State announces new sand mining policy

Minister for Mines and Geology Galla Aruna Kumari stated that the State Government has fixed Rs 325 as the price per cubic metre of sand under the new policy.

Announcing the new sand mining policy at the State Secretariat on Sunday, Aruna Kumari said that the government has taken a decision to supply sand at free of cost for houses to be constructed under the Indiramma Scheme. Stating that the government has imposed an intra-State ban on transport of sand to prevent its scarcity, she said that usage of porcelains has also been banned at river basins to check environmental damage.

Rollback power surcharge, demands YSRCP

The YSR Congress Party has demanded immediate rollback of power surcharge, besides stalling the hike in RTC bus fare.

“The decision of the State to collect surcharge on power bills with retrospective effect to net Rs 9,670 crores and the proposal to hike RTC fare to amass Rs 5,600 crores is totally anti-people and will further burden the common man. We demand the government to immediately reverse these decisions,” party spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao told reporters here on Sunday.

CS to hold meeting with Ganesh festival organisers on Sept 25

GHMC official manhandles contractor, Commissioner orders probe

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner MT Krishna Babu gave assurance assured to enquire into the incident of alleged manhandling of a contractor by the GHMC Executive Engineer.

The Commissioner gave the assurance to the contractors after holding a meeting with the representatives of Contractors Association in his chambers in GHMC Headquarters at Tank Bund here on Sunday. The meeting was called in view of the call strike given by the contractors after one of the contractors Mohan Singh was allegedly manhandled by the Executive Engineer.

Guv Narasimhan had a busy day today

Sabitha denies theft of seized vehicles’ parts from Goshamahal Ground

Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy denied the reports that parts of vehicles seized by the traffic police and kept at Goshamahal Police Grounds were being removed and sold away illegally.

In her reply to a question raised by Khairtabad MLA P Vishnuvardhan Reddy in the State Legislative Assembly during Question on Friday, the Home Minister denied that the traffic police have seized large number of vehicles and dumped them at Goshamahal Police Ground. Vehicles seized by the Traffic Police are released to the owners of vehicles on verification of relevant documents, she said.

Cong MLCs asks Sonia to resolve Telangana issue by Sept 30

Taking a cue from ministers and ruling Congress MLAs, the Telangana MLCs from the region on Friday wrote a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi appealing her to resolve the Telangana statehood demand favourably.

The MLCs appealed to Sonia Gandhi to announce her decision before the Telangana March scheduled to held on September 30. Chief Whip ridicules opposition’s adjournment motions

No plans to rehabilitate people in coastal areas: Raghuveera Reddy

Revenue Minister Dr N Raghuveera Reddy on Thursday stated that there was no proposal with the State Government to provide rehabilitation to the people of coastal areas. However, he said two Saline Embankments in Krishna districts have been proposed to be taken up under National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project (NCRMP).

Riot victims’ rehabilitation national duty: SC

The Supreme Court Wednesday said that the rehabilitation of riot victims was a national responsibility and could not just be construed within legal and moral parameters. Rehabilitating the riot victims was a “national liability and you have to be responsible not just legally or morally but in all dimensions of the word”, said an apex court bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Ranjana Prajash Desai.

Yechury rebuts Mamata’s contention

CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury tonight dubbed as “totally false” Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s reported contention that parliamentary Standing Committee on civil aviation headed by him had recommended 51 percent FDI in civil aviation sector.

“The allegation is totally false”, he said.

Yechury said when he was the chairman of the Standing committee on civil aviation and transport, this issue never came up before it and this sort of decision is taken by the executive.

CBI makes first arrests in Assam violence cases

CBI on Wednesday made the first arrests in Assam violence cases by taking into custody five youths in connection with alleged lynching of four Bodo youths in Kokrajhar area in July.

These five persons belonging to non-Bodo community were called for questioning yesterday and were taken into custody after they allegedly admitted their involvement in the crime, CBI sources said.

Making a significant head way in the case, the agency has also recovered two mobile phones which belonged to the lynched youths which helped them in identifying the accused persons, they said.

Prohibitory orders continue in Tandur town

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for peaceful celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, after prohibitory orders continued for the second day in a row in Tandur town of the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district Wednesday, police said.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code which were clamped yesterday after members of two communities clashed and indulged in arson over alleged vandalisation of a Ganesh idol in the town, will continue until further orders, a senior police officer monitoring the law and order situation said.
