AP CM targets Jagan, calls him an ‘opportunist’

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday targeted YSR Congress party chief and Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy accusing him of being an an “opportunist”.

Speaking at a function here, the Chief Minister, who was joined by PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana in the attack against Jagan, alleged the Kadapa MP had amassed wealth by misusing the powers of his late father and former AP Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Charging that Jagan was hungry for power, Reddy said “he is leading a princely life and cannot claim to be poor people’s representative. He is ruthless.”

Madhu Yaskhi threatens to resign from Congress

Congress MP Madhu Yaskhi Goud on Sunday announced that he would resign from the party and post if the Centre fails to announce a favourable decision on Telangana statehood by July this year.

Talking to reporters, the Nizambad MP made it clear that he would resign from the primary membership of Congress party and also from the Lok Sabha membership if the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre fails to decide on Telangana. However, he hoped that the Congress would take a decision in favour of formation of Telangana State.

Pakistan public to fund Asif Ali Zardari’s Ajmer donation

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s donation of $ 1 million to the famous sufi shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer will be paid from Pakistan’s public exchequer, his spokesman has said.
Zardari announced the donation, which the shrine’s administrators have described as one of the biggest in recent years, when he offered prayers at the Dargah on April 8.

The President visited the shrine in Rajasthan after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a day-long private visit to India.

CBI grills Sabitha in Jagan’s assets case

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday grilled Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy in connection with disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy.

According to sources, the CBI officials questioned Sabitha at her residence for more than three hours about the permissions and licenses granted to certain cement companies, which allegedly made investments into the companies owned by Jagan under quid pro quo arrangement.

Telangana issue generates heat in Rajya Sabha

Congress will win majority of seats in by-polls, claims Chiranjeevi

Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi on Friday said that the wave was in favour of Congress party in the ensuing by-elections.

Talking to media persons at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, Chiranjeevi expressed confidence that the Congress party would emerge victorious in majority of constituencies in the by-elections. However, when reporters specifically asked for numbers, he restrained from giving the exact or approximate number of seats that Congress could win.

Didn’t seek RSS support for the movement: Anna

Activist Anna Hazare on Wednesday said he had never sought RSS’s support and Sangh supremo Mohan Bhagwat should not have declared support to his anti-corruption movement.

“I do not personally know RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, I have never met him,” he said in reply to a reporter’s question here, adding Bhagwat should not have said that RSS supported his movement.
Hazare has been accused by some Congress leaders of acting at RSS’ behest.

MCA lodges police complaint against Shah Rukh Khan, bans him for life

The Mumbai Cricket Association officials have lodged a police complaint against Kolkata Knight Riders IPL franchise team co-owner Shah Rukh Khan for his alleged misbehaviour last night at the Wankhede Stadium and decided to ban him for life from entering the premises.

“We have lodged a complaint against him at the Marine Drive Police station (for his alleged misbehaviour against MCA officials),” informed MCA secretary Nitin Dalal.

IM founder member grilled by CIC in 2007 twin blasts case

Counter Intelligence Cell (CIC) sleuths who took Indian Mujahideen founder member Mohammed Tariq Anjum into custody in connection with the 2007 Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat Bhandar blasts is reported have found some leads on the whereabouts of the main IM operators.

Anjum who was arrested by the Delhi police last year was brought to Hyderabad a few days ago and will be produced before the Nampally criminal court on May 21.

SIT tried to undermine credibility of fax message: Sanjiv Bhatt

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt today alleged that SIT, in its report, made overzealous efforts to undermine the credibility of the fax alert messages sent by him when he was in the state intelligence bureau during the 2002 Gujarat riots.

In a letter to SIT chief RK Raghavan today, Bhatt contested the findings of investigating agency that the two fax messages, sent by Bhatt on February 27 and 28, 2002, were fabricated.

Take police help for getting N D Tiwari’s blood sample: HC

The Delhi High Court today ordered its registrar to take police assistance for bringing defiant veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari here for taking his blood sample to decide the paternity suit of a man claiming to be his son.

“Joint Registrar (JR) shall be entitled to avail police assistance in case the defendant number one (Tiwari) is not available within the jurisdiction of this court. The JR shall seek the police assistance for bringing him in this court for the purpose of taking the blood sample for the DNA test,” Justice Reva Khetrapal said.

Austerity measures needed, says Pranab

India will issue some austerity measures to aid the fiscal consolidation process, Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Mukherjee’s comments came after the Indian rupee hit a record low against the dollar as risk aversion in global markets added pressure on a currency already under fire from fiscal and current account deficits that are weighing on growth.

Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday said in Rajya Sabha that the government is concerened over slowdown in country’s economic growth and it is taking steps to address the issue.

All party meeting on by-polls on Thursday

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Wednesday informed that an all-party meeting would be held on Thursday to discuss the arrangements for the by-polls to be held in 18 assembly and one Parliament seats on June 12.

Bhanwarlal said that eight recognised political parties have been invited for the meeting. However, he said YSR Congress and Lok Satta, which are yet to get Election Commission’s recognition, were officially not invited, but they could submit their representations.

Naxal bandh: Ultras obstruct vehicular traffic

As part of a nationwide bandh call on Wednesday, Maoists cut-off trees and put it on a road leading to temple town Bhadrachalam in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh.

The bandh call was given by banned outfit CPI (Maoists) against Operation Green Hunt and the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).

A group of Maoists obstructed road after cutting trees near Devarpalli in Charla mandal of Bhadrachalam division in the wee hours today, a senior police officer of Khammam district said.

PCC to act tough against rebel leaders

The Congress party has finally decided to act tough against its own leaders who are criticising Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the party and State Government.

Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday, PCC Disciplinary Committee chairman K Satyanarayana Raju said that it has been decided to take stern action the leaders who have been making statements against the Chief Minister and other leaders. The proposed action against such leaders would be discussed during the meeting of Disciplinary Committee meeting to be held at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday.

TRS announces Bhikshapati’s candidature from Parkal

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday announced that Moluguri Bhikshapati will be its candidate from Parkal assembly constituency where by-elections will be held on June 12.

NRHM scam: Truth will come out soon, says Akhilesh Yadav

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said an inquiry was on into the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam and the truth would come out soon.

“An inquiry is being conducted (into the NRHM scam) and the truth will come out,” he said in a reply to a reporter’s question after taking oath as member of the Vidhan Parishad.

Akhilesh said the CBI was probing the matter and several people, including the then ministers and officials, were being quizzed.

Asked whether former Chief Minister Mayawati would come into the inquiry net, he said the truth would come out soon.

AP CM digs into history to corner Jagan

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is digging into history–that of Congress party in general and his and late YS Rajasekhara Reddy families in particular.

His apparent objective is to prove that Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy is a “political novice” with “links to criminals” and that his (Kiran’s) own family has a greater political legacy than that of YSR.
