Ram Jeth Malani against Pranab’s candidature

Noted criminal advocate Ram Jeth Malani on Thursday stated that he would not support the candidature of UPA candidate Pranab mukherjee for the Presidential elections.

Talking to media persons at a private hotel, Ram Jethmalani accused Mukherjee of supporting the emergency during Indira Gandhi’s regime and responsible for the excesses and atrocities. When his nomination was announced, it reminded me of black days during the emergency period, he said.

Petrol price cut by Rs 2.46 a litre from the midnight

Petrol price was cut today by Rs 2.46 per litre, the second reduction this month.

Petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 67.78 a litre with effect from midnight tonight as against Rs 70.24 a litre, three oil marketing companies announced today.

State-owned oil firms, which had last month hiked petrol price by a massive Rs 7.54 a litre, had on June 3 cut rates by Rs 2.02 per litre.

Mohammed Pahelwan bail plea: SC issues notice

The Supreme of India today issued notices to state Government in connection with the bail petitions of Mohammed Bin Omer Yafai @ Mohammed Pahelwan in MIM Chandrayangutta MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi attack case.

The Apex court has asked the Government to file the reply within three weeks. Hearing upon the matter in Special Leave petition filed by the accused,the double bench of Supreme court comprising Justice H.L. Gokhale and Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai heard the arguements of senior defence counsel KTS Tulsi and issued the notice.

Gujarat police also seek custody of Abu Jundal

Police have sought the custody of suspected terrorist Syed Zabiuddin alias Abu Jundal, arrested on June 21 at IGI airport in Delhi, as he is wanted in two cases being probed by the state Anti-terrorism Squad.

“We were the first one to disclose his name. Our ATS is in touch with Delhi police to bring Jundal here, we have formally put in our request,” Director General of Police Chitranjan Singh said here.

YSRC accuses CBI JD of taking things ‘too personal’

YSR Congress on Wednesday came down heavily on CBI Joint Director VV Lakshminaryana for taking the case too personal and joining hands with the adversaries of Sakshi media house and Party President YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

“We don’t mind if he wants to join a political party or a media house opposing us, but being in government, he should do justice to his duty without any prejudice but his behaviour is otherwise ever since the investigation began,” party spokesperson Bajireddy Goverdhan told reporters here.

HC rejects Srilakshmi’s bail petition

In a setback to suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, who was arrested in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation’s illegal mining scam, the High Court on Wednesday refused to grant her bail.

After hearing the arguments and counter arguments, the court rejected the bail petition of Srilakshmi. The CBI counsel argued that she might tamper with evidence and influence the witnesses if she was granted bail. Stating that her presence was still necessary for the investigation agency, the counsel appealed to court not to grant bail to Srilakshmi.

CPI to boycott Presidential elections over Telangana issue

Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana on Wednesday said that the CPI would not extend support to anybody in the Presidential elections scheduled to be held in July.

Talking to media persons, Narayana stated that the party would not take part in the elections in protest against the delay in the formation of Telangana State. He accused the UPA’s Presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee of being responsible for delaying the statehood to the region.

Pranab to meet AP Legislative Assembly Cong members on July 1

UPA Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee will have a meeting with the Congress members of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly here on July one, party sources said.

He will meet with the Congress MLAs, MLCs and MPs at Jubilee Hall here. The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has sent a communication to all its legislators to attend the meeting without fail, the sources said.

Congress has a strength of 155 in the 294-member House. The city-based Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), which has a strength of seven MLAs, has announced support for Mukherjee’s candidature.

Habibullah bats for reforms in policing system

Lamenting that cops who played a partisan role in sensitive situations had gone unpunished, National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Wajahat Habibullah today stressed on the need for police reform which would ensure that the guilty are brought to book.

Habibullah, who was speaking at an interaction organised by the European Union in support of torture victims, said policemen accused of murder in Hashimpura killings even managed to get promotions under the present system.

Cyberabad Inspector,scribe booked for criminal conspiracy

Following complaint lodged by Vasireddy Chandrabala, the IBM employee and classmate of CBI Joint Director, the Cyberabad Crime Station police on Tuesday registered cases against K Yadagiri Reddy, senior correspondent of Sakshi and M Srinivasa Rao, Inspector of Nacharam Police station.

In her complaint, Vasireddy Chandrabala stated that the programmes telecast in Sakshi channel aimed to damage her dignity and reputation by making public the confidential information of call details of her mobile phone.

CBI raids at former bank manager’s residence

CBI today carried out searches at the residential premises of a former branch Manager of Bank of Maharashtra after registering a case of alleged corruption against him in disbursement of loans worth Rs 1.76 crore.

The agency registered a case under IPC section related to cheating, forgery among other charges on former Branch Manager, Bank of Maharashtra Leader Road branch Allahabad and five others, CBI spokesperson said here.

Fake maid service: Five arrested for duping victims

Five persons, including three women, were arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing maid servants who would disappear within hours of joining.

Lakhan Singh, Bablu, Anita, Sapna and Poonam were arrested on a complaint filed by one Dinesh Shabharwal of Shalimar Bagh that he was cheated of Rs 16,000 by the gang for arranging a maid.

He said the maid who joined duty disappeared within an hour and never returned.

CID identifies 65 accused in Laxmipet carnage

The State Police on Monday claimed that it has so far identified 65 accused involved in the carnage of Dalits of Laxmipet village of Vangara mandal in Srikakulam district on June 12.

According to Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) and spokesperson SA Huda, the Crime Investigation Department has been going into the entire gamut of this episode. “They have fairly gathered good information so far of the actual accused who participated in the carnage and those who are behind the scene as part of criminal conspiracy,” he said.

Andhra Cong leader talks of revamp post Prez election

The rumblings over Congress’s poor performance in the recent bye-elections in Andhra Pradesh continued on Sunday, with some leaders calling for corrective measures after the coming Presidential election.

“The party’s position in the state is not good. Efforts are on to improve the things. I am confident that Congress would retain power in 2014 Assembly elections. There may be a revamp in the organisation and the government after the Presidential election and the best thing would be done,” Congress MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao said in Vijayavada today.

ED records statements of 3 accused in OMC case

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Sunday recorded the statements of three accused, including suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, in connection with Obulapuram Mining Company(OMC) case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Armed with permission from a CBI court, a four-member ED team went to Chanchalguda jail here and questioned them before recording their statements under the PMLA, jail sources said.

Black money a problem, but no magic solutions: PM

As G20 countries worked on steps to tackle black money, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said it is a problem but no “magic solutions” were available to deal with menace.

“The problem is there but there are no magic solutions available. I think it is going to be a slow process,” Singh told reporters accompanying him on his return home after his eight-day foreign tour.

Body of a teenaged girl fished out of a canal

The body of a teenaged girl was today fished out of a canal in Outer Delhi this morning, police said.

The incident was reported from Bawana and the victim is aged around 15.

Investigators suspected that the girl was raped before she was murdered and dumped in the canal.

The body has been sent for postmotem.
