CM’s appeal for 10 votes draws EC’s notice

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday issued notices to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for giving speeches violating election code of conduct during the by-election campaign in Tirupati, Rayadurgam and Anantapur Assembly constituencies.

The Commission took serious note on the Chief Minister’s remarks wherein he appealed to the voters to cast 10 votes each for the ruling party in the by-elections. Later, the YSR Congress party lodged a complaint with the Election Commission stating that the Chief Minister’s statement violates the Election Code of Conduct.

Naidu questions CBI for not arresting KVP

Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday accused YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy of forcing the industrialists to invest their money in his companies.

Addressing a by-election campaign at Alur in in Nellore district, the TDP chief said that former government advisor K V P Ramachandra Rao played a crucial role in mobilising the investments in the companies floated by Jagan Mohan Reddy. He asked the CBI as to why it has arrested or questioned Ramachandra Rao in connection with the disproportionate assets case of Jagan.

Andhra Pradesh HC quashes Centre’s 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities

Holding that the Centre acted in a “casual manner”, the Andhra Pradesh high court today quashed the 4.5 per cent sub-quota to minorities carved out of 27 per cent OBC reservation — a verdict that may affect admissions already made in central educational institutions such as IITs. In a setback to the Centre over the sub-quota issue, the court said the office memorandum (OM) creating the sub-quota was based on religious grounds and not on any other consideration.

AP DGP told to exercise restraint in detaining YSR party actvists

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer on Monday directed the state Director General of Police (DGP) not to indiscriminately detain the YSR Congress Party workers and leaders in the name of maintaining law and order.

State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal wrote a letter to the Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy in this regard following a complaint lodged by the YSRC with the Election Commission.

Jagan sent to judicial custody till June 11

The CBI court on Monday remanded YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy to judicial custody till June 11 in connection with the alleged disproportionate assets case.

While remanding him to judicial custody, the court rejected the CBI’s plea seeking 14 days custody of Jagan for further questioning. The court also rejected the petition of Jagan Mohan Reddy seeking bail. The CBI’s counsel contended that Jagan might tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses, if he was released on bail.

TET postponed to June 1

Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) Director Jagannatha Reddy on Monday informed that the TET has been postponed to June 1 in view of Bharat Bandh call given by opposition parties in protest against the petrol price hike.

In a statement issued to media, he said that as per the schedule the TET was to be held on May 31. But due to Bharat Bandh call, it has been postponed to June 1. He said that there was no change in examination time.

Eleven accused gets bail in Jagan’s assets case

The CBI court on Monday granted bail to 11 out of 13 accused in connection with the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Except prime accused Jagan Mohan Reddy and vice-chairman Jagathi Publications Vijay Sai Reddy, the court granted bail to 11 others who were named as accused in the first chargesheet. They include Hetero Drugs Managing Director Srinivasa Reddy, Aurobindo Pharma MD Nityananda Reddy, Trident Life Sciences MD Sarat Chandra Reddy, APIIC former officer Y Vijayalakshmi and Aurobindo Pharma’s former secretary Chandramouli.

EC rejects 84 nominations for by-polls

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Saturday informed that as many as 84 nominations out of 412 filed for by-elections in 18 Assembly and one Parliament seats in the State have been rejected after scrutiny.

Cyberabad police on Saturday arrested three supporters of YSR Congress party leader and MP Jagan Mohan Reddy who had allegedly conspired to burn state-owned RTC buses and damage government property in case their leader was arrested.

13/7 blasts: ATS files chargesheet, names Bhatkal

Nearly a year after triple bomb blasts shook the city killing 27 people and wounding many others, Maharashtra ATS on Friday filed 4700-page chargesheet in a special court against 10 members of Indian Mujahideen, including its top operative Riyaz Bhatkal who is believed to be hiding in Pakistan.

Of the 10 members of the home terror group, six are absconding while four have been arrested. Those facing trial are Naquee Ahmed, Nadeem Shaikh, Kanwar Pathrija and Haroon Naik.

Congress not trying to defer by-polls, say Botsa

Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayan on Friday denied allegations that the ruling party was trying to defer the by-elections by arresting Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy in disproportionate assets case.

Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Botsa said that Jagan has been trying to mislead the people by leveling baseless allegations against the Congress party accusing it of trying to defer the polls. He said that the Congress party was sure of its victory in by-elections and would never play dirty politics to counter a political opponent.

Congress will not spare corrupt leaders: Lagadapati

Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Friday stated that the Congress party would take severe action against leaders found involved in corruption.

DGP promises trouble-free by-polls

Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy on Friday said that the department has made all arrangements for the free and fair conduct of by-elections in the 18 Assembly constituencies and Nellore Lok Sabha seat on June 12.

Talking to media persons after reviewing polling arrangements with officials in Kadapa district, Dinesh Reddy said that check posts have been established by deploying additional police forces in the sensitive areas to ensure that people cast their vote in a free and fair manner. He said that CC cameras would be installed at all polling stations in 12-districts.

YSR’s brother Vivekananda Reddy quits Congress

The YSR family’s last link with ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh snapped on Wednesday with the late chief minister’s younger brother Y S Vivekananda Reddy resigning from primary membership of the party.

Viveka announced his decision to leave Congress after a meeting with his supporters in his hometown Pulivendula, coinciding with the death anniversary of his father Raja Reddy.

“You decide my political future”, Viveka told his supporters after stating that he could not stay on in Congress accusing the party of having launched a diatribe against “my late brother YSR”.

CM rubbishes charges of Jagan as ‘baseless’

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday rubbished the charges of YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy that the state government, the Congress, the TDP and the CBI have hatched a conspiracy to arrest him in 3-4 days as `baseless’ and `far from truth.’

Talking to media persons as part of by-election campaign in Tirupati Assembly constituency, Kiran Kumar Reddy stated that Jagan has lost his mental balance fearing of losing in the by-elections and made this statement out of desperation.

CBI quizzes Mopidevi for 7 hours over VANPIC

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday grilled Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana for around 7 hours in connection with his role the allotment of 13,000 acres of land in Guntur and Prakasam districts for VANPIC during his stint in YSR Cabinet.

The CBI officials questioned Mopidevi Venkataramana at Dilkusha Guest House along with industrialist and media baron Nimmagadda Prasad, who promoted the VANPIC and senior bureaucrat K V Brahmananda Reddy for his role as special secretary, Ports, Investments and Infrastructure.
