15 kgs Ganja seized, two arrested

About 15 kgs of Ganja was today seized by railway police from two people at Marioni railway station in Jorhat district.

Official sources said the two accused were arrested when they disembarked from the Delhi-Dibrugarh Brahmaputra Mail.

They had allegedly brought the contraband from Dimapur in Nagaland and were planning to sell it in Assam, the sources added.

Baby Mahi no more: Doctors

Manesar, June 24: Rescue team consisting of the army, fire brigade , police, revenue and other departments still working to save Mahi. Mahi, a four-year-old girl fell in the borewell at village Kho, Near Manesar, in Gurgaon.

Four-year-old Mahi who fell into a 70-feet deep borewell at Manesar in Haryana four days ago was finally pulled out by soldiers on Sunday afternoon. Mahi was immediately rushed to a hospital in a military ambulance. Locals as well as army officials declined to give details about the

girl’s health condition.

Dawood Ibrahim’s alleged aide Khalil Ahmed granted bail

Khalil Ahmed, an alleged aide of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has been granted bail by a Delhi court in a 2009 case of his alleged bid to extort money from a businessman here.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav granted bail to Khalil considering that substantial evidence against him has already been recorded. The court released him on bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000.

Jagan files memo on his remand

YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday filed a memo in CBI special court, Nampally over his remand.

In the memo, Jagan Mohan Reddy appealed to court to direct the jail authorities to produce him in the court on expiry of his remand on June 25 instead of conducting trial proceedings through video conference.

He appealed to court not to conduct proceedings though video conference and produce him directly in the court.

Court rejects special class prisoner status to Pattabhi

The ACB court on Saturday rejected the special class prisoner status petition of T Pattabhirama Rao, the judge who was suspended following bribery allegations in the cash-for-bail case and languished in Cherlapally jail.

The court rejected his petition following objections raised by ACB counsel.

Earlier, Pattabhirama Rao moved petition seeking special class prisoner status in the court on the basis of precarious health condition. However, the ACB counsel objected for this.

Owner of PVR malls Gupta arrested

The City Crime Station police on Saturday arrested Gowri Shankar Gupta, who duped the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority by invoking the name of realtor major DLF.

Gupta, owner of PVR Malls, absconding since DLF lodged a complaint with detective department of Central Crime Station for deliberately cheating DLF to the tune of Rs 280 crore by inducing DLF to invest in some of the real estate development projects taken up by the GSG Group of Companies.

Earlier, the police issued look out notice for Gupta as the Nampally court refused to grant anticipatory bail to him.

AP govt promotes 8 IPS officers to ADGP rank

Seeking to end months of acrimony between top IAS and IPS ranks in Andhra Pradesh, the state government on Friday promoted eight IPS officers of the 1987 batch to the rank of Additional Director General of Police from the rank of Inspector General of Police.

While four of the eight officers have been given new postings, the rest were retained in the same posts with an elevation.

Modi cannot be projected as PM candidate: Brajesh

UP CM demands more Haj quota

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today demanded that the Centre should increase quota of Haj pilgrims from the state.

“The Chief Minister has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a request that the quota of UP should be increased and maintained at the last year’s level when 32,532 pilgrims went for Haj,” an official spokesman said here.

Ammonium nitrate seized in Pakur

150 kg of ammonium nitrate, brought from West Bengal, was today seized at Chengadenga village in Pakur district, police said.

On a tip-off that the chemical, used for making explosives, sealed in 13 sacks were being transported by a tractor to Pakur from Rajgram in Birbhum district, police intercepted the vehicle and seized the material.

The driver and the helper escaped.

This was the tenth such seizure this year, police said.

Smugglers arrested, 30 kgs ganja seized

Three narcotic smugglers were arrested with more than 30 kgs of ganja near Sector 58 here, police said today.

The arrested men, who are resident of Bishanpura, have been identified as Kishore, Vijay and Khanjar Rishi.

A police team nabbed the trio last night and seized 13.40 kg of ganja from Kishore, 10.40 kg from Khanjar and 6.70 kg of the contraband from Vijay.

Pattabhirama Rao’s special status in prison petition posted to June 22

The ACB court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on petition of tainted CBI special court judge T Pattabhirama Rao, who was remanded to judicial custody till July 3 in connection with cash-for bail-case of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy, seeking `special category status’ in prison to June 22.

In his petition, Pattabhirama Rao’s counsel Ravindra Kumar said that his client was suffering from health related problems including neck and back pain since 2005 and suffered a heart attack also.

Replace DGP Dinesh Reddy : Shankar Rao

Former Congress minister P Shankar Rao on Wednesday demanded that the government immediately replace Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy as the Central Administrative Tribunal set aside his appointment.
Talking to media persons at Assembly premises, Shankar Rao stated that the government should follow the guidelines issued by the CAT in the appointment of the DGP.

He said that the government should fill the DGP post afresh based on the seniority of IPS officers.
