Change of CM not linked to Telangana issue: Gutta

Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy on Sunday stated that the change in Chief Minister of State should not be linked with the Telangana statehood issue.

Talking to media persons here, Sukhender Reddy said that Telangana state issue should be treated separately and it should not be linked with the change in the Chief Minister of State. “The change in Chief Minister has nothing to do with the Telangana issue,” he said. “Achieving separate state is the utmost goal of leaders of this region,” he pointed out.

Announce Telangana decision by Sept 30, demands TRS

TRS Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao on Sunday demanded the Centre announce its decision on separate Telangana statehood demand by September 30.

Talking to media persons after expressing solidarity with Deeksha taken up by Joint Action committee members at Old Bus stand in Siddipet, Harish Rao said that the Centre has to honour its promise given to people of region by September 30 and take steps for fulfilling the dream of region people. He warned the Centre of serious consequences if it fails to respect the sentiments and aspirations of people.

Ajmer Dargah’s religious head asks PM to lodge protest with US

The Ajmer Dargah’s religious head today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to lodge a strong protest with the United States in connection with a movie deemed offensive to Islam.

In a statement here, Syed Zainual Abedin Ali Khan, Dewan of the Dargah of revered Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti, appealed to community members to maintain peace and harmony in line with Islamic values and traditions.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today said the coal issue will soon fade away from public memory as happened in case of Bofors.

Anti-Islamic filmmaker questioned by LA police

A California filmmaker linked to a provocative anti-Islam movie that has sparked widespread violence across the Muslim nations was taken to a Los Angeles police station for questioning.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was interviewed at the Los Cerritos station near his home, the local Sheriff’s Deputy told the NBC news.

“He went to the Cerritos station to talk with probation officers. He’s not under any arrest,” Deputy Sherif Don Walker said.

Explosives seized in Hyderabad, one held

Explosive materials have been seized from a man in the plush Banjara Hills locality of the city, police said here today.

The sleuths of North Zone yesterday arrested B Krishna, who was carrying the materials illegally for sale on his motorbike, police said.

As many as 490 gelatin sticks and 200 detonators were seized.

Police sources said the investigators were now looking for a woman called V Balamani, allegedly involved in the sale.

Girl dies after swallowing tablet at Secunderabad school

A ten-year-old girl student of a local school in Secunderabad died today after she allegedly swallowed a pill distributed by school authorities, police said.

The deceased, identified as Khushboo, was a fifth grader at the Marwari Hindi Pathasala, they said.

According to school authorities, the girl complained of some uneasiness after swallowing the tablet which might have got stuck in her throat. Khushboo was then rushed to a private hospital where she was declared dead.

CM promises to respect Telangana sentiments

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday said that he would respect the sentiments and aspirations of people of Telangana region.

Interacting with students and weavers at Gadwal as part of Indiramma Baata in the district on second day, the Chief Minister said that the Centre would take a decision on the Telangana statehood demand soon. Stating that the statehood agitation was going on since 50 years, Kiran Kumar said that he would respect the statehood demand and wish for fulfillment of their dream.

Indra Karan threatens to quit Congress over ‘T’ issue

Former Congress MP Indra Karan Reddy on Saturday announced that he would resign from the Congress party’s primary membership if it fails to announce a favourable decision on the Telangana statehood demand by September 30.

Talking to media persons here, Indra Karan Reddy warned that the party would be completely wiped out from the region if the Congress High Command drags the bifurcation of State issue in the name of consultations with stakeholders. Centre not ready to make T-statement now:Yashki

Nizamabad Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud has said that his party’s image will hit rock bottom if the CBI waters down the Jagan’s illegal assets case at a key time.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, Yashki said the transfer of CBI lawyers was giving rise to doubts about watering down of Jagan’s case at a crucial time. He said that no discussions were taking place in Delhi on Telangana issue as rumored.

Yashki said that he spoke to the Delhi leaders and came to know that the Centre will not make any statement at this juncture on the Telangana issue.

French magazine publishes topless pictures of Kate

A French magazine today published topless pictures of the latest entrant to the British royal family, Kate Middleton, raising hackles in Buckingham Palace which threatened legal action.

The celebrity magazine ‘Closer’ printed grainy pictures of 30-year-old Kate, now Duchess of Cambridge, topless at the terrace of a French chateau which were taken during the Royal couple’s holiday last week in France, The Sun reported.

RTC all set to hike bus fares

Following increase in the diesel prices, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is all set to increase the bus fares.

In an informal chat with the media persons at Bus Bhavan here on Friday, RTC Managing Director AK Khan said that the hike in diesel prices by Rs 5 per litre would put an additional burden on the RTC by Rs 350 crore. Presently, the RTC is spending Rs 2,500 crore per annum on diesel. However, the present hike would increase the spending on the diesel by nearly 15 per cent including taxes and other levies.

Shankar Rao demands additional security in view of threat calls

Former Minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Friday demanded that the State Government provide security to him as he was receiving threatening calls from unknown persons.

Talking to media persons in the Assembly premises, Dr Shankar Rao said he wrote letters to Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy and City Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma seeking protection to his life in the wake of threatening calls. Stating that his security has been reduced, he asked the government to provide additional security to him besides the existing security personnel.

Jagan facing charges in three cases, CBI tells SC

The CBI, opposing bail plea of jailed YSR Congress Party leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, told the Supreme Court on Friday that the chargesheets filed against him were related to three different cases which are still being investigated.

The Central Bureau of Investigation told this to the apex court bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai during the hearing on the bail plea of Jaganmohan Reddy, or Jagan as the Lok Sabha member from Kadapa constituency is popularly called. The hearing was deferred till later in the month.

Moulana Naseer’s two sons acquitted in sedition case

A local court in Indore, Madhya Pradesh today acquitted two sons of Muslim cleric Moulana Mohammed Naseeruddin in a case of criminal conspiracy and sedition.

Mohammed Baleeghuddin Jaber and Mohammed Muqeemuddin Yasir were acquitted this afternoon by the District and Sessions court. In the year 2008 both were arrested on the alleged charges of helping the SIMI’s national president Safdarhussain Nagori during his visit to Hyderabad.

The police alleged that the two sons of Moulana Naseeruddin have helped Nagori by handing over him a CD and hard disk containing seditious content.

Police Transport SP held hostage by suspended head-constable

A Superintendent of Police of Police Transport Organisation (PTO) was today allegedly held captive by a suspended head-constable in Saifabad area here.

The head-constable, identified as Giriprasad Sarma, took the senior officer Lakshminarayana hostage this evening, and threatened to set afire the room where the SP is locked in if attempt was made to free him, police said.
Senior police officers have rushed to the spot.

Sarma, who accuses the SP and other senior police officials of PTO of harassing him and suspending him, has sought disciplinary action against Lakshminarayana.

Haj flights to begin from Oct 6

Elaborate arrangements are being made for the departure of pilgrims for Haj 2012 from the Haj House at Nampally.

Nearly 8,500 pilgrims, including 7,350 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh will leave for Jeddah through 26 direct flights from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad between October 6 and October 19. All the pilgrims will first arrive at the Haj House two days prior to their scheduled flights and the legal formalities of immigration, customs, etc., will be done at the Haj Camp itself.

The pilgrims will return from Holy Madina from November 17 to November 30.
