Mumbai violence seems pre-planned: Police

Police today arrested 23 people on charge of murder in the violence in Mumbai yesterday in which two persons were killed and 55 people, including 46 policemen, were injured, which appeared to be a “pre-planned” act.

Besides the 23 people, who were booked under section 302 of IPC, the organisers, Raza Academy and Madina Tul Ilm Foundation, also faced similar charges, police said.

Abu Jundal confesses before magistrate

Key 26/11 attack handler Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal today made a confessional statement before a magistrate here in which he is understood to have given a deep insight into Pakistan-based Lashker-e- Taiba terror group’s role in the 2008 Mumbai strikes.

30-year-old Jundal, who has been confronted with Ajmal Kasab — the lone surviving Lashker terrorist in the Mumbai terror attacks, was produced before a metropolitan magistrate in his chamber, official sources said.

CBI probe demanded into Assam riots

Assam Relief Co-Ordination Committee has demanded that the Union government order a CBI inquiry into Assam riots. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Committee organizer Mohd Shahnawaz Khan demanded that the Centre arrest culprits behind the riots and dispense justice to the riot victims.

He also urged the Centre to release adequate funds for rehabilitation and set up more medical camps to provide medical assistance to the victims.

Two women die in road accident

Two women were killed when the car in which they were traveling has hit a lorry from behind on the outer ring road at Pedda Amberpet under Hayatnagar mandal of Ranga Reddy district today. Three more were injured.
According to police, they were coming back to Hyderabad after attending a birthday celebration at Mount Opera, when their car lost control and hit the lorry.

The deceased were identified as Bindu and Sravani while the injured were identified as Pratibha, Srinivas and Ramesh. All these youngsters were students of an engineering college of Hyderabad, said sources.

Three member fake currency racket busted in city

The Amberpet police has arrested a three-member gang, which was making fake currency notes.
East Zone Additional DCP has said that they seized Rs 90,000 worth fake currency notes, a printer and a computer from the gangsters. He said that one Srinivas Reddy from Karimnagar, Rajashekar from Adilabad and Venkat Reddy from Mahbubnagar have formed into a gang, preparing fake currency notes and distributing them in the market.

The crime came to light when the police arrested the accused while they were roaming in Amberpet area in suspicious manner.

Jagga Reddy accuses jaipal of trying to oust Kiran Kumar

Government Whip in the Assembly and Sangareddy MLA Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy aka Jagga Reddy has alleged that Union Petroleum Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Telangana senior Congress leader Dr K Keshav Rao have been hatching a conspiracy along with TRS Chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao to dethrone N. Kiran Kumar Reddy from the chief minister post.

Speaking to the media at the CLP Office here on Sunday, Jagga Reddy said that Jaipal Reddy was eyeing the chief minister’s post. Kiran Kumar Reddy was working for 18 hours a day for welfare of the people, he added.

AP plans to set up high-end Electronic Park in Hyderabad

The Andhra Pradesh Government on Sunday proposed to set up a high-end Research and Development Park in Electronic Manufacturing in Hyderabad in line with Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan.

The proposal was made by Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah during his interaction with Union IT and HRD Minister Kapil Sibbal and Dr Kumar Mangalam Birla at the sidelines of the first convocation of BITS Pilani in the city. Ponnala suggested that India was in dire need of high end electronic R&D Park such as ITRI.

Power shutdown in parts of city on Monday

There will be power shut down in the areas under Shastripuram and Raghavendra feeders on Monday from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm to facilitate cutting of tree branches which are causing disturbance in the power supply.

According to APCPDCL Assistant Engineering (Katedhan Section) OS Khatare, the areas where there will be power shut down are Shastripuram, King’s Colony, Noor Colony, Rizwan Colony, Shama Colony, Saifi Colony, Akber Colony and B K Puram. The CPDCL has expressed regret over the inconvenience and sought cooperation from the locals.

TRS asks State to hold local body polls

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Sunday demanded that the State Government hasten the process to conduct elections for the local bodies in the State.

Talking to reporters here, TRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao said that the State has been Central funds worth several hundred crores due to the absence of elected local bodies in the State. He said despite knowing the fact that the Central funds could not be received unless elections are held, the State Government has been avoiding the elections citing one reason or the other.

VHR warns against diluting Fee Reimbursement scheme

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Sunday demanded that the State Government continue the Fee Reimbursement scheme without any modifications.

Talking to reporters here, Hanumantha Rao said that it would be wrong on the part of the State Government to say that it would only reimburse only Rs 31,000. Further, the advise being given to the students to take the remaining fee amount as loan from the banks was not practical as the banks does not give loans to the poor students, he said.

Police resorted to firing as last option: Chavan

Mumbai Police exercised maximum restraint in quelling today’s violence and resorted to firing only as the last option, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said tonight.

Two persons were killed and 45 policemen injured in the violence that erupted after a rally organised by city-based Raza Academy this afternoon at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai turned unruly, with the mob damaging buses, hurling stones and setting vehicles on fire.

TRS senior leader T Harish Rao has said that the people of the Telangana region got separated from the Seemandhra people mentally.

Speaking at Telangana Lab Technicians Association launching meeting at Telangana Bhavan here on Saturday, Harish Rao said that the Telugu people would remain united only after division of the State. CM agreed to order probe into Banjara Hills temple land isuse:Nagender

Labour Minister Danam Nagender has said that the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy assured him to order a comprehensive inquiry into the dispute of Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple land at Banjara Hills.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Danam said that he urged the Chief Minister to cancel the land allotted to Hare Krishna Movement and the latter responded favourably. He said that he was regretting for going to the temple. “I went there as a local MLA on the request of local people”, he said. He also said that he has no differences with the Chief Minister.

Restrictions on media at CMs camp office

Police, who could not prevent the ABVP activists from gate crashing into the Chief Minister’s camp office on Friday, have imposed restrictions on the media that reported the failure of the security mechanism.

Police on Saturday directed the media, which generally waits at the gate of the camp office to have an eye on those who meet the Chief Minister and interview the visitors was now asked to wait at the Manjeera guest house, next to the camp office where they would have no view of what was happening.

Danam indulging in rowdyism:Kishan Reddy

BJP state president Kishan Reddy has alleged that labour minister Danam Nagender was acting like a rowdy and raiding temples.

Talking to the media here on Friday, he said the Governor should take action against the minister for raiding a temple and locking up its gates. He said it was strange that Danam was stating that he had locked the temple to save Congress workers. Questioning how a minister could indulge in rowdyism, he said Danam who said anti-social activities were occurring in the temple should say what they were.
