Naidu’s son predicts TDP victory in 2014 elections

Nara Lokesh, son of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday hoped that the TDP would return to power in 2014 elections.

Talking to reporters in Naravaripalem of Chittoor district, Lokesh said that only TDP could defeat the Congress party in the elections. Referring to Praja Rajyam Party’s merger with the Congress party, he said other opposition parties like the YSR Congress party in the State lacked public support and therefore, would merge with the Congress party. He said that only TDP had the strength to counter the Congress party at all fronts.

Two Maoists among seven held

Two Maoists among seven people were arrested here Moday for allegedly firing on a police official in Andhra Pradesh’s Khammam district, police said.

The Maoists are identified as M Chukka and Makkammudda, they said.

The duo was part of a 150-member Naxal group from Chhattisgarh which fired on a police official belonging to Mothugudem in May.

Power permit must for Ganesh pandals:CPDCL

The Central Distribution Company Limited (CPDCL) has asked organisers of Ganesh pandals to take temporary power supply connections (low tension) by paying the necessary charges.

According to a release issued here on Monday, the CPDCL authorities said that organisers have to pay Rs 500 for power load of 250 watt.

From 250 watt upto 500 watt, the amount would be Rs 1,000 for the10-day Ganesh festivities. For usage of above 500 watt, the charges would be Rs 1,500 and Rs 750 would be charged for every additional 500 watt of power usage.

T would have been formed had TDP gave consent letter:Botsa

APCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana has said that separate Telangana State would have been carved out already had the Telugu Desam party gave a letter to the Centre in favor of Telangana State.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, Botcha clarified as the Congress was the ruling party it cannot give any letter to that effect. Reiterating that the Congress would solve the problem if TDP sends a letter to the Centre, Botcha said the main Opposition party was contemplating to give such a letter to the Centre on for political gain.

Assembly Committee rebukes Wakf Board for negligent attitude

The Assembly Committee on Minorities Welfare on Tuesday rebuked the State Wakf Board for not presenting the files related to different Wakf properties in the State.

Talking to reporters after the Committee’s meeting in the State Legislative Assembly premises, Committee Chairman Mastan Vali said that the Wakf Board officials have been warned of serious action if they continue to show negligent attitude towards the protection of Wakf properties. He said that Board officials did not present the relevant files before the committee in a proper manner.

VHR accuses KVP of misleading Congress HC

Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday accused former Advisor to Government KVP Ramchander Rao of misleading the Congress High Command.

Talking to reporters at his residence at Amberpet, Hanumantha Rao said that KVP was deliberately misleading the Congress High Command over several issues. Describing KVP’s book on former Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s padayatra as fake, he said YSR never had the habit of writing the diary. “Who benefitted from the YSR’s diary release?” he asked KVP.

Nagam slams Shinde for linking Telangana with naxals

Telangana Nagara Samithi president and Nagarkurnool MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Tuesday took serious note on the comments of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde that naxalism would grow manifold with the formation of smaller states.

Talking to reporters at media point in the State Secretariat, Nagam Janardhan Reddy termed the remarks of Sushil Kumar Shinde as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘not suitable’ to his stature and position. He alleged that the Union Minister made these comments at the behest of business community from the Seemandhra region to protect their interests.

Harish wants Govt. to declare Health Emergency in state

Shinde hints at delay in decision on Telangana

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Monday stated that the Centre would take a decision on the Telangana statehood demand after taking all issues into consideration.

Talking to media persons, the Union Home Minister made it clear that there would be no all-party meeting seeking opinion of leaders on the issue at this stage and the government would take decision after taking pros and cons into consideration. However, he admitted that the government was holding consultations with all stakeholders and parties to take a decision on the issue soon.

HC admits petition seeking probe into Satya Sai Trust Board affairs u

A public interest petition has been filed in the High Court seeking probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged irregularities committed by some members of Sri Satya Sai Baba Central Trust and into the demise of Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba at Puttaparthi in April last year.

Admitting the petition of K Ramesh, a Satya Sai Baba devotee and businessman for trial, the court asked him whether the Satya Sai Trust comes under the purview of Endowment Department and posted the petition for next hearing on 17.

Andhra CM, Guv hail country’s 100th space mission

Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today hailed the successful launch of PSLV C-21 rocket, the 100th indigenous space mission of the country.

In a message, the Governor congratulated the ISRO space scientists and engineers on their successful launch and noted that this was the 100th space vehicle lunched by the organisation, after the launch of India’s first indigenous satellite ‘Aryabhatta’ in 1975.

‘Illiteracy leading to high birth rate among Muslims’

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today dismissed the suggestion that illegal migration from Bangladesh has led to high growth of Muslim population in the state but blamed illiteracy for the high birth rate among the community.

He said growth of Muslim population in Assam was higher than Hindus as the community give birth more children due to poor rate of literacy among themselves.

Principal commits suicide on suicide prevention day

While the City Psychiatrists, in collaboration with the Care Hospital organized a rally to mark the occasion of Suicide Eradication Day on Sunday on one side of the Hussain Sagar lake, the police launched a drive to discover body of Chikkadpally Arora College principal Dr Pathuri Ravi, who committed suicide by jumping into Hussain Sagar.

It is learnt that Ravi was found missing since Friday. On receipt of the information that Ravi committed suicide, the police rushed to Hussain Sagar and successfully launched a hunt for the body.
