Court remands Mangala Krishna to judicial custody till June 6

A criminal court at Nampally on Wednesday remanded Mangala Krishna, who was arrested by the CID for allegedly supplying fire arms to Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri murder case, to judicial custody till June 6.

The court gave this direction after Mangala Krishna was produced before the court by the CID. He was arrested on Tuesday at Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar district. On court’s directions, he was shifted to Cherlapally Central Prison.

Train collision: K’taka MLA among lucky passengers

Karnataka MLA Amaregowda Bayyapura was among the lucky passengers of the ill-fated Hampi Express as he escaped unhurt when it collied with a goods train throwing three coaches ahead of their AC bogie off the rails and claiming 25 lives.

Bayyapura, who represents Kushtagi in Raichur district, said he was lucky to be alive as he was travelling in the fourth coach, 2-tier AC.

“I woke up to a loud thud and after alighting I saw two of the coaches on top of the engine and the wheels of the coaches broken apart,” he told PTI.

DGP denies meeting Vayalar Ravi

Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy on Tuesday denied that he met Union Minister for Overseas Affair Vayalar Ravi during latter’s visit to Hyderabad.

“YSR Congress party is claiming through media that DGP has met Vayalar Ravi, in his visit to Hyderabad and discussed political situation. The statement is absolutely baseless and far from truth,” the DGP said in a statement.

The DGP said that he has neither met Vayalar Ravi in his last visit to Hyderabad nor spoken with him.

3 trains cancelled, 5 late due to AP train mishap

Three trains have been cancelled and five others were running late as a result of the collision between Hampi express and a goods train in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantpur district.

Bangalore-Mysore express, Mysore-Yesvantpur express and Hindupur-Guntakal passenger train have been cancelled for the day, a South Western Railway press release said.

Kacheguda-Bangalore Express, Nizamuddin-Bangalore Rajdhani Express, Mumbai(CST)-Bangalore Udyan Express, Machilipatnam-Yesvantpur Express and Bagalkot-Yesvantpur Basava Express were running late, it said.

SSC results postponed to May 24

The Andhra Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (APBSE) on Tuesday again deferred the release of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination results.

According to reports, the Board of Secondary Education will now release the SSC results on May 24 against the earlier schedule of May 23 due to non-availability of Minister of Secondary Education K Parthasarathy, who is on by-election campaign in Tirupati Assembly constituency.

EC says no to general transfers till June 15

The Election Commission on Monday asked the State Government to postpone the general transfers of officials till the end of by-elections’ process.

Talking to reporters at the State Secretariat, Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said that the State Government has sought the Election Commission’s advise on the general transfers. However, he said that the government has been asked to hold the transfers till the declaration of by-elections results on June 15.

Evangelist KA Paul arrested for brother’s murder

Andhra Pradesh-based noted evangelist KA Paul was on Monday held in connection with the murder of his brother David in the year 2010.

According to reports, Paul was arrested by the authorities in the Prakasham district in Andhra Pradesh. Paul’s brother David was murdered in connection with a property dispute.

Paul floated the Praja Santhi Party in 2007 to contest the Assembly Elections while he was at loggerheads with the then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. However, he lost the election and accused all the political leaders of hatching a conspiracy against his gospel.

100 detained at rave party in Mumbai hotel

About 100 people were detained at a suspected rave party at a hotel in suburban Juhu this evening, police said. Additional Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nagre Patil conducted the raid at Hotel Oakwoods at Juhu and detained about 100 persons, many of them were youngsters, they said.

The type of drug used at the party was not immediately known and the raid was still on and those detained have been sent to Cooper hospital for medical examination, they added.
