Pranab writes to Trinamool MPs seeking support

Reaching out to the Trinamool Congress which has till now remained silent on backing his candidature, UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee has written to Trinamool MPs appealing for their support.

Noting that he has his roots in Bengal, Mukherjee said that the President was above party politics and was an upholder of the Constitution.

CBI rejects supplementary chargesheet on Jagan

The CBI has received a setback on Thursday when the special court rejected the supplementary charge-sheet it filed against YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the illegal assets case.
The court, which has rejected the supplementary charge-sheet for the first charge-sheet filed on July 3, said that it was full of mistakes. Faulting the agency for mentioning only the names of companies and not their representatives, the court directed the CBI to file another charge-sheet correcting the mistakes.

No quid pro quo in cabinet decisions under YSR: Kiran Reddy

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has said “there is no quid pro quo” in the decisions taken by Cabinet headed the then Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, prompting YSR Congress to claim “moral victory” as its chief Jaganmohan Reddy battles graft charges.

The Chief Minister was seeking to defend some of his cabinet colleagues, who were also ministers under YSR and are now facing CBI probe in the Jagan’s disproportionate assests case as well as other related cases like illegal mining of iron ore by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy’s company.

Naidu Condemns attack on Jr NTR’s office

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has condemned the attack on the office of actor Jr. NTR in Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills on the midnight of Wednesday.

Party senior leader Yanamala Rama Krishnudu and several other party leaders have also condemned the attack, for which TDP is being blamed by some quarters.

Another AP Judge suspended in bail-for-cash scam

The Andhra Pradesh High Court today placed another judge under suspension in connection with the bail-for-cash scandal involving former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhana Reddy, an accused in illegal mining case.

The HC suspended Laxminarasimha Rao, City Small Causes Court Chief Judge, after Andhra Pradesh’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted searches at his residence.

He is the third judge to be suspended by the HC in connection with the scandal.

Andhra industries to face power cuts in peak hours

Major and medium industries in Andhra Pradesh will have a ‘power holiday’ for 12 days a month beginning today as the state power distribution companies are unable to meet the growing demand for electricity.

The industries will also have to face “evening peak restrictions” from 6.30-10.30 pm daily, according to Member Secretary State Energy Co-ordination Cell, A Chandrasekhar Reddy.

SC dismisses another petition against Pranab

The Supreme Court today dismissed as frivolous a petition challenging the nomination of UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee for the Presidential election on the ground that as Union Finance Minister he had failed to unearth massive black money in foreign tax havens.

“According to us it is a frivolous application. Don’t ever do it,” a bench of justices Aftab Alam and H L Gokhale observed, while dismissing a PIL filed by one Iniyan John.

New guidelines for officers visiting abroad

Fresh guidelines have been issued for bureaucrats visiting abroad asking them to furnish details about their sponsors and expenditure.

In an order, the Centre has said officials who seek the mandatory government clearance for going abroad have to submit a “write up” if they are going to attend a conference or seminar in foreign countries.

The expenditure details which are to be submitted include air fare and approximate costs of food and lodging.

Panel to streamline baby care centres

Minister for Women Development and Child Welfare Sunitha Laxma Reddy on Wednesday stated that the government has plans to bring child day care centres under the purview of Women Development and Child Welfare.

Talking to media persons, Sunitha Laxma Reddy said that the modalities for bringing child day care centres under the purview of Women Development and Child Welfare would be discussed with officials of concerned soon.
She said that the government has appointed a high level committee with 9 members to streamline modalities for establishing baby care centres in the state.

Telangana state would soon be a reality, says TRS chief

TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao today expressed confidence that formation of a separate Telangana state would soon be a reality.

“The day we achieve Telangana is not far. We have clear indications. The formation of separate Telangana is not far away,” he said.

Rao, however, did not elaborate on the “indications” over the formation of separate state.

Police constable arrested for harassing girl over phone

The Kukatpally police have arrested their own constable for allegedly harassing a girl over phone. Ashok Reddy was arrested after an intermediate student girl lodged a complaint against him for the harassment.

The sources said that the girl went to the Kukatpally police station for lodging a complaint against a youth who was harassing her. Police constable who was there at the police station secured the girl’s mobile number and started harassing daily over phone.

A psycho auto driver today attacked a married woman in the Bowenpally area this night. According to the sources Syed Ghouse a auto driver near the Bowenpally diary farm called 29-year-old Ishratunnissa a resident of Hashmathpet and had an altercation with her for marrying him.

The sources further said that Ghouse reportedly befriended her and developed one side love towards her and decided to marry. Today he called Ishratunnissa with an intention to pressurize her for the marriage and when she refused he allegedly attacked her with blades, which he already carried with him.

City Court cancels Zafar Pahelwan’s bail

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge at Nampally criminal courts has cancelled the bail granted to infamous pahelwan of old city Hamza Bin Omer aka Zafar Pahelwan in a murder case of rowdy sheeter that took place in a Gym.
The judge directed the pahelwan to surrender him to the Chanchalguda jail authorities forewith. But citing health reasons Zafar pahelwan has sought two days time to surrender.

45 lakh cr of black money stashed abroad says FICCI

India could become a fiscal surplus nation if the government manages to bring back at least one-tenth of the estimated Rs 45 lakh crore black money stashed abroad, industry body Ficci said today.

Indian economy, currently grappling with slowdown, is likely to post a fiscal deficit of Rs 5.13 lakh crore or 5.1 per cent of the GDP in the current financial year.

Being wealthy does not disentitle me to bail: Jagan

YSR Congress Party leader and Kadappa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday moved the Supreme Court for bail against the state high court order, which denied him the relief in the disproportionate assets case against him.

Asserting that the CBI did not have a shred of evidence against him, Reddy argued that merely being wealthy or in public life does not deprive him of his right to get bail.

Sunil Joshi murder case: SC restrains NIA to quiz Pragya Singh

The Supreme Court today restrained the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from interrogating Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in a 2007 murder case of former RSS worker Sunil Joshi.

A bench of justices H L Dattu and C K Prasad stayed the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s May 17 order by which the NIA was granted conditional permission to quiz Thakur in presence of her counsel in Bhopal jail where she is presently lodged.

HCI extends advance payment date for Haj pilgrims till July 16

The Haj Committee of India (HCI) has accorded an opportunity to those provisionally selected Haj pilgrims and those selected under surrendered quota, who have not remitted the advance amount of Rs 51,000 in the stipulated time to enable them to undergo Haj Journey by making payment of this amount till July 16.

Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia today asserted that he was not in the race for the post of Finance minister.

PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana has said that the government, which has extended legal aid to five ministers, should also extend the same to the jailed former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana.

Missing sisters traced in Tirupati

Two minor girls which went missing after they left their house on July 3 were traced at Tirupati. A team of Saidabad police have shifted them to Hyderabad yesterday late night. The girls – Akhila, 10, and her sister Anjali, 6, from Singareni colony – were staying with uncle M Srinu, an auto driver.

Tthe sisters left the house mysteriously on Tuesday at around 6 pm. When they did not return till Wednesday afternoon, their uncle lodged a complaint with the Saidabad police. A missing case was booked and the police taken up investigation.

The pro-Telangana outfits have decided to re-launch from August 1 an agitation to step up the demand for creation of the separate state.

The separatist outfits that met here today decided to organise a ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ programme in a big way on September 30 after taking up a series of protest programmes from August 1.

The proponents of the separate state that met under the aegis of a Joint Action Committee declared that they were totally against the creation of “Rayala Telangana” state by merging two districts of Rayalaseema with the ten districts of Telangana.
