a film screen”.

But the study also shows that movie characters who smoke, regardless of whether they are a ‘goodie’ or a ‘baddie’, overall influence teens’ smoking tendencies.

Susanne Tanski, the lead author on the study, and an assistant professor of paediatrics at Dartmouth Medical School in the US, said: “It’s true that ‘bad guys’ are more often smokers in the movies, but there really are not that many ‘bad guys’ compared to ‘good guys’.

Pakistan, India PMs to meet on sidelines of NAM summit

Islamabad, July 03 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will meet his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Sharm El-Sheikh on July 16, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry has said.

”The Indian and Pakistani Foreign Secretaries will also meet on the sidelines of the summit,” it said, adding that we hope India would realize that resumption of composite dialogue process is in the interest of the two countries.

RAF stages flag march in Mysore

Mysore, July 03: Rapid Action Force on Friday, staged a flag march in violence-hit areas in Mysore as three more persons were stabbed on Thursday night in continuing communal clashes over alleged desecration of a madrasa.

Police said three armed persons on motorcycles stabbed three persons and fled.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital.

Contingents of RAF staged flag march in troubled areas where prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC are in force.

The communal tension that rocked Udayagiri and adjoining areas on Thursday left three persons including a child dead.

Pak appeals against HC order freeing JuD chief

Islamabad, July 03: A month after 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed was let off the hook, the Punjab government of Pakistan challenged his release on Friday.

The government took up the matter to Pakistan’s Supreme Court. The Punjab government filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging Saeed’s release from house arrest.

The petition stated that Saeed, the chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) front, needed to be detained for his own protection.

Saeed was released on June 2 by the Lahore High Court for want of sufficient evidence.
