I did not receive ACB Court notices : Rosaiah

Former Chief minister and Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah on Wednesday stated that he would respond on ACB court notices over the de-notification of land in favour of private parties only after getting the copies.
Talking to media persons, Rosaiah said that he was yet to receive the notices of ACB court and would respond only after seeing them.

“I did not receive the ACB court notices so far and only know it through media. I will respond on the notices whenever I receive them,” he said.

Suspended IPS officer Umesh Kumar appears in court

The suspended senior IPS officer Umesh Kumar, who allegedly forged a letter in the name of a Rajya Sabha MP to complain against IPS officer Dinesh Reddy, on Wednesday appeared before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Nampally.

The court has recalled the Non Bailable Warrant against him following submission of Rs 10,000 as surety and asked him to appear before the court in connection with forgery case.

It may be mentioned that the government has suspended him for his unauthorized absence from duty.

State Govt suspends IPS Umesh Kumar

The State Government on Tuesday suspended senior IPS officer Umesh Kumar, who is facing a forgery case, for his unauthorized absence from duty.

The government issued orders suspending Umesh Kumar from services as a disciplinary action for his unauthorized absence from the duty for the last five days. The government issued suspension orders three days after a local court issued non-bailable warrant against the officer and he went into hiding after police reached his house to execute the warrant.

Principal Special Judge for CBI cases A Pullaiah was among the judges dealing with high-profile cases who were transferred by the Andhra Pradesh high court today.

The CBI courts are presently dealing with alleged illegal assets case of Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy, OMC illegal mining case involving former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and alleged irregularities in Emaar-APIIC land deal case.

CAT sets aside Dinesh Reddy’s appointment as DGP

In a major setback to the government, the Central Administrative Tribunal on Tuesday set aside the appointment of V Dinesh Reddy as Director General Of Police of Andhra Pradesh.

The CAT while setting aside the appointment directed the state government to start afresh the process to select a new DGP within three weeks. The Tribunal observed the government had flouted the established rules and regulations while appointing Dinesh Reddy as the DGP and totally ignored the seniority of candidates during selection process.

Senior IAS officer gets conditional bail in Emaar scam

The CBI special court on Monday granted conditional bail to Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) L V Subrahmanyam who is facing charges in the Emaar Township scam being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

While granting bail on surity of Rs 25,000, the special court asked him to cooperate with the probing agency in invcestigations and directed him not to leave the city without informing the CBI. The court posted the next hearing on the case to July 9.

Clerk embezzles Rs 85 lakhs in UP

A clerk of social welfare department allegedly withdrew Rs 85 lakhs from a nationalised bank by opening a forged account of the department in connivance with some officials of the bank here.

A case against the clerk, Anil Kumar, and bank officials of the United Bank of India was registered today, police said.

Kalam is people’s president: Mamata

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today described A P J Abdul Kalam as people’s president and said she was hurt that he has decided not to contest the presidential elections.

“I have seen your statement that you are not contesting.

This news has hurt all of us deeply,” she said in her latest Facebook post.

Describing Kalam as a ‘people’s president’, she said that he had bridged the gap between high office and common people.

Journalist questioned in girlfriend death case

Journalist Priyabhansu Ranjan, now in judicial custody in connection with his girlfriend Nirupama Pathak’s death case, was interrogated by the police in Koderma jail.

Koderma’s Tilaya police station in-charge Arun Kumar questioned Ranjan yesterday after Pathak’s mother Sudha petitioned the police to interrogate the accused, police sources said.

Ranjan had on June 5 surrendered before a Koderma court, which sent him to 14 days judicial remand, after evading arrest for nearly two years.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed Umesh Kumar, a senior IPS Officer, against whom non-bailable warrant issued by a local court after the officer failed to appear before it in connection with a forgery case registered against him, to surrender before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court immediately.

The CBI Special Court on Monday posted the hearing on petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate seeking permission to question YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy to Wednesday.

The special court after hearing the arguments of Enforcement Directorate posted the petition to Wednesday. The Enforcement Directorate has booked Jagan under several acts for violating Foreign Exchange rules and for involving in hawala transactions.

Security forces destroy Maoist training camp

In stepped up anti-Maoist operations in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, security forces today demolished a rebel training camp in the dense forest of Saranda.

Acting on a tip-off, jawans of CRPF, Special Operation Group (SOG) and district voluntary force (DVF) raided the Maoist camp in the forest near Langalkata in K Balang police station area, the police said.

Andhra court issues summons to TN Guv Rosaiah

A local court today issued summons to Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah in connection with a case related to denotification of a government land in favour of some private parties.

He was asked to appear before the anti-corruption bureau court here on August 2.

The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister was among the 13 accused in the case, related to denotification of 9.14 acres of prime land at Ameerpet in Hyderabad in 2010.

Obama offers condolences on death of Crown Prince

US President Barack Obama has condoled the death of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, praising him for his efforts in the fight against terrorism.

“It was with great regret that I learned of the passing of Crown Prince Nayif bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia,” Obama said in a statement.

“For decades, Crown Prince Nayif served as Minister of the Interior and dedicated himself to the security of Saudi Arabia as well as security throughout the region.

28 held for attacking British Consulate office in Mumbai

Twenty-eight people were arrested for allegedly vandalising the British Consulate office in suburban Bandra-Kurla Complex here, police said today.

The incident took place last night, in which around 40 people, who had gathered outside the British Consulate ransacked the office, they added.

According to police, the men were led by one Sajjad Pawne, who runs a local NGO called ‘Insaf’.

Centre to explore alternates to deal with pilots’ strike: Ajit Singh

Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Sunday said that the Centre was exploring the alternates to resolve the crisis caused to the strike by Air India pilots.

Talking to reporters after attending a book release function at Jubilee Halls, Ajit Singh said that flights have been resumed from 40 to 50 locations and efforts were on to restore the flights from all other destinations. He said the government was also planning to hire the trainee pilots.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy congratulated Indian ace badminton player Saina Nehwal for winning Indonesian open super series tournament.

In a message, the Chief Minister said that Saina Nehwal brought pride and laurels to the country and particularly to the State of Andhra Pradesh. He also congratulated her for winning Swiss and Thailand open tournaments this year.

VHR asks Congress to apologise for YSR’s mistakes

Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Sunday reiterated his demand that the Congress party tender an apology for the mistakes committed by former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Talking to reporters at his residence here, Hanumantha Rao said that the Congress party’s failure to admit the mistakes done by YSR has helped the YSR Congress party project him as a leader bigger than the ruling party. He said besides apologising for YSR’s mistakes, the State Government should return the land acquired from poor and farmers for various projects in the State.

Notification for Presidential Poll issued

The Election Commission today issued the notification for the presidential election scheduled for July 19.
The last date for filing nominations is June 30, while candidates can withdraw their nominations by July 4.
The UPA yesterday announced Pranab Mukherjee as their presidential nominee.

The BJP core group is meeting this evening to discuss their candidate for the top constitutional slot.
Votes will be counted, if needed, on July 22.

The term of office of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will come to an end on July 24.
